What rubbish. You mean like Will Still did, winning 2 of his 13 games? And if you think we have the best squad in the league, you're deluded. We do have some good individual players, but so do other teams. Honestly I'm not sold on Tonda yet, but he's doing a pretty decent job on the whole. I feel like we could win every remaining game and some of you would still be moaning about him.

Of course, it's all everyone else's fault. Everything will be fine in 10 years.

Well they were stupid enough to vote in this current shambles. Hopefully you're right about the NHS. It's a complete money drain.
-
Yeah it's weird, but I guess there's just more southern teams than northern teams at that level. Merthyr in there too. Northernmost team in National League South is Hemel Hempstead.

The Starmer Years - Can The New Broom Sweep Clean?

Welcome to the far right. -
I remain to be convinced that he's the right man long term, but you certainly can't argue with the results on the whole. Seems to be shaping the squad to how he wants it and we're now starting to see a settled team. I think he's learning on the job. Worth remembering that we were 21st when Still was sacked.

Crap game but happy to grind out a win. Really pleased for Larin to quieten some of the doubters, dream debut and hopefully more to come, although he'll need to work on his fitness. Welington was my MOTM again though, it's criminal that Manning was picked ahead of him for so long. Also a shout out to THB who is looking more like his old self recently, and no sign of sulking after the West Ham bid was turned down. 1 goal conceded in 4 games now (and that was a handball). Reaping the benefits of a change in formation and personnel.

It's perfectly fine to have an initial opinion of a player but some of the comments on Larin have been completely ott and frankly out of order. On this forum he's already been called a prick, donkey, joke just off the top of my head before even signing for us. I also disagree about his stats being bad, he generally has a good goalscoring record across his career, albeit in mostly weaker leagues. Maybe La Liga was a step too far or the league just didn't suit him. But we're mid table in the Championship now, that's our level. People are placing far too much weight on what the Feyenoord fans are saying about him. He's barely played for them (1 start I think)? Of course they're not going to be gushing. Has anyone looked to see what Besiktas fans thought of him, where he scored almost 1 in 2? Sometimes it doesn't work out for a number of reasons. As someone who saw him play a few games for Canada I was mildly pleased when I saw the link, I just can't quite believe the venom that has been spewed about his signing, probably from people who have never seen him play. Especially as his profile is what many have been calling for. A physical presence with a half decent scoring record. He may well turn out crap and fair enough if so, but at least it's only a loan. I hope our fans give him a fair crack of the whip but I'm not holding my breath.

Really mixed feelings on this. Feel like I should be gutted but I'm not. Was very good in our promotion season and will always be remembered for the winner at Wembley. But aside from that he's largely been very poor. Even this season he had a good purple patch but in his last 10 games has zero goals and 1 assist. Misses far too many. With his age and only 18 months left on his contract it feels like the right time to sell, he's on the downslope of his career. Always gave his all though. I'm more relieved that we finally seem to have realised we need more physical presence up front.
-
Welcome and good luck Cyle. Hopefully he rams some of the nonsense back down people's throats and secures his place in the world cup. If not it's only a loan.
-
Except he has scored goals at a good rate in the MLS and for Besiktas, and to a lesser extent in La Liga. He's barely played for Feyenoord so it's hardly surprising their fans aren't positive about him but we're not in the PL anymore. We'll have to see if he scores goals in the Championship but some of the reactions on here are beyond hysterical.
-
I recall being quite impressed by Larin when seeing him for Canada. Experienced, and a physical presence with a good goal record albeit in some lesser leagues. Isn't that what most have been crying out for? Seems the Saintsweb way to bitch and moan at any incoming. We're mid table in the Championship, I'm not sure who people are expecting us to attract in January.

Yep, I was right behind the goal in the freezing cold that night and that miss still gives me nightmares. Relegated by two points in the end. Far worse than that sending off. Can't believe it was 21 years ago!

Absolute madness, he looks bang average at best every time I see him. Just goes to show how difficult it is to get a decent striker these days. Regarding Arma, I'm not his biggest fan but it's undeniable he scores goals in the Championship and that won't be easy to replace. But if we get a good offer approaching £15M I think it would be hard to turn down and it feels like both player and club could do with a fresh start, so I wouldn't be too upset.

