No, the psychology of playing in front of their own fans is what affected our team. I’ve seen plenty of games where the crowd was nothing but supportive or at worst indifferent to the team on the pitch and the still managed to bottle it. Crowds clearly make a difference, I think the lack of them is encouraging attacking players to take more risks, be more creative and not play it safe so much. This is turn is leading to more goals scored.

There’s a lot of that going on, it seems like teams play with a lot more freedom without the psychological pressure of a stadium full of people. I know the butterfly effect and all that but it was such a shame Villa and Man Utd fans couldn’t see their games 2 weeks ago. I think against a team of £60m superstars there will always be a period of that.

Clearly Ralph thinks Stephens and Vest are the better options right now. To ensure there are no injuries likely to cause long term issues and prevent him from ever playing for us. I’m no doctor or physio but I’d imagine things like serious ligament damage, vision issues and heart murmurs are all checked for. Not sure what you mean about Ings.

Going by the training gallery, he has been back for several weeks now and is apparently training hard to achieve match fitness. I think it’s as much a selection choice at the moment, whilst he learns our system to Ralph’s satisfaction.

Would you not have signed Van Dijk if he’d been injured for 3 months at Celtic?
