As you rightly say, it was precisely a reaction to the events back at the start of the year and even looking back on what I said then, it looks quite a grounded and reasonable position to hold, based on the information on Pochettino that was in the public domain at the time. Why did Misguided quote my post without the context? Two reasons. Firstly he doesn't like me, so in his very small-minded way he relished the opportunity to score points against me. Secondly, he likes to show what a clever clogs he is for being one of the few who felt themselves justified in deciding (without any particular basis of fact) that Pochettino would do a better job as manager than Adkins. When he singles me out, he should also acknowledge that 95% or so other posters on this forum thought that the dismissal of Adkins was the wrong decision at the time. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

He wants to avoid the sort of scenario summed up beautifully here:- Alternatively, his interpreter who is a personal friend of his has a work visa to assist Pochettino here and needs to be here 2 years to qualify for indefinite leave to remain, so still some time to go before he reaches that stage.

Lallana's has to be a contender for goal of the month, surely?

Post Match Reaction: SAINTS 4-1 Hull City
Wes Tender replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Quite possibly the best first half performance this season, shading even the Fulham one in my opinion. Great that Hodgson was there and he must have felt vindicated in choosing Lambert, Rodriguez and Lallana for the England squad, as all put in good performances, particularly Lallana, who probably played as good a gamae as I've ever seen from him, so man of the match by some distance. But Clyne, Shaw and Ward-Prowse must also have caught his eye too. The only below par performance came from Wanyama, who was guilty of some sloppy play to lose the ball which led to Hull's goal, as well as a few poor passes and getting bullied off the ball by Huddlestone on more than one occasion. Tactically Pochettino got it spot on substituting him after their goal, as for a short spell it seemed that the lift it gave them might have led to further goals unless we tightened up the midfield. Davis and Cork are just the sort of experienced players to do this and once they were in their stride, we contained them well and looked capable of scoring more goals. Oswaldo showed some very neat play in his short cameo and even without Lallana and Lambert, we were capable of fashioning several opportunities to threaten Hull's goal. The really neat interplay that resulted in Davis' goal shows how good we have become up front and it was also encouraging that the four goals were each scored by different players. It is great to go into the International break so full of confidence before we begin a run of more difficult matches against the other top teams. On the early season form so far, I really don't think that we fear playing anybody, especially as we have beaten Liverpool and drawn at Old Trafford and for the first time in many years, even if we are not feared by the likes of Chelsea, City and Arsenal, at the very least we have earned their respect. We are capable of beating them all on our day and once we have played them, we will be able to make a more accurate assessment of quite how far we have come. It will be lovely watching Match of the Day and no doubt there will be a debate on Hodgson's selection of our players and whether he will be vindicated. Also, a warm pat on the back for Lawrenson for getting the result right, if not the score. -
King & I Thai Restaurant - High St Southampton
Wes Tender replied to Golactico's topic in The Lounge
My sources tell me that they sold it because like many Orientals, they like to gamble and had to sell to settle debts. But in my opinion, Sara's was the better Thai food. I slso hear good reports of the one in the Precinct, Chandlers Ford. Also the new one in Jewry Street, Winchester sounds promising. -
What is this twitter you speak of?

Did you pass up the opportunity to wind him up by mentioning the players in their team that you thought we should buy? And then you could tell him that on reflection you didn't think that they would add anything to what we already have. And if there are several players in our team that he thinks they should buy, then surely the implication is that they are better than what they have in those positions, so why will they rip us apart when they play our team containing those players? They couldn't beat us last January under Adkins, and arguably we are changed for the better more than them since. And to finish, you could point out that the days of Saints acting as Arsenal's academy are now over and that Wenger would have to realise that and begin looking elswhere.
-
There are several players who would receive quite substantial bids. To 9-3's list Wanyama has probably added some value to his purchase price already and Schneidelin has been mentioned as a player that could star in a top team's midfield. It isn't a question of rose-tinted glasses; it's an acknowledgment that the price will be determined by factors like us not needing to sell and demand from multiple purchasers interested in the players bidding against each other

What? Shooting over the bar into row Q?

