I'm sick to death of us meekly surrendering in 'must win' games, just off the top of my head Forest and Brentford and now Palace at home, Leeds and West Ham away have all been pathetic performances where we've barely had a shot on goal and shown no urgency, seemingly playing for a 0-1 defeat. What summed it all up for me yesterday was when the board went up for 1 minute of stoppage time at the end of the first half, instead of trying to get the ball forward and get a lead going into the break, we just passed it around at the back waiting for the half time whistle to go. No urgency, no intent, just negative cowardly football. Yet somehow it's the fans' fault for not getting behind the team. Seriously we've had 6/7 years of this utterly turgid rubbish at home, all the passion and belief has been sucked out of the fans to the point we hardly care any more. Let's look at our home record since Koeman left; 2016/17 W6 D6 L7 GF17 GA21 PTS24 2017/18 W4 D7 L8 GF20 GA26 PTS19 2018/19 W5 D8 L6 GF27 GA30 PTS23 2019/20 W6 D3 L10 GF21 GA35 PTS21 2020/21 W8 D3 L8 GF28 GA25 PTS27 2021/22 W6 D7 L6 GF23 GA24 PTS25 2022/23 W2 D4 L10 GF15 GA30 PTS10 - With 3 games still to play This year has been a new low but not once in those seasons have we won more games than we've lost whilst mostly struggling to average much more than a goal a game. We have been given nothing to get behind on the pitch other than passive, dull crab football, whilst off it we are fed corporate bullshit about how league position isn't important and we are a stepping stone club for young talent. Home fans are treated like criminals whilst away fans have the red carpet rolled out and are allowed to pretty much do whatever they want and have a great day out. Personally I can't wait for this season to end and a fresh start in the Championship and hopefully a fresh mentality. Things may or may not get better but there is literally no way it can be less enjoyable than it is now.

Along with the lack of goals, Bazunu is the main reason we are going down. Clean sheets get you points even if you don't score, to only have 4 all season is abysmal. We have only scored 2 goals fewer than Wolves yet they are now well clear of danger. Turning defeats into draws by not giving away cheap goals every game is so important. Literally no other PL club would have looked at a 19/20 year old mid table L1 keeper who's never played in the top flight and brought him in as first choice. One of the biggest clusterfucks of so many clusterfucks that have been made this season. Also agree with others who think he will be out of his depth in the Championship.

Apparently we just didn't know what we wanted, probably in terms of short term or long term appointment. https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/23452895.former-usa-player-hints-jesse-marsch-rejected-southampton-job/

He'll be off in the summer anyway, if his head's not in it we may already have seen the last of him in a Saints shirt. Shame as he was showing real promise in the first half of last season but in the last year or so has really gone backwards.
-
1. There is zero chance Potter will want to come to a team in a mess and heading for the Championship when he can wait 'til the summer and probably have a pick of decent mid table clubs to choose from. 2. Just me that thinks he's over-hyped? Had his struggles at Brighton last season (they went six home games without scoring) and they have improved since he left, then he turned Chelsea into a shitshow. Not saying I wouldn't have him here but not sure he's as good as many make him out to be.
-
Reminds me of an old headline that's always stuck with me from the 90's in The Pink (remember that)? 'Saints swoop for Whiston' (remember him)? Like it was a big coup to sign some guy from Exeter nobody had ever heard of. Only played one game for us.
-
And yet Tella looked pretty clueless himself in the PL last season. It is a lot easier to score goals in the Championship where a lot of his goals that I've seen have come from really poor defending. Hopefully this season has done him the world of good and if he stays he tears it up for us whatever division we're in, but he could just as easily be another Adam Armstrong. He has proved nothing in the Premier League yet and if he were still here would very unlikely be our saviour.
-
I think the problem is, Onuachu is a finisher and probably not a lot else, but we simply don't create any chances.

Such a disappointing performance considering what was at stake. As others have said the selections of Diallo and especially Moi were a complete disaster, they are just nowhere near good enough. We were so labored and pedestrian in how we played, we actually looked scared to play a forward ball. There were plenty of times when Che and Sulemana made runs off the last man but were just never picked out, instead the ball going backwards and sideways again until we lost possession. WWe are s easy to play against, no urgency at all and no clue how to break Brentford down. The injury to KWP is just another kick in the bollocks. Feels like any remaining hope has been extinguished tonight, a golden chance to get out of the bottom three and we blew it. There are too many players in this squad who aren't up to standard, I'm almost looking forward to a cleansing of the squad in the summer and a fresh start in the Championship. Just seeing us score a few more goals would be nice.

Up to 50k people turning up on our beaches uninvited and unannounced, is an invasion. -
Weird how some are getting their knickers in a twist, I would say the loan has worked out exactly as all parties would have wanted. Tella clearly wasn't ready for PL football last season so a season of playing regular football in the league below to learn his trade and develop was a no brainer. If he'd stayed his game time would have been limited and he wouldn't have pushed on as he has at Burnley. There is also a big difference between scoring goals in the Championship and the PL, see Adams and Armstrong. Tella still has everything to prove at PL level. Now Saints have a decision to make in the summer, either we get a player return who is rejuvenated and full of confidence and proven he can score goals in the Championship (where we'll likely be) or we get a nice healthy fee for selling him. Win win.

I always find this argument hilarious, that just because we have criminals already resident in this country we should have no problem importing them from elsewhere. If it were possible I'd deport the British born scumbags as well but of course that's not an option. That was just one recent and locally relevant example, not to mention the Albanian drug dealers or migrants breaking into homes in Dover etc and that's just ones we know about. Point is we have no idea who is rocking up on these boats, everyone should be strictly vetted before they are allowed into the country. It's madness that this is even considered controversial. Your other points just highlight how this government despite having more power since Brexit, as well as all previous governments have utterly failed the British public in controlling both legal and illegal immigration numbers. -
In case people aren't aware there are cheaper tickets available for this one, be good if we could get a sell out.

