  1. He'll still end up with 25+
  2. difinitely? Or are we his "second team or other team of choice" because he's lived here so long? The reason I ask is I'm sure I've seen him on tv saying spurs was his team.
  3. I think neither are particularly great at kicking and distribution but for different reasons. Davis would have learnt hid trade as a kid snd in his early pro days without the need to kick/control back passes. And very few schools/kids teams play from the back! Goalkeepers normally end up there cos they aren't the greatest kickers/passers of the football but can catch! Therefore David had had to learn this skill relatively late on. His level of performance in different aspects is quite wide, hence he's never played for England in a time when there hasn't been a great one since Shilton. Bart on the other hand is effectively still learning. Although goalkeepers ate starting to get chances higher up the league at younger ages now it seems, because of his injury mainly and KDs form in a team that played the hoof ball mostly he hasn't had a chance to reach potential yet. I think he should get his chance soon but as our (former GK) manager sees him in training every day he's better placed than any of us to judge. I wouldn't be surprised to see another keeper in Jan or the summer.
  4. I always thought he was a Spurs fan. Probably with Saints fan mates for the day out......
  5. Maybe after Reed amd Hunter arrived they suggested a few things. Maybe as the Echo suggests, they have merely done a bit more research at other Academy/training grounds and decided to implement more and better improvements. God forbid this is actually a good thing.....although it appears to have been delayed Cortese said that when they announced it first time round that they had actually brought it forward in the overall plan. I would have thought that the important thing is to get the best project they can in time for the Prem.... No money.....my Rse!!!!
  6. Not an obvious choice, not a football choice but at least someone who is known nationwide if not even internationally. Not the nicest bloke I've ever met and both times he was up himself and being a bit if a ****! mind you both times he was out drinking as was I! He was acting like berty big bollovks flashing the cash and I suppose if I hadn't known who he was it wouldn't have mattered!! Still, fair play to him for supporting the foundation and anything anyone ever does for others free of charge is great by me!!
  7. If we only sign one player in Jan it needs to be a striker who's basically been there done that etc. LeFondre, okish, Austin, okish. A REAL statement of intent required by NC and the Leibherr Family that they/Saints mean business and will spend. Build the the team and the fans will come. Their cash is the fuel to success over the next few months and beyond. Putting a fiver in the tank once in a while just to get to work and back means st some point in the very near future you'll probably breakdown!!
  8. Good ridance I say! Flattered to deceive in virtually every game, overall preety ineffective when it came down to the nitty gritty. Did like his ability on the ball and his sense of urgency but failed miserably in getting the result, i.e. the killer pass or goal. How often did he sky it over the bar from only a few yards out?!!! I hope he does well but I like that NA has made a decision on him and is doing something about it. Strong positive management.
  9. What's that phrase? Oh yeah, patience is a virtue. If you really do only care about the here and now and not the future you are indicative of what's wrong with this world and "more importantly" (!!) football.
  10. wow! I never thought I'd hear someone say they would prefer Wilde and Lowe back over this regime!! Time will prove me right but the next few years will give all (and I use that word reservedly!!) far me enjoyment than we ever did or ever could had, particularly in terms of sustained success, under those two formerly mentionted cretins. Your timescale is slightly wrong I think over the money, Lowe would never have sanctioned and never did I believe spending £7 mill in one season (not even when we signed the great and unbelievably over-priced record signing Rory "but I've got a long throw" Delap), it was Wilde and I think Trant(?) who gambled the £7mill on Burleys (clear-headed) judgement!!! And spending as we have relatively big for a League 1 team and albeit without so far result doesn't mean by any sretch of the imagination that come the end of Jan and end of May next year we won't have a) spent a fee more hundreds of thousands if not a million or two on players and b) secured promotion. I was disappointed that Pardew didn't make what I (and others on here) thought were glaringly obvious signings in the summer. CM, striker and a pacey option. To some degree and within the loan market NA has looked at doing it. It's also a little difficult to sign alot of players for the kind of money you seem to be wanting/needing us to sign when in League 1. It will be easier to convince some Championship players to move in Jan when it is clearer on how likely we are to promotion and also the position of the players current employers. I'm sure you won't be too disappointed!!!!
  11. You're a funny man trousers!!
  12. Why not all of them and start again.... After all most on here think were **** cos we're a couple or four points off top two with only 30 games to go.
  13. Nothing to do with his decision to list the club but the fact he chose Lowe and Cowan. There's no defence for that!
  14. the blame is attached to Askham....he brought the whole sorry reverse takeover to fruition. But this thread is ridiculously depressing. We can't be higher than the so called local opposition for at least a season so get over it and support the team, that's what "supporters" do.
  15. I have to disagree, what we need is a scout regardless of status that knows the Championship AND the Premier League. A load of decent League Oners will not work in the Prem. We need people in our club who can attract the right players to a) get us promoted come May 2011; b) help us compete for top 6 come May 2012; and c) develop and motivate the players we have. Not sure where Gordon Watson fits in there.....as much as I love what he did for Saints.
