Agreed, he was excellent for the first part of last season but does seem to have regressed a bit rather than push on. Very much blows hot and cold these days and I would be more than happy with a partnership of ABK and DCC with Lyanco as decent back up plus a new signing. I'm sure Sali will be off in the summer as looks unlikely to sign a new contract. As long as we get a decent fee I wouldn't be too upset.

Kazeem Olaigbe is at Ross County and getting fairly regular game time, though has yet to score for them.

He was a bit clumsy in possession a few times but other than that I thought he looked bright and alert and has something about him. What I liked were the two important defensive interventions he made which were acknowledged by his team mates. For a 20 year old kid who's only just flown in to a new continent and culture I think it would be harsh to judge him too much on yesterday's game, but I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do once he's properly settled.

Bloody hell the state of those scousers, absolutely cringeworthy.

3 wins in a week... We fucking won at Goodison... Arise Sir Nathan!!

Managers need time. Absolutely insane to start calling for his head after THREE games. It's not like we were brilliant before he arrived, some of the vitriol aimed at a guy who has come in to a difficult situation and is trying his hardest to turn things around for us has been disgusting frankly and he has every right to defend himself and give a bit back. Hilarious to see some of those same fans now getting upset. Last night was an absolute master class from both the manager and players against the best team in the world. In the long run Jones may or may not turn out to be the right man for the job but if you can't even give him a a fair chance and just want to boo and moan then feck off and support that lot down the road. Well done Nathan, hopefully this can be the platform for an improvement in the league now.

Saints 2-0 Man City - The Treble is STILL on!
LuckyNumber7 replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
No idea where that came from, that's the best we've played in years! Everyone did their bit but Lyanco in particular was outstanding. Hope people get off Jones' back for a bit now and give him a chance. Continue to play like that and with a few new additions maybe we can save this season. A semi final to look forward to as well! -
I know he's an attacking full back but why are you judging a defender on goals and assists? Especially as his lack of assists is more to do with how we play (few crosses) and lack of decent strikers to take advantage. KWP is by far our best player imo, good defensively, excellent with the ball in tight spaces and very good at dribbling it forward. Which is where it usually breaks down due to our crapness in attack. Tino did very well when he first came in but faded fast before his injury and is not as good defensively as KWP. I'm sure he'll be off in the summer and it's hard to begrudge him a move given what a shit show we've become. We'll miss him when he's gone.

Doku looked sensational at the Euros and destined for big things so it's exciting to be linked with him. For whatever reason he doesn't seem to have pushed on since then but the ability is there without a doubt and if he had fulfilled his potential we would have no chance. Can't see it happening but would be exciting if it did. Like others have said though an out and out striker has to be the priority.

Same, was just thinking how it barely seems like yesterday I was at Pride Park watching him score that free kick and Bradley Wright-Phillips scoring on his debut. How time flies, a star was born that day. Fantastic career and advert for our academy.

Yes you did here, https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/topic/59570-january-2023-transfer-window/page/56/#comment-3114355 Anyway, really hoping the Keane links are BS, last thing we need is another shit CB who specialises in scoring own goals.
-
You mean like Orsic? If your first bid is accepted, you've done something wrong.
-
My only complaint is the (probable) 3 at the back again, other than that what are the alternatives? Stu is likely injured as is ABK and at least he's dropped Elyounoussi. People will moan whatever the lineup is because we have shit players.
-
From what my Celtic mate tells me and what I've seen of Maeda he's very workmanlike. Not a bad player by any means but not one I'd be overly excited about either.
-
There's a lot to be critical about the club atm but fair play to them, this looks like a very shrewd signing and the sort of flair player we've been crying out for since Tadic left. Still more needed of course but this is a good start to the window. I look forward to seeing him in action.

Bloody hell please god not Michael Keane. Can only assume those who are in favour haven't seen him play for Everton, he's horrific and makes way more fuck ups than Lyanco. I'd rather we recalled Bednarek which is saying something.

The World Cup format is perfect as it is as has been shown by this tournament, I really wish they would stop meddling. But if we do have to have 48 teams then I like Egg's idea of groups of 6 and just a big festival of football. Groups of 3 is crap for so many reasons but thankfully even Infantino seems to be realising that. I suspect they'll go with the 12 groups of 4 which is better, I just don't like the grey area of some 3rd place teams qualifying and others not. Same principle for the Euros. There's also likely to be some utter dross qualifying for the finals now which will probably make for some very dull, one sided games.

Were they all pointing to TCWTB whilst singing that? Booing after their first home defeat for nearly a year, and some say our fans are entitled!
-
I always found it so frustrating how Redmond was given chance after chance, yet Boufal was only given the occasional chance to impress and if he didn't he was dropped again. Inconsistent yes but we definitely misused him.
-
Not sure what game you were watching but aside from the penalty miss Messi was the best player on the pitch, even at 35. They highlighted some of his sublime passing and runs after the game, certainly wasn't just safe 3 yard passes.

Southgate will be delighted if this finishes 0-0

Nothing too revelationary but it is good to hear from the owners. They are clearly intelligent guys with a good mix of business and footballing backgrounds who have a clear idea of how they want to run the club which is a good thing. Whether it works or not we'll see. Getting at least one good quality attacking player in January will be key to how things pan out at least in the short term. Nice to hear a bit about how Ralph is doing as well, I suspect in the end his sacking was something of a relief.

There were some interesting comments here from the Luton CEO that basically confirmed we had been in contact with them for a while and Jones was our top target. He's also very complimentary about how Saints conducted the approach. https://thelutonian.com/its-a-sexy-project-everything-chief-exec-gary-sweet-said-on-search-for-new-luton-boss/

Props to that Luton fan for doing something so many on here fail at - spelling Bazunu's name correctly.
