No idea, but it's good to talk...! I found the political compass survey... I got: Economic Left/Right: -5.62 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.95 Which is to be expected.

Is the survey that led to that still available? I fancy doing it...

I wonder if he'll comment on the ACCCE case? Or perhaps he's looking for web pages and graphs to use in his reply?

lol, cracking start. Ignoring everything else for one second, why do you feel the need to get personal with people who are simply trying to discuss this with you. Why am I a cabbage? Where is my blanket I am supposedly clutching? Even Delldays would probably have to admit that you have avoided my question *completely* thus far. Why do you feel the need to be so arrogant? I am not 'happy for the World to spend Trillions of $$$', because I do not necessarily think it needs that. I do think it needs addressing, but don't tell me what I am or am not happy for the World to do, when I clearly haven't said that. In fact, I can see good opportunities for progressive and forward thinking industry to generate a new economy based on renewable and sustainable technologies. Perhaps you might like to read some of the work by the New Economics Foundation? Just to warn you however, it might require you to open your mind a little.
  6. I think it's more likely that greedy execs simply see a way to cash in on a short-term wave of public interest (or morbid fascination, whatever you want to call it), and therefore wants to exploit them whilst they have value. Obviously those parts of society who buy this kind of crap make it all possible, but one feeds off the other... the more it's pumped into the tabloid/trash media, the more that part of society want a part of it, and the cycle continues. All rather sad IMO, but each to their own.

Very funny article, like that a lot. (Good morning George... have an answer for me yet?)

    Highlights?

They'll be on the BBC website from midnight tonight, or early tomorrow morning. They always go up the second day after the game (hence Sat games go up Monday morning).

I could be way off the mark, but I wonder if that particular councillor happened to be on a planning committee that would've ignored Environment Agency advice and approved plans to build some of the flooded houses on the flood plain... hence the attempt to deflect blame elsewhere before it comes flying back his way. Cynical? Me? Never. I could be wrong*, I don't know when the affected houses and buildings were built, but the scenario wouldn't surprise me. (* - See what I did there St George!?)

I make no apologies for reposting this, and hopefully others will understand why. Intend to keep doing so until he replies.
  11. AP will have watched Norwich and studied their tactics, and I for one don't see any reason to doubt his analysis, having heard from a Norwich supporting friend who said that Norwich have done particularly well in games where the opposition have tried to play football against them, and unpicked them as a result. Hence AP's tactics and comments make perfect sense to me. I would rather he studied the opposition and came up with tactics as a result, than hope that the way we play is good enough to overcome them. It shows he's thinking about it. Sometimes he might get it wrong, but that's fine by me, that's how we learn. Playing 'ugly' just means making it hard for them... sacrificing a bit of our attacking verve, to break up their play and deny them space and time on the ball. Sadly, as you can see from the move leading to their goal, they were able to execute a slick move forward, about 4 passes, which we had no answer to, because we had players caught ahead of the play. Davis could've done better but the ball was moving a heck of a lot and was not easy to deal with, and his defenders should also be automatically moving back towards him to cover any such rebound. As always, results dictate the reaction and managers are often damned if they do and damned if they don't. Let's not go back to the over-analysis of past seasons, lets acknowledge that we (manager and players) didn't quite get it right, but recognise that we still matched one of the form teams in the division and nearly won.

It seems Hypo was right... George conveniently ignored this. Probably because he can't find a web page with pages of graphs and stats to answer it with.

I actually feel the opposite. I think we would be arrogant if mankind presumed that his actions had *no* consequences, and therefore thought we could do what we liked. Which course of action is more likely to cause damage? And Delldays... you probably think think I'm a lefty do-gooder... so perhaps you would care to read my post above (and most posts I've ever written on the subject) where I accept that my opinion may be wrong and I fully respect others' opinions where they are stated with equal respect for my position.

George, look back at all my comments on these threads and previous. Initially I argued for a precautionary principle, because despite all the science, no one can accurately predict what will happen. But you continued to denounce that, and have never had any respect for anyone who dares disagree with you. I said then, and I say now, you might be right... Maybe man made climate change is non-existant or minimal, but we cannot know for certain, so surely that, combined with the continuing depletion of natural resources and reduction of animal species due to changing habitats and climates, should lead any supposedly intelligent race to moderate their impact on the planet that supports them, to maximise it's ability to do so for future generations. As I say, I might be wrong and I am more than willing to accept that. How can you be so arrogantly certain that you aren't?