Can we have details of the above, please?

Giordano posts quite a lengthy critique of why Ramirez might be having problems adapting to not only the English game, but also how we want him to play to fit our style. And your reponse is just two words rubbishing the entire post. Was it all rubbish, or only parts of it? Which parts? What do you think the reasons are that he is finding it difficult to adapt? Do you think that he would be better suited to playing for Arsenal? Come on; let's hear the reasons for your disparaging response, if you have any. Or is it that you're just not capable of expressing yourself in a more cogent manner?
-
And another thing; when the name is announced of a rival team's substitute, we should desist from shouting out "who?" It shows a total lack of respect, but also illustrates the lack of knowledge that we have about football, not knowing the names of players of other Premiership teams.
-
No. You're the one who has missed the point. Where are those threads on our forum about those players? And why would we have threads about those three on our forum anyway? It isn't as if they are better players than we already have here despite shining in one game against us, so from that point of view, they're unremarkable to us.
-
I don't recall us having threads on any of those players. Could you please provide a link to them? Or perhaps you didn't read what I wrote correctly. I could furnish you with a very long list of players who have played well against us going back a couple of decades if I could be bothered, but I am hard pressed to remember many threads featuring any of them as the exclusive subject of the thread.
-
Who has been a player for another team outstanding enough to warrant a thread on our forum? We readily acknowledge the contributions made by stand-out players in matches against us and also identify those who have been good buys for other teams, like Michu. If Stoke wish to praise players of ours in separate threads on their forum, then good for them. It seems that the reason they did it was because they recognised that our academy had produced some exceptional players over the past few years. But then Stoke are only talking on their forums about something that the wider media have written articles about. What is telling, is who it is that is calling it arrogant to express the opinion that we would have expected to beat Stoke. Turkish, Barry and Glasgow. Hardly the trio of posters whose opinion on such things will be taken that seriously.

It's right up there with the opinion that Norwich have showed the ambition that we lacked by buying in all those World class players instead of the dross we bought, eh, Barry?
-
I bet you wish that you were a bit more circumspect in the way that you phrased your thread now and your only defence is not to admit that you were wrong, but to try and deflect some of the derision by a lame attempt to compare Norwich's flops with two of our players. Ramirez of course, wasn't even bought in this last transfer window. The really funny thing is your assertion that perhaps Norwich were going for the 4th spot instead of us, when after a quarter of the season, we are pretty well in that position and the super astute spending Norwich are flirting with the relegation places.

We've beaten Liverpool away and drawn against United away. Why shouldn't we give Arsenal a fright too?
-
We showed character to come back from that freak goal, but from the sounds of it retribution was just, as Begovic was beaten by a freak goal from us too, where both keepers were deceived by bounces affected by the wind. Conditions like that don't favour the more cultured teams like us. Ultimately we can be pleased with the point, as Stoke had their chances to have scored a couple of goals except for a great save by Boruc and a miss by Shawcross which would have been easier to have buried, whereas we also had a similar bad miss and a penalty shout. Our players certainly appealed, but Solent opined that it might have come off the player's knee, which was close to his hand. Seemingly we also appealed to the ref on a few occasions where Stoke employed their usual bully boy tactics with tackles from behind which the referee didn't punish. Tactically, I'm not convinced that Pochettino called it right, bringing off Rodrigues for Ramirez, as following the change Stoke were more threatening and Ramirez added nothing much. I am beginnig to grow more convinced with each passing match that Ramirez just doesn't bring anything extra to the team if he can't play the pressing game that we rely on. Give him a few outings in the Cup matches and see if he produces something positive, otherwise I don't see him getting into our first eleven unless he bucks up his ideas. He is a player that promised so much, but has failed to deliver so far. At least we are a point closer to Chelsea and it is good that two other close rivals play each other tomorrow with Spurs v Everton.

Half of them are made in Romania. Why spend so much for something made in what is virtually a third World country? Admittedly though the Italian stuff they have has a bit more cachet.
