Predicted exactly this back in May, common sense really after last seasons £150m down the drain.
-
Bazunu was rubbish last season. Our eyes told us that. That said, everyone else was rubbish pretty much too - he is not single-handedly responsible. given he isn’t been replaced, not much choice but to give him the benefit of the doubt. Let’s see if he can improve.

There’s plenty on this thread and the transfers thread. not least the hysterical “where’s the money gone?” posts
-
Added this on the summer exodus thread back in May. It’s pretty clear where the cash is going when you consider the £150 net spend last year needs recouping, and then the loss of tv income far outweighing the saving on wages. —————— Call me cynical, but all this talk of £150m sales meaning good budgets for this level… I suspect the first £140m goes to recouping this season’s losses. the next £50m or so to cover the delta in loss of tv income vs parachute payment receipts. I don’t see us having a mega budget for players next season - more like make do with a lot of this squads dross and three or four key purchases.

Just bumping this for all those who question on various threads where the money has gone / talk of ‘asset stripping’ etc. it was pretty obvious what was going to happen
-
Hard to say until we see the squad at the end of the window. ok the assumption that Bazunu is in goal and we don’t sign a striker, a lot of last seasons problems may persist. I think top half but missing the playoffs and not really in contention.
-
Overly cautious, bordering on cowardice. Good riddance

after this season, any "established player" who thinks they deserve influence in how the team is run can do one
-
Che is absolute crap. Can't believe people think otherwise. For a striker in the PL to be as bad at finishing as he is, it's unbelievable - it's literally what they are supposed to be good at.
-
Results going our way every weekend and our lot couldn’t give a toss or show any fight. Weak and embarrassing players the lot of them
-
What’s not to get? Perhaps it might have something to do with throwing away 3-1 lead in the 88th minute…and not being surprised!
-
Totally inept. Cannot throw away 3-1 in the 88th minute. Pathetic

all this talk of having money when we go down, and managers like Potter baffles me (but maybe i am too cynical). I'd expect: Significant sales will be used to repay this year's wasted £140m transfer splurge & loss of prem TV income; There will be no significant outlay on quality players to get us back up Probably more prem loans, and more signing youth players based on perceive resale value Some incompetent manager picked on some bonkers criteria like "most aggressive nonsense", or a useless ex-player (e.g. Gerrard) Persevering with obvious failures (Bazunu etc) Reliance on fringe players who are probably at their level (e.g. Stephens, A.Armstrong) Overall, zero faith that the current decision-makers will have a clue what to do, and will continue to lurch from one poor decision to another.
-
They don't need financial favours from us. They already owe us one for paying a huge collective sum for the dross we signed from them last summer (excluding Lavia, of course)
-
We'll probably end up with a lot less than that (although only because I don't trust the board to negotiate well). I doubt we get more than £25-30m for JWP - he has been found out. Bednarek - the best offer last season was a loan, can't see anyone paying £10m for him Doubt we'll get £25m for KWP with a year left on his deal. Orsic - a loan / undisclosed negligible fee at best. Similar for DCC. Noone sensible is going to risk £20m on Tino when he hasn't played in a year.
-
Absolutely baffling decision to go into this season with him as first choice. Compared to some of the other realistic keeper signings. e.g. Sam Johnstone from WBA (ahead of being Palace's reserve), who at least has Prem experience and is half decent.
-
This thread makes for interesting re-reading... Someone even predicted Nathan Jones!
-
Comparing Bazunu's relative strengths & weaknesses is like trying to determine whether its better to be punched in the face or kicked in the backside.
-
Are they underperforming? To some, they are performing exactly as expected... Gone into a season with no commanding keeper, a leaky defence, weak midfield (with no creativity) and no goal-threat. Not surprised with the outcome at all.
-
Draws are no use, particularly against rivals. Need wins now.
-
West Ham palace Bournemouth and forest game are must wins. don’t see it happening
-
these useless sacks of shite are not winning another four games (or even scoring four more goals)
-
it's like watching our GK and defence
