Initially I was against it, my thinking being that the plucky draw at OT or the Etihad becomes less likely if they can just bring on an entirely different, fresh, top class attacking line-up if it's 1-1 after an hour. The flip side of that is that the smaller teams invariably tire first, chasing the game and being out of possession. We can also afford to be a bit dirtier and replace more players on bookings if needs be. Since you mention it, my mum was treated with chemo about ten years ago and lost all her hair. Both our family and her friends would make light of it from time to time, upsetting though it was, as a way of dealing with it. Would I want some gobsh*te taking the p*ss out of her on stage, obviously not, but the point is comedy is subjective. Many celebrities have dealt with much more serious issues than hair loss with grace and good humour, without resorting to violence.

The point about Henry, Suarez etc. is that Rooney was always ‘very good’ and never the best. I’m not denying Messi wasn’t at his best for Argentina but he is one of, if not the greatest players of all time. Somebody summed up Rooney quite well on here once. He’s Stan Collymore, playing at his best for about 12 years, in a world without Shearer, Owen, Sherringham, Les Ferdinand, Andy Cole, Le Tiss and Fowler.
