First off we've payed 15m not 10m for Archer. But the point is we simply can't afford to drop £25m on one player (at the moment). If we did that we'd have no funds to strengthen in the other areas that need attention, so no Archer or GK for example. Obviously this could change if we can bring some money in, which is why it's so important that we shift a few out now like ABK, Tall Paul, KWP etc. Even if we had the money, O'Riley would still have to agree to come here, when it seems likely he has more attractive offers.

Pretty underwhelmed if this is our main striker signing tbh, we've basically signed Sheffield Utd's attack from last season. Gives me Rhian Brewster vibes, scored a few in the Championship but struggled in the PL. Anyway really hope to be proved wrong and good luck to him.

He's bloody awful, wouldn't want him anywhere near Saints. His main attribute is throwing himself to the ground.
-
I tend to agree, he's never impressed me much when I've seen him but my step dad is a Leeds fan and raves about him, thinks he's gonna go on to big things. Then again he also thinks Kalvin Phillips is brilliant.

So? The rivalry is based on the geography and rivalry of the two cities, not how often we play each other. If anything the scarcity of meetings ramps it up even more when we do play. If you don't understand it I can only assume you're not from Southampton. If you are it makes it more baffling. The buzz from beating the skates is one of the biggest highs you can experience as a Saints fan.

Who was the last signing that genuinely got you excited?
LuckyNumber7 replied to Midfield_General's topic in The Saints
Ramirez. Had just been watching him in the Olympics that summer and he looked like a rising star, so to then see us getting linked with, and then signing him just after getting promoted felt like a real statement of intent. -
We've already spent £50m, we wouldn't have spent anywhere near that if we'd stayed down.

We can't spend what we don't have.

https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/24503913.men-smash-southampton-coffee-shop-window-early-morning-burglary/ Was a burglary overnight, so doesn't seem to be linked to the protests.

You sure about that? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cj622z0w7n0o No surprise 'BBC Verify' initially fed out misinformation. Regardless of who was inside, incidents like this are disgusting and hopefully the scum involved are heavily punished.

Yes because having an open door policy to a whole continent to come in as they please is clearly the answer, and fuck all the consequences. Anyway thanks for the personal insults, you're obviously much cleverer than me. 👍

You asked them all did you? Myself and everyone I know who voted for Brexit knew exactly why they were voting, and it had nothing to do with 'the end of brown people'. No doubt there were some thick idiots who thought that but to say it was the majority is just the usual lazy stereotyping bollox.
-
Absolute nonsense, the point of Brexit was to end freedom of movement, which mostly involved white eastern Europeans.

You don't think Charlie Taylor is an upgrade on Manning?

Brilliant. The first of those 'lies'... During his speech, Trump claimed that the country has had the worst inflation ever under the Biden administration. This claim is misleading. Biden was in office for record-high inflation in June 2022, when it stood at 9.1% – the highest since 1981. But inflation has also since come down in the past two years. So not a lie then.

Who cares who the sponsor is? Draper would have been nice for the nostalgia but other than that I just want whoever will pay the club the most money. We need every penny we can get to help us compete. -
Absolutely, it's nonsense. Just purely in terms of ability he is our best CB so I'd love to see him re-integrated into the squad. I'm sure the injuries are just as frustrating for him as they were for us.

Yes exactly, it's not a Pompey song. -

Because we sing Southampton til I die, it's not just a Pompey song. -
Really nice kit, it's a shame football shirts are so expensive these days or I'd be tempted to buy one myself. Don't even bother with Saints shirts much now. The 'V' is a little reminiscent of our old Pony kit which I hated, this is much nicer. I also really like the Airdrie kits!

What is the source for this though? The narrative that ABK has a bad attitude seems to be one of those Saintsweb myths that has grown from the fact he had the misfortune to have a few injuries. He was seemingly the only one of our loaned out players who was in with the fans cheering us on at Wembley, doesn't suggest an attitude problem to me. He may well be off this summer but there seems to be a lot of lazy assumptions about him on here.

The handball was certainly debateable but that is an issue with the interpretation of the rules, not VAR. According to the rules as they are it was the correct decision so Michael Oliver had no choice but to give it. It's what constitutes a handball that needs looking at. The offside I don't have a problem with as it's factual. The line has to be drawn somewhere, you can't just say it was close so we'll give the goal. It's either offside or it's not, no matter how small the margin. Personally I would rather they used the feet as the marker but that wouldn't have made a difference to that Denmark goal anyway. As for your last point, VAR has also given goals that were disallowed on field, it doesn't just take them away.
