Glastonbury boss Michael Eavis fears the iconic British music festival could be axed by 2015 because the growing number of outdoor summer rock events is saturating the market. "It's on the way out. We've probably got another three or four years. (British festivals) Womad and Latitude are not selling out. Partly it's economics, but there is a feeling that people have seen it all before ...," he tells Britain's The Times. http://entertainment.msn.co.nz/article.aspx?id=8271867 .

Fifa vice-president Jack Warner resigns
Saint in Paradise replied to bridge too far's topic in General Sports
Qatar 'whistleblower' in U-turn The "whistleblower" behind a series of corruption allegations involving Fifa executive committee members and Qatar's 2022 World Cup bid tells the BBC she fabricated the claims. She insists she was placed under no pressure or paid any money by Qatar 2022 to change her story. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/14098944.stm If you believed her first story I suppose you should believe her latest one as well. However I am cynical and just because she says she wasn't directly put under pressure she hasn't said no-one friendly to her was not approached. I probably read to many fiction thrillers . -
A tad worrying that blokes are talking about "fit" men, I only notice "fit" ladies.

I have just read this story and my blood boiled, it's not just UK politicans who are ( fill in your prefered expletives ) New Zealand war heroes in their 90s ended up paying to attend commemorations in Europe while the taxpayer funded the Defence Minister's luxury travel, personal assistant and top hotels. The treatment of the veterans on the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Crete shocked observers, who had expected to see them treated as the centrepiece of the New Zealand contingent. Defence Minister Wayne Mapp spent more than $26,000 on flights and top hotels for himself and a secretary, in luxurious suites overlooking the Bay of Chania. But New Zealand's war heroes were forced to pay out of their own pockets, arrange their own itineraries and stay in modest accommodation, with just $2000 Government support - less than a return airfare. Australian veterans were flown over by their Government and cared for by provided doctors. They stayed at the same upmarket lodgings as Australia's defence and government officials. Crete veteran Malcolm Coughlan said he had travelled on his own savings, and the Government grant had covered about 15 per cent of his expenses. "I've been saving for years. But it was good just meeting the people again." He had travelled with a daughter as his caregiver, and she made most of the arrangements, he said. For the rest of the story :- http://msn.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10737384 Yes I have raised my concerns with my local MP who is a member of the Govt. .

A Victorian couple have found they were being eaten alive by small worms with teeth after falling sick several weeks ago. The couple became chronically ill when they caught and ate a fish, also ingesting gnathostomiasis larvae, while on holiday in Western Australia. This is the first case where humans have been infected with the parasite in Australia, according to The Australian Medical Journal. The worms are 1-3mm long, have sharp teeth and can work their way around the body until it dies or is killed by the human immune system. It can be difficult to diagnose as the worms move under the skin and cause itchy lumps that can make you feel sick. The 52-year-old man told doctors he could feel movement under his skin. A course of antibiotics killed the parasite and the couple have recovered. Worms can live in the human body for up to 15 years, and can travel to the brain, vital organs and spinal chord. http://nz.news.yahoo.com/a/-/world/9785769/couple-eaten-alive-by-tiny-worms/ .

Lowe V Cortese - Who was the best dressed chairman?
Saint in Paradise replied to dune's topic in The Saints
Lowe V Cortese - Who was the best dressed chairman? Well as Mr C is still the chairman there can only be one answer Mr Lowe. Now if you had asked if a previous chairman or the current chairman was the best dressed I would say Mr C. -

Petrol stations thats don't have penny jars.....
Saint in Paradise replied to Saint-scooby's topic in The Lounge
Ah thanks, over here the vast majority pay by card so the exact amount is taken from your Bank. However if you do pay by cash most of those pay by setting the pump to an exact dollars worth. Garages and supermarkets etc now either round up or round down very small amounts as we only have ten cent coins as the lowest denomination. If something is 10 dollars and 4 cents you pay 10 dollars, if 10 dollars and 6 cents you pay 10 dollars and 10 cents hence why most of us tight sods pay by card as it is very common for stuff to be say 10 dollars and 98 cents per item. -
Which generation had it hardest? Part 1 Baby boomers

When I was a child growing up rationing of goods was still in force in the UK. However times certainly appear to be a lot better for us than the younger ones now, perhaps that is why their manners etc are in decline as they are jealous? The other small snag with being a BB is the fact we are all getting quite old now . -

Please would someone tell me what a penny jar is we don't have something like that here. -
The world trade center dropped straight down it didn't cause the collapse of building 7. The owner of building 7 is an extremely wealthy man with very powerful friends. It would only take a very small group of experts to demolish that building. Experts who would know how to keep their mouths firmly shut. .

Two Olympics executives have reportedly been suspended following claims they were paid money by West Ham United football club. The Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) board is in charge of securing the future of the Olympic Park site. It voted 14-0 in February to make the Hammers the first choice to move into the £486m stadium. The Sunday Times says West Ham paid £20,000 into an OPLC executive's bank account before and after it won the right to own the stadium after the Games. On SKY News website link too long to post.

For thousands of years, the appearance of a comet in the terrestrial skies has provoked deep anxiety and even collective hysteria in humans the world over. The reasons for this response are not entirely clear. Working with historical testimony, David Talbott and his colleagues have concluded that comet fears originated in a global experience of catastrophe and terror. Behind all of the regional traditions and stories is the memory of the "Great Comet," the mother of all comets. The memory traces to the origins of world mythology, according to Talbott, and is particularly vivid in the story of a cosmic serpent or dragon threatening to destroy the world. The most common ancient ideas attached to a comet were the death of kings, the fall of kingdoms, cosmic upheaval, and the end of the world. Long but very thought provoking article here:- http://www.thunderbolts.info/thunderblogs/archives/goodspeed08/110629_NASAs_elephant.htm Last post of the day for me so I will be unable to respond to any critical posts. .

I wonder what the Russians think of this and also will the UK authorities take a close look at them ? Birmingham City FC's president Carson Yeung has appeared in court in Hong Kong on money-laundering charges. Mr Yeung was bailed by the Eastern Court in his home city after being charged with five counts. BBC correspondent Annemarie Evans said he had been arrested by the narcotic bureau's financial investigations unit at his luxury home. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-13970534 .