Try travelling around the US and you will see what 'huge amounts of empty land' looks like, it ain't this country where you're rarely more than a few miles away from the nearest town or village. Countryside is important for many reasons and does not just exist to be built on. Yes I get that people die, emigrate etc, and? NET migration is currently over half a million people and that's not even including the ones coming over on boats. That means we have to effectively build TWO Southamptons every year just to accommodate the people coming here legally, and still you want more. That is nowhere near sustainable and is it any wonder so many younger people will never be able to own their own home. We take less because we are a much smaller country so it's not nonsense at all. If France want to take in millions then that's up to them but should have no bearing on how many we allow in. When would enough be enough for you, or should we just wave everyone through who wants to come here? Yes they have a right to apply for asylum, that is very different to travelling over on dinghies. On that last paragraph I agree, we should be doing that AS WELL as cracking down on the illegal boat crossings. I never mentioned stick, I said remove the carrot. If they know they won't be allowed to stay then they would be pretty stupid to still pay thousands to a criminal gang to risk their lives and be permanently banned from the UK. Then we need to re-draft it or rip it up altogether as it's not working in this day and age. The rights of foreigners should always be second to those of the people living here. Lol and this just sounds like anti Tory, anti Brexit frothing at the mouth. Some valid points in there but I have no love for any of the political parties. But yeah let's make things better by welcoming in more of these 'poor, desperate' people, like this guy. https://www.aol.co.uk/news/man-came-uk-illegal-boat-171222786.html -

We are already one of the most densely populated major countries in Europe, you may not have a problem with vast swathes of the countryside disappearing under concrete but I and many others do. As you point out, the south east in particular is very over crowded and though you may make some valid points, most immigrants want to live in or near London, not up north in the middle of nowhere. How are these people not contributing to the housing shortages, do they not need somewhere to live? If 50k per year are coming across then that's probably at least 10-20k extra homes needing to be built just to accommodate the illegals coming over on boats. It's not the only problem but it certainly is a problem. Here in and around Southampton, and also where my parents live in the midlands, there are new housing estates and projects popping up all over the place and more and more green belt land is disappearing. No-one is saying the housing shortage is solely down to immigrants but it's not exactly rocket science, the more people coming in the more housing you need. You're the one seemingly fine waving through illegal immigrants, so what is the point of a border? Whether you like it or not, they ARE coming here illegally. Crossing through multiple safe countries to get here all of which have more space than we do. Many are coming from Albania ffs, they are illegal economic migrants coming from very different cultures to ours and they should not be our responsibility. A government's job is to look after it's own people first, not anyone who decides they want to come here. Aside from the immigration issue, these boat crossings need to be stopped purely for humanitarian reasons unless you want to see more people drowning in the Channel. Take away the carrot and you remove the reason for the boat crossings in the first place. Welcome them with open arms and of course they will continue. -

Why have borders at all eh? Let's just let everyone in who wants to come. It's not like we have a shortage of available land and housing. -
I just don't see any argument for keeping Bazunu in the side. He offers absolutely nothing positive and his nervousness just feeds through the whole defence. McCarthy or Caballero might come in and be just as bad but at this point we have nothing to lose, they literally cannot be any worse.
-
Most players will have clauses in their contracts that reduce their wages if we get relegated, which makes them more affordable for other clubs. The star players would of course be off, but I would expect the likes of Moi, Lyanco, Bednarek, Diallo etc to go abroad.
-
For me Willy is the best of a very bad bunch, I don't recall him doing anything wrong when he's deputised this season and with his experience he is more of a calming influence on the defence. Bazunu just has no redeeming features, I don't remember him making a single save that you wouldn't expect him to make and he lets plenty in that he should save, always flaps at crosses and distribution is erratic. Inspires zero confidence. As crap as McCarthy is, he has at least been decent before, hence his player of the season award. All 3 need to be shipped out in the summer. I can't believe we managed to make an already dire goalkeeping situation worse.
-
Yeah I've felt the same for a few years now. The whole matchday experience at SMS has become so depressing - rubbish players, hardly any wins, hardly any goals, crap atmosphere, away fans taking the piss while home fans are treated like criminals and so on. The worst thing is that I'm struggling to care any more, and when Saints have been such a big part of your life that is a horrible feeling. Gave up my ST after covid for various reasons, think I'd be more likely to get one again if we go down. The whole club needs a complete reset, and the fans need some hope and something to believe in again.

1. Elyounoussi 2. Bednarek 3. A Armstrong

Yates has a couple of pool tables upstairs and is usually a designated away fans pub.

Excellent stuff. First time I've seen it, but how the hell did that Chelsea player not get sent off for the studs up thigh high tackle on Tall Paul?
-
Obviously the proof is in the pudding in terms of results/performances, but must say I was very impressed by how he spoke. Calm, clear, ambitious, knowledegable. I can see why he's impressed the board and the players like him. We'll see how it goes but I suddenly have the feeling that maybe he might be as good an option as anyone right now. Good luck Ruben.

Exactly this, the way the Sky Sports reporter painted it yesterday was that both sides had decided mutually that the deal wasn't right and had walked away amicably with a handshake. That's just how negotiations go, doesn't always end with an agreement but people are just using it as another stick to beat the club with. Personally I'm disappointed as I'd come round to the idea of Marsch and think he would have been a good fit, but if they didn't feel it was right for whatever reason then we have to trust them. Only those on the inside know the exact reasons.
