Teams getting relegated from the PL and potential signings
Lighthouse replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Saints
I always thought Marshall was a decent enough 'keeper. Not sure he would come here to be number 2 to Boruc but a much better reserve than Kelvin or Gazza. Caulker too from Cardiff. Wouldn't have anyone from Fulham, awful squad. I'd definitely have Bony given chance but I can't see Swansea going down. -
Wanyama at least wont be jet lagged traveling back from Africa and it's only about a 7 or 8 hour flight to Kenya (I'm assuming it was supposed to be played there). I can't see how a few hours watching the in flight entertainment in first class will have taken that much out of him.

USS Vincennes shot down an A300 it mistook for an Iranian AF F14. Was on it's way to DXB actually.
-
Nope. 2 each.

There are plenty of surface-to-air missiles out there which can reach that altitude. It's highly unlikely one would be fired in an area with commercial air traffic but possible and similar accidents have happened before. I believe there was one in the Black Sea about 10 years ago.
-
I doubt that is correct. Flightradar24 is the best flight tracker on the web and the path on there ends well before the flight's last known position. Clear air turbulence isn't going to bring down a 777, it would have to have flown into the core of a thunderstorm cell and I think Malaysian pilots would have enough experience of the weather in SE Asia not to do that. If I had to speculate I would say it was caused by a structural failure/poor maintenance, terrorism or a mid-air collision or shoot down, which authorities are yet to admit.
-
Statistically its got to be the 2nd safest aircraft ever made and the cruise is also the safest periods of flight, so this is quite a shocking incident. Especially as Malaysia is hardly a third world country any more and I would expect the pilots and maintenance to be relatively good. I just hope foul play isn't involved, it would be very bad for the industry.

Hot but it's not a selfie. Sort it out Tokes.

Only really watched (repeats of) family guy too. Wont be missed by me personally although it's not as sh*t as ITV, which I literally haven't watched for a minute since they stopped showing F1 back in 2008. Possibly the occasional football game but even their FA Cup highlights show is crap.

I think it was about this time last year we had an 11 a side match at Flemming Park, after West Brom failed to show up. It got me wondering if there would be enough interest for something similar this year. Supposing we played another match the morning before the Newcastle match on Saturday March 29th, who would be interested in that? Would any of the usual suspects be able to organise shirts and a ref?

I wouldn't say we've hit the ceiling, Everton have achieved more with a limited budget. If we had a decent 20 goal a season man and a better reserve 'keeper we would be right up there with them and Spurs this season. In Lallana, Lovren, Shaw and Morgan we have at least 4 players Champions League quality. Then we've got the likes of Davis, Fonte, Cork, Boruc and Chambers who rarely let the team down. We just need more firepower up front and more consistency in our game.

When Yaya was Wanyama's age he was playing for Metalurg Donnetsk, a bunch of also rans in the Ukrainian Premier League. I can't remember much from Saintsforever back then but I'm pretty sure Mash wasn't on here telling everyone he was world class.

I think Chelsea or Man Utd will throw enough money Shaw's way to turn his head. Most likely Chelsea as Utd wont be able to offer Champions League football (will be a hilariously bitter pill for Utd fans to swallow, when targets start turning them down in favour of Arsenal, City and Liverpool). I wouldn't be surprised if some big clubs came in for Lovren too. Possibly Utd as they need a new defence and Vidic is leaving. If Lallana has a decent WC it will take a lot of money to prize him away. Chelsea, City and Utd are stocked for attacking midfielders. Arsenal will probably prioritise a striker and I doubt Liverpool would pay the asking price after what happened with Carroll. In short, I think he will stay. Guly and the out of squad players will leave. Osvaldo will eventually be sold back to Italy and we will probably lose a good couple of million. I think we will see some mild investment but in cheaper, young players. If I had to place a bet on Poch, I think he will stay. Mainly because I don't think he has done enough to get a big move away.

Wanyama can be a top player one day. If he can work on his composure and passing he can be the next Vieira or Yaya. It's a big if but he certainly has the physical presence for it and he's not just a clogger. With nothing to play for, the end of this season is the best chance he will get to assert himself on the team.

Thoughts on this one. I'm tempted to start with Gaston and Wanyama, just to see how they do. I know JRod looks lost when he is leading the line but so has Lambert recently. I'd be tempted to go with a front 4 of Lallana, Davis, Gaston and JRod.
-
You forgot Nugent. Averaged a goal a game for England before he signed, a true legend.

Was looking for a fairly decent torch to use at work and I came across one for £90 on ebay which could start fires at short range. It is completely unnecessary for my job so I didn't buy it, then one mysteriously turned up in the post a couple of weeks later. Checked my eBay history and it turned out I'd bought it at about 4am whilst steaming drunk after a night out.

If I had to bet I'd say England finish runner up in the group and lose the 2nd round, which would be 4 games. Baines will play pretty much every minute if fit. Shaw wont play. Lallana will probably be an impact sub or if not the first one subbed off if it's not going well. Lambert will probably be throw on with 20 minutes to go if we're losing. JRod probably wont go at all. All in all, I doubt the WC will be too exhausting for Saints English players.
-
Which is fair enough. If you enter a FIFA/UEFA (or anyone else for that matter) tournament, you should have to accept the other countries competing or not take part in it at all. It's hypocritical to say 'hey we want to take part but we don't want to play team X/Y/Z'. If you're in a Muslim country you should respect Muslim laws, so if you're in a FIFA competition you should respect FIFA rules.

So which 7 players wont be going to Brazil from that lot? I'd say: One 'keeper Cole or Shaw Cleverly/Lallana Stirling/Townsend Barkley/Lampard Defoe JRod Jagielka probably going to replace Caulker.

For all of them and us fans. I doubt there is a player in the squad who isn't determines to get these four on the plane to Brazil (not to mention Gaston, Yoshi, Dejan and if Portugal get a couple of injuries, Fonte). We are a team. I doubt people like Osvlado or Kenwyne would give a flying f**k if their team mates go to a World Cup but our team is better than that.
-
Well Cleverly is still in the squad so the bar can't be that high. In fact Cleverly must be wondering just how bad he has to play to get dropped.
-
Fantastic. So proud. Let's pray the Saints all get at least a half each to prove their worth. Will be disappointed if we have to watch another 70 minutes of Cole, Rooney, Milner and Welbeck.
