A serious transfer window review thread...
Lighthouse replied to Unbelievable Jeff's topic in The Saints
Well, that's another thread ruined. Best part of a decade and people still haven't figured it out. ALPINE IS A TROLL He will say absolutely ANYTHING if it gets him some attention. ANYTHING. It doesn't have to make sense, if it is wrong more people will argue with him. How hard is it just to NOT reply to his posts and put him on ignore? Gordon Bennett... -

A decent window as far as I'm concerned. Kept everyone we wanted to keep, signed 3 decent players, got rid of a lot of players who aren't needed. Would have liked a bit more pace and creativity in midfield and it does sound like we at least tried. B+ from me. -
Transfer deadline day thread (Summer 2013)
Lighthouse replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
2002 wasn't bad. Kept Bridge, signed Niemi and Killer. Oh and Kanchelskis... and Marcus Hall for some reason. -
Mayuka Going To Sochaux on Loan (Confirmed)
Lighthouse replied to Glasgow_Saint's topic in The Saints
Will have difficulty replacing all the goals he scored last season... hmmm. Good luck Yukka, come back a better player. -
On holiday or skint because they've just been on holiday, same as every other club every season.

Transfer deadline day thread (Summer 2013)
Lighthouse replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
I don't think we will see any movement at all. We've brought in some decent players, we just need to make them work. We've got enough up front and we're tight enough at the back. There is decent cover in pretty much every position too. Get Clyne and Shaw back in the team and let VW and Ossie get used to our system, we will be alright. -
Personally I think burgundy with a shiny pink boob tube looks quite good.
-
Pace isn't the issue, it's the speed of our play. I didn't see today's game but a lot of the time against Sunderland we just looked laboured, lethargic and predictable. The killer ball is always too late and too easily defended. Poch has work to do.
-
Good luck Dean. Will never forget him getting the party started against Leeds 2 years ago.
-
A bigger club because they won the league twice 30 years ago, perhaps. I'm not sure how that really translates for a modern day player though. I doubt playing in front of an extra 7 or 8 thousand will mean all that much to him and Everton wont be able to offer him Champions League football or extra cash.

I never thought I'd ever say this but Mayuka looks like Marilyn Munroe.

Steve de Ridder has a pop at English football culture
Lighthouse replied to Lallana's Left Peg's topic in The Saints
He clearly isn't sh*t though is he. He just didn't do it at Saints. He was excellent in Holland before he came here and seems to be doing alright since he returned. Why do some people feel the need to slag off a player who always put in maximum effort and chipped in with a few goals and assists. I don't see Billy Sharp volunteering to have his contract cancelled so he can go and play first team football. Or Forte, Martin, Hammond and Lee. I think that says more about Steve's character than anything. Same with Chaplow. -

Maybe if we sign a couple more Jermaine Wrights and Zoltan Liptaks people will stop referring to De Ridder as terrible. I'd say he was a decent enough Championship player, the problem was we had already surpassed his level when he signed and were aiming to win the League. He left to go and play football, rather than sit here and pick up a big fat pay cheque in the reserves. Can't we at least respect that. He's not having a swipe at Saints, just saying he doesn't particularly go for the Premier League lifestyle. -
We don't play with 'out and out' wingers.
-
True, although usually out of shear ignorance. There is nothing wrong with being a small club I don't get why it's used as an insult so much. I just thought a player employed by Crewe would have a bit more respect for 'small clubs' like Saints who only have 32,000 sell outs at most of their games (Yes I know Goodison is bigger). His point about Rooney, Arteta and Lescott doesn't make sense either. The latter 2 were both 23 already when they joined Everton so hardly youth development. If he's claiming them then we can claim Lambert, Beattie and Crouch all getting into the England team.
-
Same team that started at Barnsley. Never change a winning side! Oh all right then but if we make 11 changes from that side and lose at Norwich, do we get fined for fielding a weakened team?
-
Bizarre behaviour. Maybe he was absolutely rat arsed, or it's someone else messing around with his twitter account. Calling Saints a small club doesn't make a lot of sense when you play for Crewe. Neither does saying we are light years away from a club currently below us in the League.

Capital One Cup 3rd Round Draw - Home to Bristol City
Lighthouse replied to lickierambert's topic in The Saints
Bristol away would suit me. -
Just shown the Sunderland goals for the second time in 15 minutes. Now they are 'explaining' the Yeovil game again without any actual footage. Have they not got the rights to show half these games or are they just trying to wind me up?
-
The Championship is over. If anything I think the gap is only going to stretch over the rest of the season. I'm just hoping Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes and Lotus get their act together for next season. Vettel winning the next 5 World Championships would be quite dull.

Post Match Reaction & MotM: SAINTS 1-1 Sunderland
Lighthouse replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
No, he is clearly getting rather 'excited' by Fonte's lovely hair-do. I can't say I blame him, Jose has excellent hair. -
I think it's more that De Ridder just didn't suit out style. We don't play with quick wingers bombing it down the wings, we have skilful wide players who cut inside and overlapping fullbacks. De Ridder had the talent. His touch was decent, his movement excellent and he could finish when he got into a decent position. He just never looked on the same wavelength as the rest of the team. His runs went un-noticed or were always at the wrong time. No he probably isn't Prem quality but he isn't the disgrace some on here make him out to be. He was a nice bloke who tried hard and had the occasional moment of brilliance. Good luck to him.

I would be absolutely astonished if you couldn't. Never in a million years is a LC midweek game away to Barnsley going to sell out.
-
Hardly classic Spa. Makes me not feel so sad that I couldn't go this year.

And now Osvaldo. That should definitely be on the Bingo card IMO.