Nice to see some robust challenges to St G's incessant, and usually offensive denial. I'm all for debate but as has been proven many times, his inability to accept any opinion other than his own is somewhat limiting... debates need each side to actually acknowledge the other first!
  16. He won't remember me, but I remember him from when i started working at Southampton Airport back in 1994. I can't remember if he was flying for someone, possibly Manx or Loganair, or only flying his own private plane, but he was a really nice guy and not at all up himself like some of his colleagues!
  17. Seeing as this is on just about every other website on the planet(ish), I guess it's time someone posted it on here. From: http://www.thefishy.co.uk/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?m-1257631840/s-0/
  18. Quite sad that being right or at least proving others wrong, is seemingly more important to so many rather than just enjoying a win with fellow Saints fans. Neither side seem able to rise above it either. What I find funniest is that no one could realistically predict what happens over the course of a season and so to claim any kind of 'victory' in these kind of discussions seems incredibly fortuitous rather than insightful. Anyway, onwards and upwards.
  19. I doubt he's too worried... after all, his website in his profile details is http://www.kerins.org.

  21. Your first point is quite correct, we should support local food first and foremost, which I alluded to earlier. However, whilst food is imported and exported, and it will be for some time, genuine Fair Trade goods are generally much better than those that are not in those circumstances, for reasons already stated. Supermarkets won't take the lead in this, they'll simply supply the demand, and so whilst some customers want out-of-season fruit and veg that can only be sourced abroad, they will go and get it and pay as little as possible for it. Fair Trade is still better in these circumstances, and it is better to have that option than not-at-all. Special K - you're right, there are double standards and hypocrisy in the world of the ethical consumer, mainly thanks to those who claim to be ethical but who are not. But it is still better to act as best you can, on the information you have, than not at all IMO.
  22. Indeed. I would heartily recommend the book 'Tescopoly' to anyone with an interest in this kind of thing. It discusses not just the basic issue of price and profit but a whole host of interlinked issues, such a growers and producers being screwed, and the long-term effects of the supermarkets dominance, and how the search for 'cheap' food is a destructive and entirely false economy. On the wider point, I always try to buy local produce first and foremost, from farm shops and high street shops, such as local bakeries, butchers and fruit and veg shops, and then I but fair trade if i need or want something that cannot be bought locally. Some items are neither, but many nowadays. I can afford this, not because I'm particularly rich, but because I'm not greedy and I don't buy things I don't really need. I also don't waste lots of food. In actual fact, my food bill is pretty much the same as it used to be when I used to buy lots of crap from a supermarket, except now I'm supporting the local economy rather than the shareholders of supermarket chains with zero ethical values, eating better quality food, using less resources (packaging, transportation etc) and doing what I think lots more people will need to do in the future, when food security and peak oil become tangible problems to those who prefer to ignore them at present. It's a bit sad that as a result I'll be considered a 'fair trade insistent, allotment owning, cob owning, mortgageless, Prius driving, hunter wearing greeny', especially bearing in mind only one of those statements is actually true. I just consider it common sense if my grandchildren and their children are to inherit a planet that can actually support them, rather than maintaining the greed and consumerism that many selfishly enjoy.
  23. Spot on, they had a room available. Cheers!
  24. Ta, I did look at that place but as I don't need a studio, i thought it might be a bit expensive for my needs. I'll try them though. Edit - Actually, it's quite reasonable, I hadn't looked hard enough, so just left a message for them...
  25. Can anyone recommend any rehearsal venues for a band that might be available tonight? I've tried the places I know, including Planet Sounds, HL studio, Unit 6, Guildford Street... anyone know of anywhere else? It's only for an acoustic two-piece outfit so nothing too loud, and it's needed to check the set-up of kit more than anything, rather than a full-blown rehearsal session, so if there are any other suggestions for places that might be suitable, not necessarily soundproofed studios, then I'd be grateful.
