Tbh I kinda used the word 'mate' loosely! I've met him quite a few times though honest It's quite possible that I got the wrong the end of the stick and Nugent was his BM, but whatever the case, that was still said. Compare that attitude to Rickie's interview on SaintsPlayer. No comparison. However, if he joins, he'll get my support. If he could be as good for us as he was Preston, then I don't care how much of a w@nker he is!

I went to school in Portsmouth so have a lot of skate friends. Don't be fooled by him winning player of the year, many of them were glad to see the back of him. It's not like me to write off any player before he's joined, but I just don't think he's for us.
-
OK I take it back, he's a legend
-
Haha I should point out this was a little while before the Skates got caught out... No, I'm also friends with Nelson Mandela so it cancels out.

Nugent is a prize ****. My mate (Nugent's BM at his wedding): "It must be difficult, not getting many games at the moment?" Nugent: "Don't care mate, I still get paid every week" No thanks.

Totally agree, Hammond has earned a chance to prove himself at NPC level and deserves to be given that chance. Guly is a difficult guy to predict. I'd like to think he'll thrive in the higher quality of the NPC, but having him and Lambert up front may put a lot of pressure on the likes of Lallana and Chamberlain to get up ahead of them to make up for the front line's lack of pace. This is the reason why I think we need a pacier striker, with Guly maybe dropping deeper or acting as one of NA's 'impact players'. Anyway it will be interesting to see the differences in the starting line up against Leeds compared to the end of the season.

Did that definitely happen then? Great news and I agree with the prediction of first teamer by April
-
After seeing the interview with him on player, I'd be happy with a team of 11 Rickie Lamberts. What a top bloke he is. He'll be rightly remembered as a Southampton legend at the end of this new contract. Great man.

What's wrong with the bus thing? It's just a bit of a light hearted joke you miserable b*stards! Great news about Rickie, our best striker for years and far more important player for us than some realise.

Neophyte noun 1.a beginner or novice: He's a neophyte at chess. 2.Roman Catholic Church . a novice. 3.a person newly converted to a belief, as a heathen, heretic, or nonbeliever; proselyte.

A possibility at home. Away I would prefer: ---Cork/Hammond-----Morgan----- Chamberlain----Lallana--------Riise -------------Lambert------------- In an ideal and (unlikely) scenario.
-
I don't think so. Pace is an asset obviously, but experience and skill can count for so much more. Just look at Ryan Giggs.

Your avatar is TERRIFYING

If he did come, I'd expect him to play further up the field. Can't see us using him at left back when he could be so dangerous as a winger.
-
Sharp all the way for me. Mainly because both Maynard and CMS are horrendously over-priced, and Sharp has the most consistent scoring record at Championship level.
-
I still reckon he'll be here at then end of August.
-
If they've rejected 3 mil then we should look elsewhere imo. He would be a cracking signing, but I don't think Donny will sell him.

Yep, for sure. I just highlighted European youngsters because I think it would show that the club is really serious about building a team for the future, 'Barcelona style', and that our European scouting network is as strong as we all hope it to be. Jennings would be great, but I think if he moved to the NPC he'd want to be a first choice winger, can we offer him that with Lallana and Chamberlain in the side? I suppose it would mean we could rotate AOC and DJ for what will be a long, hard season on young legs. Then again, as Chez says, it looks like he could be headed to Bayern anyway, which makes these musings completely pointless!
-
I would tend to agree with you. As people have said, it would be a massive sign of intent. (my previous post was just to act as devil's advocate)
-
Maynard or Sharp + Ambrose + a CB with NPC experience = Quality summer in my book. I'd also like to see us pick up a few talented young players from europe.
-
This will probably get moved into the rumours thread, but it's good news that the BBC have picked up on it. They don't tend to print things like this unless they have some real inside knowledge. Maynard would be an absolutely quality signing, but should we really be spending upwards of 3 million on a striker, when most people believe we are weakest at CB and CM?
-
I'm not really bothered about getting Peltier tbh, I reckon DB and FR are more than capable right backs at NPC level
-
tbh I was pretty sure they would struggle a few weeks ago and I said as much on here. I hadn't expected that they would go down this (frankly idiotic imo) **** or bust route. Now my views have changed. I still don't see them finishing in the top 2 though.

Great contribution to the debate