I think it's mainly down to PSR, and it's precisely because Birmingham haven't been in the PL for a long time that they have the room to splurge a bit (same for Wrexham). We on the other hand have a large squad full of players on high wages and are still owing instalments on PL transfer fees. Combined with the financial losses of relegation, we have to be very careful what we spend. I'd rather we kept our powder dry for the summer tbh, but would like to see a striker come in on loan if we can find a suitable one.

Yes, remember the Luke O'Nien incident against Sunderland in the playoffs a few years ago. Bunch of inbred neanderthals. "Ner ner ner ner ner Portsmuff"! Bestest in the world...

Let's be honest, most people on here have been saying for months that our team of soft arses were going to wilt and embarrass us in this game, but they didn't. Far from a brilliant performance but they did compete and get stuck in, like others have said I really liked Downes' performance and he looked like he was enjoying it. I think they realised how much this meant and we can't question their effort. I like the look of Peretz, so much more commanding than Baz. He'll make the odd clanger I think but he inspires a lot more confidence, he's a proper 'keeper. Overall I'm frustrated not to have won after looking in control, but the main thing is we didn't lose. They barely created anything and only scored with a handball. It could have been a lot worse.

I can't remember a single game under Still where we played well. Closest was probably the 0-0 v Swansea where we did create chances but it still wasn't a good performance, similar to Hull on Saturday. He was taking us nowhere and looked lost. I live a 20 minute walk from SMS and feel obliged to go as a ST holder, but I really don't want to. Not all down to SR though.
-
Tbf we were heavily linked with Semenyo that window. Maybe he turned us down.
-
I can't wait for the day he leaves and we never have to see him in a Saints shirt again. Horrendous footballer. Ironically he was slightly less shit in the PL imo but overall he has been terrible for us. He just cannot defend. I don't really get the hate for Welington. He's unspectacular but always puts in a decent shift and is solid enough. It's baffling how so many managers keep picking Manning.
-
Yes I noticed this too. Not only was there no bollocking, but Manning and Quarshie actually shook hands as they were walking back as if to say 'ah well, you tried'. Thought that just summed everything up, they should have been going mad at each other. (Manning totally at fault btw, not Quarshie). I will give some credit to THB today as I thought he was doing his best, he just looks so confused in a back 3. He gets a lot of stick on here but I do think it matters to him. Also fronted the Northam after the game despite a lot of booing. He should be captain imo. Just don't know where we go. The whole club feels broken and I'm dreading next Sunday.
-
Yes you can. IIRC we spent around £120M and were one of the highest spenders that summer. You can't just take Downes and THB out of the equation as we spent £40M combined on them, which everyone was happy with at the time. You also didn't mention Fernandes and Archer who I think were another £15M each, and another £3M on Wood. We absolutely did spend the money, just as MLG said we spent it very badly.
-
It's not mental at all. Last season he scored 3 goals in 35 matches in League 1 for Blackpool and Cambridge. I can just imagine the meltdown on here if we were linked now with a striker from the division below with that record! He may well go on to have a good career but it would have been a huge gamble to be relying on hime to score goals in the Championship. He's also far too similar to Armstrong and Archer in profile. We need/needed more of a target man type striker, a more physical presence. Why? I wouldn't be expecting much. I think there's a good chance we'll loan in a striker before the end of the window but unlikely we do more than that. Not much business gets done in January.
-
I'm not sure many fans did want Carrick? Regardless, he's only at Man Utd because of his connections with the club. Boro fans don't think too highly of him. As for Rosenior, anyone who thought he'd have left Strasbourg to come here is utterly deluded.
-
I am sure Onuachu would have scored goals in the Championship but what people are forgetting is how knackered he always looked. There's no way he'd have handled the rigours of a 46 game Championship season. Pretty sure he wanted out anyway. Salech would be an ideal signing but there's no way Cardiff would let him go, and they'll be in the same league as us next season.