  16. You probably thought we wouldn't fill St Marys when we were building that. If you actually provided some real proof your opinion may have some weight but you don't. You simply make statements.
  17. If only Steve Moran hadn't got injured.....
  18. The point you so clearly miss is that the Premier League is top quality football (generally!). League One isn't yet we still get on average more fans than some do in the Prem. Let's say we had a 48000 capacity then the away support could be as much as 4,800, that would leave 43,200 home seats. In St Marys the away support is limited to 3,200 leaving around 29,400 home fans. Therefore the required lift in home fans to sell-out every game is just under 14,000. When we moved from the Dell the increase in home fans was about 15-16,000. At Wembley we took "at least" 50,000 and could have sold thousands more. I am sure that even in a dissappounting season in the Prem we would still sell 36-38,000. In a good season 46-48,000. On average 40-42,000 is definitely the right figure even if you think otherwise.
  19. The stadium "debate" proves the old addage that you can't please all the people all of the time! Ideally I would welcome a 45-48,000 capacity "state-of-the-art" arena in or very close to the main city centre. For me most games are more of a day out with food and drinks before and/or after the game. Having the ground situated in an "out of town" location (like the Rose Bowl-although that's great) would not enhance my Saturday at footy! Expanding St Marys keeps all of the benefits of being in the centre but logistically could be a nightmare unless the whole waterside area, train station, etc is dramatically improved. Because of the complexity of such infrastructure could prove more costly than makes sense so a new arena would possibly provide more value for money as well as allow for a totally fresh design, and hopefully an iconic one. This may be a little left field but maybe a possible venue for a new arena could be at the sports centre situated on the athletics track area. Of course, some other parts would be lost but I wouldn't have thought it would be major. In return, St Marys could be turned into an athletics venue. As well as providing the city with a new venue for athletic training it could easily attract major events. It could also have speedway and/or dog racing filling the gap between Poole and Brighton/eastbourne for both sports. Although not in the centre of the city if the sports centre did host a new arena travel in and out would be far more easy by car with park and rides easily set up on the common and and other areas. Walking from central station wouldn't be too bad and would help the taxi business up and down hill lane!! Those of us who like a few drinks before and/or after may find it less appealing than currently but there are plenty of pubs around (The Winston could be a footy pub again!). I think there are many reasons to move, to expand, to stick, but for the good of Saints in the long term I believe a new arena is the best one.
  20. Delusion is your perception of their opinion. In saying that it could be said that you ate delusional. Put yourself in the owners shoes for a minute. Your are incredibly wealthy with for arguments sake £3 billion. Interest alone is upwards of 150million a year. Now you have a football club that has a "nice" fairly new stadium that is restricted to 32,000. You look back to when it was in the Prem before and see that it virtually sold out every game for 5 years DESPITE the fact that in relative terms hardly any money was invested in the team. As a business person you want to maximise your potential profits. Are you set up to do that now? No. You are limited to 32000 regular customers plus a bit of hospitality. The cost of expanding St Marys to 50000 at say £2000 per seat (£1000 has been muted before) then that will cost £36 million. Even assuming an average crowd of 40000 and an average ticket price of just £25 that equates to £1 million just from tickets each game. Over a season ticket sales would be upwards of £19 million in the prem. In just TWO seasons the expansion cost is covered. Over that time there would also be income fro TV/Sky around £50-60 million a season not forgetting sponsorship and retail sales and hospitality. You then factor in that over two years the interest the owner gets may well equate to £300,000,000. If I was in the owners shoes I would look at building from scratch, future proofing the stadium and the club. Even spending £250,000,000 which is onviuosly huge would not put a debt on the club as the figures add up. So in their shies what would you look to do
  21. and you base the size of our fanbase on what? The capacity? If the ground only holds 32,600 (or whatever it is) the maximum attendance is 32,600. Unless you build it, they cannot come.... Your "fanbase" figure is based on the size of the stadium. Remind me how many went to Wembley? 50,55000? In the Premier league once re-established I see no reason why 40k is not regularly achievable. I think a stadium capacity of 44-48 k would achieve sell outs several times a season at least. It would also set the club up for future success, European adventures, European/world cup games down the line. If the expansion was a second tier on three sides excluding the Itchen then even if "only" 32000 turned up for say Wigan it would still be a great atmosphere!! I also hope they would put more hospitality along the Kingsland! Set the bar too low and you stifle success, set it too high and all you do is miss the target!!
  22. Not fussed thatvthe crowd was "only" 10,000 ish, especially as it was the largest of the day. It hasn't effected the result, and in these tough financial times isn't it better that people save their money for the next two home games which ate far more important!! Hopefully 24-25k+ at both!!
