I've no idea why people are putting the likes of Doyle and Ballard in the team and talking about next season. How is being thumped 5-0 against teams we wont be playing next season, under a manager who wont be here, in any way beneficial? Selles needs to keep putting out the best team he can, as poor as that will no doubt be, and we can regroup properly in the summer.

I'd say Baz looked better than Kelvin ever did at this level and the latter was Championship keeper of the year when we got promoted. All the Pompey fans said Baz was absolute mustard in L1, so I'd be confident in him being able to DAJFU somewhere in the middle.

For me 2009 was rather like now, just fed up of atrocious mismanagement from the boardroom downwards. The first season was a mess, with a disinterested Redknapp at the helm. The first Burley season we just scraped into the playoff and were bettered by Derby, which felt like a huge underachievement after what we spent. 07/08 was just ridiculous, letting Burley trash us financially with his borderline fettish of expensive midfielders and no defence. Then the Poortvliet season was just an acceptance of, 'so we've come to this...' The writing was on the wall from day one that year. Jamie White, Michael Svensson, Tomasz Pekhart, Zoltan Liptak.... hmmmmm.

No we didn’t. Everyone has been well aware, even from the reports before he signed from Torino fans, that he is a limited footballer. He was £6m when decent CBs cost £20m plus, he is the in vogue Florin Gardos or Kevin Danso. His attitude can be a liability when he goes OTT and it can be an asset in being up for a contest and having a bit of character. We will need a bit of this in the Championship. This great clear out people keep talking about… I don’t know who people are expecting to be bringing in but it won’t be the next Virgil. Lyanco is about as good a third choice, Championship CB as you can realistically hope for. Also, I don’t see why his wages would be particularly high. He was signed as cover from a mid-table Serie A team.

With the right management and better players in front of them, I think Lyanco, DCC and Bednarek would do well for us next season. They’re all decent players at Championship level. Baz and Perraud will probably do alright too.

I can’t ever say I’ve felt ‘gut wrenching pain’ and been unable to function at work for several days because of Saints. They’re a football club, not a family member. I will say that I was more affected by it in 2005 than I was this time, mainly because this time just doesn’t hurt at all. We’ve been so miserable to watch for so long that I just can’t see what I’m supposed to be upset about missing out on next season. I’ve pretty much known since Ralph was replaced with Jones that we’d go down, nothing since then has been anything much of a surprise.
