  1. How on earth would local authorities profit from these fines ?
  2. Hoo bloody ray, somebody with sense !
  3. It'll be close but Saints should stay up - Norwich, QPR, and Reading for the drop.
  4. If this forum were a democracy; on the US model we would have the choice between a centre-right candidate and an ultra right-wing one, ( any centre-left option being dismissed as a 'commie' ), and the mod with the largest election budget would win on the back of a massive negative advertising campaign. On the UK model, the candidates would focus on making promises they have no intention of keeping to the 20% of 'swing' posters on marginal threads that will get them 'first past the post' with 45% of the vote.
  5. I would think that this has very little to do with Islam, and an awful lot to do with ancient tribal customs and the fact that she has openly stood up to and provoked the Taliban. As with all religions, Islam is open to a wide range of interpretations, and generates it's own brand of nutters - you certainly wouldn't get this sort of activity in Turkey or Bosnia for instance.
  6. Dalek, over to you.
  7. That rules Redkrapp out then.
  8. "We're they Adkins choices?" One for the Grammar Police ?
  9. At least you seem to understand the meaning of irony.
  10. And even if he was, I would contest the question !
  11. Alps, I'm sure you're a very nice bloke, but you display a marked 'glass half empty' personality on this forum. January probably won't be the start of an 'amazing' transformation, but what we actually require at that time will depend on where we are and how the squad has settled ( hopefully ) over the next 3 months. At the start of the season I think many people had unduly optimistic ambitions, especially once the fixture list was published. We currently find ourselves 1 place above the relegation slots, and if at the end of the year that's where we finish I believe it will have been a good season, though I hope we will be higher up the table. In January we will need to swap out a couple more of our NPC standard players, and replace them with something better, but we won't be the only team chasing them, so we need to be firm in our resolve in nailing down our targets ( and hopefully they won't get poached next time by Man Utd ). As for actually identifying them, I'm not sure we on here would get it right if we listed the names - how many of us would have named Ramirez or Yoshida as a viable target back in June ? But I am sure that NA hs told NC who he would prefer, and NC is clear as to how much he is willing to spend.
  12. The 'miracle' of January 2013 - Alpine Saint will start a "positive" thread ?
  13. No. ( And also an emphatic NO!!!!! to the option of ever having Redknapp back. )
  14. It's amazing how many people have got crystal balls and KNOW, after the final whistle, that in any particular game a specific decision by the manager 'cost' us. NA had his reasons for the decisions he made, he's the manager and it's his call. Hindsight is a wonderful critical weapon, unfortunately football managers are not granted a similar amount of foresight to be sure that what they are doing will have the desired effect.
  15. Should have been won by half-time, midfield were missing for large parts of the second 45.Don't think you can actually blame Jos for the goals, but somewhere on his summer holiday he must have wiped out a whole flock of albatrosses: 2 pens and 2 OGs so far this season.
  16. "No Avram, not again. Please, I'm tired."
  17. But a damn sight more convincing than watching a US M3 half track 'pretending' to be an Sdkfz251 in 'land war' films. On the subject of war films, this afternoon I watched one of the very best war films ever made - Zulu......... ( Michael Caine speaking after the first assault "We must of got 60 of them!", Ardendorf the Boer in reply "Well that only leave 3940 more to go". )
  18. Not to mention those signatories with *.pompey@wessexleague.co.uk email addresses
  19. Is that Durham. Geordie, Wearside, or Teesside
  20. From a Liverpool Echo article last year : "One national newspaper report today detailed the club’s new loan, but club officials say it is a rolling agreement which has been part of their finances for more than four years and was clear to see in their last set of accounts. And they say the interest rates they have agreed with Vibrac will actually save them money compared to the terms offered for renewal by Investec and other banks. Borrowing against TV income for the following year is not uncommon among top flight football clubs, and the club’s latest loan has been approved by the Premier League. 21. Nah ! Can't have sensible posts on a conspiracy thread.
  22. Regardless of whether you are concerned by this or not, is there anything you can do to affect it ? The club isn't 'ours', it's at best a business run for the shareholders, at worst a plaything for a swiss banker. All the angst on this thread amounts to nothing, other than to give the phew something to sn!gger about on POL.

    Torture

If not, what is the point of ITV2 ?
  24. I think back to back promotions skewed the 5-year plan.
  25. Is there any evidence that we have ever been 'bankrolled' by Marcus's estate ? If the family are as financially astute and conservative as is repeatedly stated, then why would they, or the estate, present an open chequebook to a football club ?
