I'll take that. Amazing how Stoke have flown under all of our radars. Where's Mark Hughes' manager of the season nomination?

MNF Team of the Season - Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher
DuncanRG replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Shaw has not been the best left back of the season, not by a way. Not enough end product for an attacking full-back. People (especially media and Saints fans) conflate his potential and ability with his actual performances at the moment, before all that potential has been fulfilled. Baines, Kolarov and probably Azpilicueta ahead of him. We can still be delighted with him though, it's been another season of incredible progress. I agree with their team besides that and Sterling (Lallana). Would also consider Jagielka at centre half if we're not considering strength of a partnership. -
Could be anything - sponsorship, new kit, new contract for Pochettino, new range of pies at St Marys...
-
And that's all that needs to be taken from it Unless that pandering makes its way into the Conservative manifesto and faith starts influencing policy...

I wouldn't worry, no one's gonna buy him

You don't turn down the chance to manage Manchester United

What a shambles. The club will be embarrassed about this for decades, and rightly so. Hope the fans and media maintain scrutiny on them and don't think all is well now Moyes is (seemingly) off.

You're right about that! Still sick to the stomach over the Mail on Sunday's foodbank sting yesterday.
-
Believe it or not, the Daily Mail is not the first paper to have comment pages.
-
It's coming from Adam Blackmore. He knows more about Southampton than any of us.
-
Believe me, they don't. The vast majority of football journalists I've met like us and want us to do well. Mmm, something funny going on there.

I'd be interested to know whether Southampton still formally object to FFP. We know Cortese did and can see how it got in the way of his plans, but the new board might see it differently. If I remember correctly we were one of three clubs to object, the others being Chelsea and Fulham. Some of the smaller clubs in favour doubtless lack ambition to climb and are happy to sell and stay in midtable, but I'd be interested to see why Everton (a club who face financial barriers to breaking in) didn't object. (Can I also note that his name is Martin Samuel, not Samuels?)

Aye but there was another.

You've got to worry for a guy who thinks we would sign John Terry if it weren't for Financial Fair Play regulations.

Pacier than Lallana and Rodriguez?

I'm taking the final batch of exams for my NCTJ Diploma (National Council for the Training of Journalists). 120 words per minute shorthand, sub-editing/design and a portfolio. Hopefully those are the last I'll ever do. Good luck to everyone preparing for something!

There is no point whatsoever. Sadly I've been just as guilty in the past, but at least I've got a brew for Match of the Day.

I heard a few chants on the stream. Support's been fairly tame all season though, with a few exceptions.

+++Make a cup of tea instead of biting on this post+++ EDIT: Alas, I'm too late...

Important point which doesn't get enough airing is that we don't know how much money the Liebherrs have or are willing to spend, and never have since they took over. All we know is what they've spent in the past, plus bits and pieces from quotes which don't say anything clear. They could shell out £100m in the summer for all we know, or they could not spend a penny.

Off the top of my head... Most (not all) England games - particularly the Moldova game as noted above, and vs Sweden at the Euros vs Bayern Munich at Old Trafford, in very difficult circumstances vs Real Madrid at the Bernabeu last year Both games against Swansea this season When they beat Villa 3-0 a few months ago + plenty of good performances for Sunderland There are more. He's far from the finished article but he's hardly had a good run of starts in his career. Not since he was at Sunderland, if memory serves. I'd give him a go if the price is right and we judge him to be a suitable character.
-
He's had a lot of injury problems, and he's actually progressed remarkably well even through that. Proved himself worthy of a central berth in one of the league's best midfields and scored some important goals. Give him a clear season fitness-wise and he'll be one of Arsenal's best players. He'd certainly give Lallana a run for his money if he came to us. On Astori - why is he still at Cagliari? I remember their chairman was very demanding but you'd think if he was that much cop a move would have materialised somewhere. They're a tiny, tiny club.
-
I imagine he was told to hold back and protect us from Villa's counterattacks and Agbonlahor in particular. Clyne has strong attacking instincts and wasn't short on confidence when he did get up there. Shaw didn't have quite the same brief but, as we saw, Albrighton caused him a few problems.
