Yeah exactly this. He was a shadow of the player from the previous 2 seasons, though to be fair many of liverpool’s Players weren’t of the same level.

Wijnaldum didn’t have a good season for Liverpool. he did have a good euros but then by then he was sorted.

He didn’t even make the enlarged England squad, which means he probably has to leapfrog 4 people, with an England manager who is more interested in younger players. It’s a long shot, dependent on lots of factors coinciding. I don’t really buy the home town boy stuff meaning much. If that was true he’d have signed the massive long term contract. At the end of the day he’s a professional looking out for himself.(which is fair enough it’s his career) the big threat to his bosman move is injury in the 2nd half of the season, especially if he’s done ok in first half. So it’s only natural he’ll coast somewhat.

His England chances have gone unless there’s a spate of injuries. i can very much see him going through the motions in the 2nd half of the season, given an injury then would screw him.

If you kick the can down the road 12 months and then have to replace Ings without having generated any money from his sale that seems a much more certain way to weaken the squad.

If he’s not going to sign We really need to get a fee for him now if someone will bid and he’ll go. Letting this drama play out to January where you get a minimal fee or have a halfhearted player for 2nd half of season and no money would not be good.
