Lovely story. Just shows that, despite what some may think and say, not all footballers are greedy selfish people. Good honest guys at our club. Lovely gesture from decente people. Hope Ben is on the mend.

I'll second the Rickie goal vs MK Dons away in March 2010, when we won 3-0 and he got a hat trick. It was the third goal (near the half way line) Also James Beattie vs Chelsea away in 2004 I think. He scored past Cech from the half way line after 12.5 seconds. At least we led for some time at least...

I would keep Harding as cover at left back because he has played a major part for us in the last few years. You cannot seriously be saying that we should offload Guly and Hammond in the summer, both of who started todays game? I know teams need to evolve but I would feel somewhat sad if the summer brings a lot of departures for players who have contributed and helped us get promoted this season and last. Obviously signings need to be made, but nothing too major this summer.

I was there and we had a team filled with most of our current team but with no confidence or idea of how to win football matches and play effective football. He has been wonderful for Saints. Thank you Nigel.

Totally agree.

Butterfield Signs New One Year Deal
Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Butterfield was outstanding last night. Put some greats balls up the front two and looked calm in defence. That's all I'll say. Has certainly taken his chance. -
No he's just expected to work. We won't be getting any miracles from him, that's for sure.

De Ridder is rubbish. End of. "Has loads of pace and ability", doesn't use it though. Anyone disagreeing is deluded because of his goal at reading. A big ego, not a big player.
-
Obviously Bale would play now but not as a left back. Can't defend at all but obviously a talented winger. Fonte and Jos seem to have the centre back understanding and partnership that Claus and Killer Svensson had under Strachan. I think management is the key though. Adkins has got us the team spirit needed to do well in this division, Burley had a team of individuals that looked like individuals which showed by how many moved onto other clubs.

Is the reading game sold out? - answer: yes!
Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod replied to Roger's topic in The Saints
Sold Out! on OS now. -
He was super, held the ball well and linked up excellently with Rickie and the rest of the midfield. He is just the sort of player you need at this stage of the season. A real battler. The whole team was excellent. A special mention to Billy, Cork and Lala, who worked their socks off. Defence was also immense, Butterfield especially.

Weekend Predictions for the top 3
Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod replied to Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod's topic in The Saints
At least you're optimistic.... -
On Friday: Reading v Leeds (2.00pm) - Live on Sky Sports Barnsley v West Ham (5.15pm) - Live on BBC Saturday: Saints v Pompey (1.00pm) Another big weekend in the Championship, where a win over Pompey would put us on the brink of promotion with over 80 points. Friday could also be defining as Reading host Leeds, knowing a win would take them top, for a day at least, and West Ham know they have to win at Barnsley. I'll be glued to my TV watching both these games intently, obviously supporting the two yorkshire clubs. My predictions: Reading 2-2 Leeds Barnsley 1-2 West Ham Saints 3-0 Portsmouth What do you guys reckon?

Just a bad day at the office
Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod replied to Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod's topic in The Saints
They weren't lulling, they are just that bad. We just had an off day but im sure we will put it right next week. -
It was a poor performance from Saints yesterday, on a day when we missed Rickie (who wouldn't?) and psychologically knew that a defeat would do us no harm in terms West Ham making up ground because of their defeat. Every team has off days. Just look at Man Utd, they are top of the league but have been beaten 3-0 away at Newcastle and at home to Blackburn, so everything is relative. To be fair to the players, we haven't had many off days this season and that is why we are top. We are still top, still 6 points ahead of the play-off places and in a position that every team in the league would swap with at the drop of a hat. Get Rickie fit for next week and get the 3 points and all will be forgiven for a bad day at the office. Draw a blue line under it and move on because promotion is in our hands! Great support yesterday from our fans, a credit to the club. COYR.

This guy is a total plonker who has obviously no clue about Saints, probably hasn't even left college yet.

I'll say it again. We will not finish in the top 2!
Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod replied to Cestrian Saint's topic in The Saints
Jump off a bloody cliff then if our season is going to be so bad. Honestly some people are just glory seeking arrogant know it alls. We have performed well this season and are still in the top two with a lot of players out. We have the chance to strengthen now but lets be a bit better than this as supporters because it doesn't look good when supporters turn on their team especially when we are second however bad the performance was last night and it was bad. -
There is more to life than Gary flaming Hooper
Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod replied to AndyD's topic in The Saints
For a frontman he does, and no it's not stereotyping. If thats what came into your head when I said that then it you who has that sort of problem. Anyway would be good regardless of his 'stereotypical' lack of pace.
