  1. No chance unfortunately, if he leaves Sunderland it'll be for the PL. Unless we sell someone then I don't think we need another winger. Sulemana, Edozie, Fraser, SAA and potentially Arma are great options for the Championship.
  2. IIRC, I think at the forum he also stated clearly that Martin is his man. Regardless, it's been said more than once. Not to mention the fact that as Director of Football, appointing a manager would be one of his main tasks.
  3. It was Jason Wilcox who selected him.
  4. It was actually today, good finish too...
  5. He's an excellent manager, was assistant under Bielsa at Leeds and did a great job at Huddersfield too. But we can't just go and get whoever we want, even if we'd made an approach I'm sure it would have been very difficult to pry him from West Brom. Anyway Martin is doing a good job.
  6. Really was a game of two halves, played some really good football in the first half without creating too many chances, and also defended well. WBA were dreadful but really stepped it up in the second half as expected and it was a tough watch at times. The winner came against the run of play but I love the resilience this team is showing now. Nice to have a proper spine in the team again too! Feels like a really big win this. Well done Martin and the team.
  7. A few weeks old but this video sums things up well. It's not even just Saudi, the next 3 World Cups are a shambles. Infantino is a bigger crook than Blatter.
  8. He could do a decent job there imo. I don't think he's a bad manager, was just the wrong fit for us and at the wrong time.
  9. Interesting that you say Puel was a decent manager, when our football under him was far more tedious and dull than it is now. As RM stated several times, he's not going to abandon 'Russball' (I hate that term), this is how he wants his teams to play. Yesterday's performance was clearly his style working as intended, there was still plenty of the 'tippy tappy crab' football as you put it but it was far more effective at doing what it's supposed to do, drawing the opposition out and creating space in other parts of the pitch that we could then exploit. It's obviously still being refined and in some previous games we have lacked the movement to take advantage, but that was much better yesterday. 'Russball' working as it should. If you watch Brighton they play exactly the same way and are very successful at it. It's just getting the balance right of when to play that forward ball but as we saw yesterday when it works, it's a joy to watch.
  10. Got a standing ovation from all four stands as he walked around the pitch. Looked like he really enjoyed it and posed for some photos with fans too. Was great to see him back at SMS! Always is for the early kick offs. A bit of nerves too in the second half.
  11. Great to get an injury time winner for a change! Wasn't a brilliant performance but we were the better team in the second half and deserved the 3 points. Get the feeling some on here would only be happy if we won 5-0 every week. I think in general our possession and approach play is pretty decent, but we are desperately lacking a proper striker and focal point up front. Hopefully this is where Stewart will make a big difference as Charly, Che, Arma etc aren't it.

  13. For once I agree with you. Unfortunately there seems to be a large number of knobheads in our fanbase who revel in negativity and making SMS a toxic place for us to play. The result was frustrating but the performance and effort didn't warrant that reaction.
  14. We played well yesterday and but for their keeper having a blinder would have won comfortably. I get the frustration but some of our fans booing and berating Martin and the players at full time was disgusting really. Shame as the support during the game was good.
  15. Great news, and he comes across as a really genuine and likeable lad.
  16. South Stoneham House was demolished a year or two ago anyway.
  17. Don't like some of the arrogance/complacency on this thread thinking we just need to turn up to smash them by 4 or 5. We should know better with our appalling home record of the last few years, I don't feel any confidence going into a home game and I expect Rotherham will mostly pile 11 men behind the ball and be hard to break down which is when we struggle the most. Obviously it would be great to get a big win and start chipping away at that goal difference but I'll take any kind of win to round off the week and send us into the international break happy. I'll go 2-1 Saints.

  19. As others have said an ugly win, but you need wins like that in this league over a long gruelling season. I thought we were clearly the better team but got dragged down to their level towards the end, however on the whole we defended excellently. We also missed 3 very good chances to make the score more comfortable, whilst I can barely remember Stoke creating anything of note. Andy Hinchcliffe was doing my head in banging on about the Downes challenge, never in 100 years was that a penalty. The Bednarek one though we did get away with. Downes was my MOTM, KWP excellent as usual and bazunu's distribution very good again. Sully a big threat but just needs to improve his end product. Actually thought Stuey had a shocker of a first half aside from his goal. Also think people are being overly harsh on Mara, the miss aside I thought he showed some nice touches.
  20. Some years ago I spent a couple of weeks in Mansfield for work, and it's the same there. Everyone called me duck. As for the game I genuinely have no idea about the result, it could be anything. Would be great to win and build on the positivity but a draw wouldn't be a disaster.
  21. Well the early season optimism has been quickly swept away. Ipswich really were nothing special yet we looked utterly clueless going forward again. Combined with more kamikaze defending the result is no surprise. Sorry to say Smallbone is a complete waste of a shirt, offers absolutely nothing. A Armstrong works hard but is a horrific footballer. Only real positive was KWP who was excellent, and we did look better once Charles moved into midfield. Aribo did ok. But something needs to change or we'll be nowhere near promotion.
  22. Hard to have any confidence in getting a result whilst we're leaking goals at such an alarming rate. Oh what I'd give for a clean sheet.
  23. I'm in Kingsland North and tbf the Chapel sounded louder than the Northam for much of the game. Great noise from the Itchen North as well in the first half. Good effort guys. Unfortunately the Northam seems to be full of idiots who ruin every chant by clapping at 100mph and then get on the players' backs as soon as they misplace a pass.
  24. Still think he's crap but credit where it's due, he was our best player last night. Mostly excellent distribution and he actually made one or two half decent saves, could do nothing about the goals. Keep that up and my opinion of him might change, the one positive from that shit show.
  25. Embarrassing. We won't go up with a defence that includes Bazunu and Holgate.
