  1. Lol - spot on. Nice footwork for his second.
  2. I'm at the game, and we need a kick up the arse, but the ref needs shooting too. Back to him in a mo. We showed some quality early on but it was almost too easy and maybe we believed that. The first time they put the ball in the box, KD comes and misses and the ball bobbles in off ssomeones back - that's how it looked. I won't blame KD until i've seen a replay becaise there were lots of bodies in there. pen looked very dodgy to me, again, replay required. We clearly have more quality but since the first goal, they've had their tails up and we need to get back to the ball-winning we showed in the first 15 and then add some composure to our play. This is far from over. As for the ref, keeps penalising our defenders but gives no protection to Lambert. Lots of dubious decisions, but ultimately it's not the ref who will win or lose this.
  3. Careful, someone like Thedelldays will reply to that and say 'Ah, but this is only one game, can he do it consistently'?
  4. It seems to me most of the arguments about posts on this thread are because some people think that some posts imply racism, rather than being explicit about it. I can't see any openly racist posts but unless a poster is 100% open and honest about their meaning when they post, and no one is going to admit being a racist, how can we ever know for sure? That aside, and back to the original point, I have a very simple view on it all. I personally see no need to join a group such as the EDL because, I condemn ALL acts of extremism, no matter who carries them out or where. I also believe that, no matter what the intentions are of the creators of any such group, there will always be extremists or splinter groups or the media waiting to exploit the group and portray it or use it in a way that is not what it was intended for. Therefore, the net result is often negative.
  5. Agree with hamster there, complacency is most definately the biggest threat, although the passengers rarely agreed, and, amazingly, sometimes neither did the pilots or airline staff who were often the worst offenders for trying to blag their way around the security measures in place, to help protect them and their passengers. I was trained to Avsec Level 3, meaning I was (legally) responsible and accountable for managing all aspects of security on the airport whilst on duty. Whilst 9/11 took away some of the discretion that frontline security staff had, and increased the breadth and depth of security searches, there were still areas that were down to individuals to make decisions about. I was one of those individuals and it could be a lonely place sometimes, knowing what potential consequences were. I once had to deal with a genuine bomb threat. From the moment I took the details and contacted the police, I had to deal not only with the threat itself, but over-zealous, untrained police officers who made my life a lot harder. It started with an argument with the first police officer on site in the response car, about how to handle the situation initially. Her senior officer arrived on site to take control as the Incident Control Officer. I thought that would resolve the issue, but sadly, the Inspector didn't know any better either and I was eventually faced with FOUR police officers, none of whom had specialist aviation security or bomb threat training, and who were, frankly, panicking about how to deal with the situation. What a lot of people don't realise about such situations is that whilst a bomb threat is just that, a threat, and no actual device is found, the decision about what action to take rests with the owner or representative of the property, and NOT with the Police. So, as the threat was made against a specific airline, I, in conjunction with the airline's own Bomb Threat Assessor, made our decision about what to do, in line with our training, and told the Police. They disagreed and wanted to do their own thing, but we stood firm and were proven right, and everything was resolved safely, but I'll never forget that day and how it made me felt. Thankfully I was able to concentrate on my training and deal with it professionally, but the police did not make it easy!
  6. There's an understatement... I remember it well too because I worked with hamster, and I was the Manager on call on the night of 9/11... I was off on the actual day, and first became aware of it whilst in the Tempo superstore on Millbrook Road (now Porcelanosa)... seeing it on about 50 tv screens all across the back wall of the store was unbelievable. I was actually buying a small dictaphone because I was then on my way to Staplewood to interview Stewart Henderson and an Academy player because I was writing Academy reports and articles for the Echo at the time. When I got to Staplewood, SH knew nothing of it because he'd just finished training. I told him about it, got my interviews and as I left, the lads were all sat in the canteen down there, watching it. That night, about 0300 in the morning, I got the call from the night security team at the airport which I half expected, with the instructions that had been passed to them from the DoT, on what changes were being made to airport security. I then had to oversee the implementation of those changes, which saw every person and bag searched, and obviously caused chaos for thousands of passengers, but there was an eery mood because no one complained, everyone knew exactly what was happening and why, and many passengers didn't even turn up for their flights. The weeks and months afterwards were similarly chaotic with various changes and tweaks to the security measures. I'll never forget it all.
