  1. He's still got Koeman to come up with though and there should be a couple more signings for alps to get his head around. Best start thinking of some nicknames for Ings, Marshall etc. just in case.
  2. I keep trying to think of a song but just end up with Pelle Pelle Pelle Pelle Pelle Chameleon (as in Culture Club) stuck in my head. Quite irritating TBH. Edit: The best lyric I can come up with (I'm not saying it's good) is: Pelle Pelle Pelle Pelle Pelle from Feyenoord He's gone and scored He's gone and scoooooooored
  3. We've only got 23 players so I can't see how we would be paying 30 of them £30k a week. That includes Gallagher, Reed, Gazza and JWP who wont be on anything like £30k. Mayuka, Sharp and Osvaldo will leave giving us on on the smaller squads and wage bills in the Premier League.
  4. Osvaldo isn't coming back. Too many bridges burned and it's fairly apparent he doesn't want to be here. Recoup what we can from this sorry mess and move on.
  5. You'd think we might have delayed the kit launch so he could model it. I'm slightly dubious at spending a fairly large amount on a 29 year old who has only done it in the NL but I've not seen him play. I will bow to Rokos vastly superior knowledge on this one. Welcome Graz!
  6. We could name the petting zoo after him.
  7. I keep remembering random sh*te players from that period. Like Vincent Perricard, wasn't he good.
  8. You can but if the A340 guys didn't even bother to look out the window, it's unlikely they were checking TCAS either.
  9. I remember that result, almost fondly. I'd just got a base transfer in my job, down to Bristol ironically, and that game was a couple of days before I moved. It coincided with the end of our pain as Saints fans. The next game was at home to Gilingham and we battered them 4-1, since then we went on a run of top 2 form for nearly 3 years, aside from a brief blip when Pardew was sacked.
  10. I think Anthony Pulis has got to be up there with the worst of them. Couldn't even get off the bench when we were at the absolute bare bones, was purely there to make up the numbers. I remember one fleeting appearance in a preseason friendly. He had a shot go out for a throw in and was never seen again. Steven O'Halloran, he was dreadful. I remember Martin O'Neal slating us for not giving him a game and wondering if he had ever actually seen Steven train. Also the club never actually announced that Useless Safri had left. There were some rumours on dodgy foreign websites about him going to the Middle East and then he sort of disappeared and was never mentioned again.
  11. There was another, lesser known, 3-0 home defeat to Watford IIRC. Under Burley, when he played Jermaine Wright at LB and had Euell in front of him as the supposed winger. We had Vignal and Skacel on the bench. I don't think I've ever left a game that angry before, it really was a case of playing Wright at absolutely any cost. Absolutely clueless ineptitude on Burley's part which started me thinking he did genuinely have an alcohol problem. I think that was the game he just sat there like a lemon when we were 3-0 for half an hour, then threw Adam Hammill on with 2 minutes to go. The crowd REALLY got on his back at that point. Clueless manager.
  12. TCAS will not activate bellow 1000ft and in any case the A340 most likely didn't have his in TARA mode on the ground, which would give avoidance commands. No idea who said what on ATC but the crew of that A340 deserve a good slap for crossing an active runway without even a casual glance to see what's coming. It's not a common occurrence but happens from time to time and isn't newsworthy. When I heard on the news that, 'none of the passengers were injured,' I almost died of face palm.
  13. I actually didn't mind some of the players who got heavily criticised during that period. Skacel was clearly a talented player but was badly managed. We never got him fit and ended up playing him out of position. Licka was pretty handy and had an eye for a neat pass, yet Burley persisted with cloggers like Euell and Viafara. Saganowski was a deadly striker in a decent team but poor without decent service. I always felt he was at least trying, despite some people being adamant he only played for a contract. Never rated Safri, thought he was just a passenger. A neat passer but never creative, dominant or energetic. The worst player in that whole era though... Darren Powell. 50p head, Toblerone feet, f**k me he was hopeless.
  14. I think someone mentioned Ashley Cole CDAJFU at some point, he has signed for Roma on a 2 year deal.
  15. I do like Fonte but I wouldn't be all that disappointed if he saw out the last year of his contract and left a free agent next summer. He has been good but he isn't that good. Lovren has made him look better this season in much the same way Killer made Claus look good. Fonte always has a mistake or two in him and I think we can find a better first choice CB. I personally think Yoshida is marginally the better defender and he is 5 years younger. Having said all of that, I do believe the OP to be complete horse sh*t.
  16. I meant the way he had disappeared from the match day squad, as opposed to the training ground all together. Good to see him around but I do not regard him as Premier League quality either.
  17. We definitely need a 'keeper. If, or rather when, Boruc gets injured there is nobody in our squad capable of filling in. Gazza is a long way from being a Premier League 'keeper and I wouldn't be surprised if Kelvin has unofficially retired, the way he seems to have disappeared from the squad. Gazza cost us points last season and just looks like an accident waiting to happen. If we have to make do without Boruc for a couple of months, we really are in trouble IMO.
  18. Jones went on strike in 2007 when Wilde was in charge.
  19. Grieving? F**k me...
  20. If the money was spread out evenly across all the teams there would be no motivation to win it and most clubs would put there reserves out. Nobody would want to watch that, if nobody watches it there is no money and then the whole thing collapses. The fact that there is so much money involved shows that there is a lot of interest in the competition and people are willing to pay large amounts to watch games on TV. It's capitalism. It may not be perfect but it's the best system we can think of.
  21. 27, Osvaldo played for Italy in October.
  22. We do, that's what the qualifiers are.
  23. Every Champion can get through to the Champions League, it's just that most of them are crap and get knocked out in the qualifying rounds. To give you an example of some of the Champions in this years qualifiers Nomme Kalju - spanked 10-2 on agg. by Viktoria Plzen Daugavpils - spanked 11-1 by Elfsborg Sutjeska Niksic - spanked 6-1 by Sheriff Tiraspol Gyor - Lost 4-1 to Maccabi Tel Aviv Ludogorets - Lost 6-2 to Basel These are all Champions of their respective Leagues getting hammered by average teams in the qualifiers. Put them up against the likes of City and Bayern they will get destroyed. Nobody is going to watch it.
  24. That wasn't the question though, Cyclon was suggesting the CL would be better with just the Champions. It's going off topic but I disagree. Do like the idea of a playoff place for the FA Cup winners and a playoff between 3rd-6th in the League for the 3rd automatic place. Would make the League much more interesting for the likes of Saints, Everton, Spuds and Newcastle.
