http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/8434270.stm I hate Joey Barton. I think most fans do, because he has done some pretty stupid things. But I can't argue with him here... whether he has changed I dunno, and maybe he'll just turn out to be a hypocrite, but certainly I fully agree with his sentiments.
-
Indeed, I expected to find post after post of denouncers telling me how they hate them! I love 'em too, and haven't tried doing much with them before so I'll take up some of these suggestions when next I cook them.
-
I'll give you £60 and collect it...
-
Lol, well this is true, but alas, I spent too much time trying to get myself to work to worry about them today! Everything should be moving again now so I'm sure he'll get away, if a little late.
-
It's not libel if it's true surely?
-
OK, whatever, how about we just discuss the last 10 years then...

I'm working from home, Millbrook flyover was closed westbound and the traffic on Millbrook Road out of town is solid. Buses aren't running, ice all around my roads (Shirley)... all a bit of a nightmare really!

Held on for the draw, well played Onions at the end.

Key thing no one has mentioned yet is that these companies are playing on the recession and the fact that people are supposedly short of money... with Xmas coming up, their tactic is that people will happily take some money for their gold, to help them get some cash in to buy presents etc, and so are more likely to accept lower prices on the gold. As DSM says, it all comes down to greed - and the unerring intent of some 'entrepreneurs' to profit from other peoples misfortune.
-
LOL! Your hypocrisy is really quite astounding. George, let me say this real slow: I have continually made the point that NONE of us, can ever know for certain what will happen, and that NONE of us can say 100% that the data is accurate or otherwise. Hence my continuing stance, that I feel a precautionary principle is the msot sensible approach. So I ask you again: Given that NONE of us can know for certain, how can you be so arrogantly assured that climate change is NOT caused or influenced by Man?

At what point does anyone think such a sweeping generalisation is in any way helpful?! I could list a whole host of subjects related to the environment, energy production, AGW etc, and whilst a few of us may have exactly the same opinion about every subject, most of us will differ in some way and on some point... so why the need to clump everyone together? If people can't discuss these issues without resorting to colloquial political stereotypes, then what possible benefit is there?
-
As sweeping generalisations go, that one is pretty good.
-
Fair enough, and if people don't want to do it, that's so be it... my point was that those that think it is a good idea often get criticised for wanting to do so or told that they'll look stupid. No high horses here, just an intention that fans actually let fellow fans support their team in the way they would like to.
-
Err, no. Well, I don't anyway, can't speak for everyone else.
-
I have to be honest, I was tempted to do it for those same reasons, but in the end I just thought it was all a bit pointless. The main thing that needs to happen is that the mindless members of the public who spend their money phoning in and voting and then blindly following and buying the single when it is released, need to be shot... erm, I mean 'educated' that they are wasting their lives by following such crap and lining Cowell's pockets in the process. That's my opinion anyway!
-
OK, I've read the opening post again. What now?
-
While I agree with what much of Wilko and you say, to finish with this is a bit of an assumption. We simply don't know anything about this other than the basic facts as disclosed by Ian Murray, but beyond that, nothing. God forbid, it could even be that the telephone calls went unanswered for a perfectly legitimate reason... or maybe not, but I really don't think we should start creating more out of it than we know just yet. I would like more of an explanation from Cortese before I make my mind up about any of it, and in the mean time I remain of the opinion that it's just a shame such a positive story has to be clouded by this event.
-
I know, I've seen your posts long enough to realise that. But there are plenty of people who aren't just taking the mick on here and who have real issues with how people show their support.
-
Because they know best, clearly, and have possession of the 'How to support your football team in an acceptable way' book, that the rest of us have yet to see... We have it all the time... colours, face-paints, fancy dress, now hats. A bit sad really... the criticism that is, not the suggestion. Live and let live.

I promised myself I wouldn't come back to this thread, but here I am. Bottom line seems to be that until we know exactly what the club asked of the Echo, and what the Echo ended up doing (and why), it's nigh on impossible to take this discussion much further.
-
Here's an idea. Don't buy either.

F'ing hell, I seriously cannot believe the amount of posts on this now, and equally I cannot believe how polarised the views are. I don't see NC being 'Pompous'... he obviously has his reasons for his decision, which we're not yet aware of, and I don't see that the Echo are such big villains of the piece, exercising their right to publish information in the public domain. Sometimes I swear it's only Saints fans who would become so polarised over something so trivial.

There cannot be a confidential agreement... the whole point about planning applications is that the public need to know about them, hence they are published and comments are invited from interested parties?!?!