  7. More than happy. We now need to get them working together and producing results, but I am confident they will do so and that things will improve, but I still stand by my original desire to see us simply consolidate in mid-table this year (anything better is a bonus) and then, once we've got things working, to go for promotion next year.
  8. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1780721,00.html Can't argue with any of that to be honest.
  9. Well i was there and didn't think it was anywhere near as bad as some above... Very frustrating result but i saw a lot more potential and we matched them physically, which we haven't done much of this season. Width and pace are the key things missing, but there was plenty to build on today IMO.
  10. I don't see it as anything other than his own honest assessment. If he was being confident, some would criticise him for setting unrealistic expectations or putting too much pressure on... he can't win, because someone is always waiting to criticise it seems, and that's before the match... Why can't a managers comments be taken at face value for once?
  11. 160 all out. Fair play to England (and the Umpires) for a cracking afternoon.
  12. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1763567,00.html Agree with a lot of that, especially the comments about Morgan and others having ability, but needing to get to grips with the league and the opposition.
  13. Given that the OS had already announced we were in advanced talks, I would put money on him not actually knowing any more than we already knew, hence my comment, and me personally not thinking there was any 'new' news in what he said. I'll assume the last two sentances are sarcasm given my posts elsewere, but just in case... no, obviously I didn't expect him to talk about that, because it was a transfer webchat, not a 'how do you think this signing will affect the team, and how they'll play' webchat.
  14. Don't tempt me.
  15. Wow, insightful...
  16. Agreed. We have always had some quality, but it's simply not been coached and developed properly. We saw flashes last year, but never enough consistent application, hence we are where we are. With Pardew now seemingly working on a variety of things in training and adding some real quality to the squad too, I am confident we'll see a real improvement over the coming weeks and months. Every interview of his that I've seen seems acutely aware of our shortcomings and, more importantly, knows how he wants to deal with it and put it right. That said, there will still be poor performances and bad results, but that's football. Now, more than at any other time in the last few years, really is the time to have some faith IMO.
  17. 'Advanced' talks says the OS, so I fully expect the only things outstanding are formalities. I couldn't see them releasing the news if it wasn't going to happen.
  18. If this is true (and I have no reason to doubt it, obviously!) then he could be potentially the single most important signing we make. Players like him, MAKE the team play football. They create space for themselves, they demand the ball, they keep the play simple, until such time as they spot an opening or can prompt a move. If nothing is forthcoming, they keep possession, but when an opportunity arises, they exploit it. Performences like Huddersfield will still happen, but it's less likely when you have midfielders who want the ball, infact DEMAND it, from the defence, and force the pattern of play. The more I hear, the more I like.
  19. I would suggest it's simply at a stage where whatever is left to do, is considered a formality, so Cortese/Pardew (and I assume Colchester too) are happy for the news to be released.
  20. Another good medium-term signing IMO, like Lambert. Someone who has real quality at this level, and who may even do a good job for us in the CCC if the squad can galvanize and get promoted next year, but who is not too expensive. This policy is exactly right IMO... quality players to help us get out of this division, who have the potential to do will in the CCC, but who ultimately we are not pinning our long-term future on. If they grow with us (like Murty did at Reading), so be it, and we benefit, but we are keeping our powder mostly dry for further signings in the years to come if and when we gain promotion.

  24. Call yourself a mod? You should be upholding forum etiquette, and that means ignoring any original points or questions and taking the thread off on a complete tangent, ideally insulting the OP (and anyone else you don't like) in the process?! You c*ck. I didn't join SaintsWeb for polite on-topic conversation and helpfulness!
