  1. It is actually not correcting an error. There is no concept of "case not proven" in English Law. The phrase the CPS used is standard when they do not proceed with an investigation.
  2. I would suspect that there has never been a football game where somebody has not cheated and got away with it. Henry is guilty of getting (obviously) caught on TV, no more than that. Was Mark Dennis, for example, not cheating with his over-vigorous approach to tackling ? Was the Ale House 11 famed for playing within the rules ?
  3. All footballers cheat to some degree, Henry's was just more blatent. Who has never kicked an opponent ? Who has never tugged a shirt ? Who has never appealed for offside / corner / goal kick...etc ? The ref made a mistake, but was unsighted. The linesman looked unsighted Who has ever volunteered that a decision going for them should not have been given ? This thread is a bit too holier than thou in reality, cheating in football is very "shades of grey..."
  4. I did a "corporate" walk around there about 12 years ago or so (I was working for a firm in Pompy). It was a normal (if low rent) walk around the stadium and inner workings routine until we got to the security department. After a quick run through of what he could see through the CCTV cameras and how they kept a general security eye on things, the security supremo closed off his part of the tour with a classic, "yep, I watch everything, except for that crap on the pitch - I follow the team up the road (!)" (True)
  5. ...so what is the difference between belief in god and belief in any number of other superstitions ?
  6. Can't believe no mention of Peter Green
  7. Who ever ventured into the Hampton Park pub in Swaything ? Live music night anyone ? Or the Bassett Social ?

  9. Richard Chorley ????? Always a good read
  10. I suspect braids were "school bespoke." Ours were something like: width = yellow, length = green, 2 lengths = red, 12 lengths = blue. They were manufactured out of the cotton bands our school used to use in lieu of bibs (being a cheap school) ! I do remember the guy "walking" you up the pool with a hoop on a stick...
  11. I was at the Tubes - did the lead singer bring a tv on stage at one point, as it was the night Forest were beating (Hamburg I think) to win the the Europen cup ? Didn't he also get on stage with a motorbike ?? Or was that one too many....

  13. They did a great gig a year or so later at the Locarno, still pretty unsure of themselves - although the keyboard player (Harrison ?) spent a lot of support act (A Certain Ratio ?) time at the bar....
  14. "Administrators do well in times of financial crisis shock horror" Virtually all the firms that do admin work have seen a rise in (admin) business over the past 18 months. [As have HR legal advisories, as have back office outsourcers]. Some administrators are no doubt better than others. Fee rates would range from £600 per day to over £3K per day I'd doubt if BT are charging anything other than market rates If there is fault here, it is with the "selection of administrator" process.
  15. What exactly did Hoddle do wrong last time he was here ? We didn't lose too much We didn't get relegated I didn't see any player walk outs ...we're a fussy lot
  16. Remove 1 dud manager and replace with somebody with a semblance of a clue Insert one new goalkeeper, one new centre half, one new centre mid
  17. Murty will be perfect. Experienced. A leader. And Bright. Ticks at least 3 boxes that 80% of the rest of the shower don't
  18. It was during a mid week win over Man U - probably the "end of Ron Atkinson" league cup hammering during the 80's The united full back (can't remember who), backed up to the advertising hordings / fence to take a throw in and some mush lent over and pulled his shorts down from behind (prior to doing this he gave a thumbs up to the "up touchline" TV camera). Classic
  19. Do they not still answer to "Swaythling Athletic ?"
  20. GM is pretty much right here. All he has done is basic DD. do not under-estimate the incompetence of administrators in performing proper DD on potential suppliers - magnified by the tight timeframes. Fry will not have an army of people working on his behalf on this deal.
  21. Davis's Hotel. Very quiet, good beer.
  22. Any "W" hotel. I think there are two in NY.
  23. ...the fact is that under Hoddle we never got relegated. All else is opinion.
  24. That's a bit strong. When I did my coaching badges I was talking with the FA assessor who's view of Hoddle was that he was one of the best coaches around. I asked about the "does not get on too well with players..." issue/rumour, and was told that in terms of training ground communication, innovation and attentiveness he was exceptional.
  25. ... a reputation in Nl for never being at fault for anything... In Dutch culture that is probably more of a black mark than in the UK He said, for what it's worth, that Jan, in NL, (managerial ability notwithstanding) was always viewed as decent person.
