  1. It would be great for Cork and Wanyama to prove they can play together but I really don't see the point in playing all three unless we're parking the bus away from home. Schneiderlin might be able to go out as a more attacking player but he won't be better at it than Davis or (you'd hope) any signing we might make. Much better to play the strongest two in the centre and get a natural attacking player in ahead of them. Schneiderlin can contribute more goals and assists from the position he plays now, he's done it in patches before.
  2. It really doesn't. I fully expect us to bring a natural left back into the squad next season if Shaw stays, be that Targett, a new signing or both.
  3. What does this mean!? (Answer: bugger all)
  4. Let's see if I can count... Lallana, Shaw, Chambers, Ward-Prowse, Gallagher, Reed, Isgrove, McQueen, Stephens, Rowe, Sinclair and Targett is 12. Fairly sure they've all been in but only the first half have got more thna a couple of minutes on the pitch. Has Turnbull been in a squad? EDIT: Targett is the eighth academy player to be used in a Premier League squad this season and will be the seventh to play if he comes on
  5. I assume it'll work in the same way it did when we played Osvaldo and Lambert together, or when Gallagher's come on before. A sort of narrow 4-4-2 with Lambert coming deeper than normal if we're passing short, and both on the back four if playing long. It didn't work with Osvaldo but we'll see.
  6. Wanyama, Cork and Gallagher all start and Targett makes the bench. Looking forward to this!
  7. I assume they struggle to understand Lallana's qualities because nobody's ever compared him to Beckham or Scholes.
  8. No, because chav is a slur on the working class Anyway...Southampton Football Club.
  9. I think the strangest part of that comment is the assumption that Lallana is some kind of tough-tackling heavyweight and his restraint would give Everton an advantage of any sort. As usual the GOT preview piece is superb
  10. I think Wigan is a decent call as well. Rosler seems to know how to get his players going for the big occasions, and they're all used to Wembley by now. Assuming Bournemouth are out of contention I hope it's either Derby, who really deserve another crack at it and have some great players, or Brighton for the away day.

  14. At least they've signalled their intent to buy players, which is what you've been whining about the most recently. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Steady on! He's not going to Real Madrid, is he. Unless he scores a hat trick every game as England storm into the final it'll be one or two top English clubs max. Chelsea, City and Arsenal don't need that type of player, for a start.
  16. I can see why you don't find it as exciting as trophy-chasing, but if you really find this dull I'm not sure how you've managed being a Saints fan over the years. What did you enjoy about the Championship years that you don't now? Obviously it's heightened if we're chasing something or fighting relegation, but I feel the same way after every win and every defeat. I'll be the same on the last day of this season, even if our final league position's decided long before.
  17. His mouth says Guly Do Prado, but his eyes say Julie Andrews
  18. Can't believe some of the stuff you lot are spouting about Ward-Prowse. He's got serious quality. One of the best crossers in our team, and not just from dead balls.
  19. I expect we'll have another round of contract negotiations next season, once the squad's settled and everyone knows their place in it. Cork and Clyne will need assurances about their importance to the team before they sign on again.
  20. We raise them well, that's for sure. There are some players who will inevitably end up elsewhere if they deserve to be fighting for elite honours, but very few will jump ship at the first opportunity. They know this is the best place to be for a young player. I don't think it's fair to say they're a new breed, though. There are plenty of good, honest professionals throughout the league pyramid. It's just nice to see so many of them at our club!
  21. Reed explained his role in great detail. He's the football man, the one who deals with transfers and works with Pochettino on a day-to-day basis. Krueger is focused on commercial expansion. What on earth would he have to say that Reed couldn't say with more authenticity?
  22. Shaw doesn't have the goal threat that Bale had when he was with us, but he can work on that. Lord knows Bale has - he was full of natural talent but he's only the player he is now because he worked on the right aspects of his game and worked damn hard. If Shaw does the same he might make an attacker, but he's shorter and stockier than Bale. Not quite the same type.
  23. They'll be competing in years to come, but there's no chance Flanagan's a better player now. He's looked very good but only over half a season of Premier League football while Shaw has done it consistently for almost 60 games now. Shaw is much more of an attacking threat.
  24. 8.5/10. Taken entirely in isolation this season's been a 7/10 but it's our willingness and ability to improve on it going forward that makes the difference. The only happier fans will be at Liverpool, Hull and Everton. Palace will also be delighted with how they've ended up but nobody knows what might happen to them next season.
