  1. Forster or Handanovic would be terrific. Not sure I'd take any of the attainable keepers in the PL, Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Do you guys really mind Pompey getting some money? As long as we're better than them I don't really care, and I'd certainly not want them to disappear completely.
  3. Well, take the offside on Saturday. They all know by now that they got it horribly wrong. What good is it putting them in front of cameras? All it will do is humiliate them, undermine their authority and shatter their confidence. I'm sure it's hard enough knowing you've got something wrong without having to justify your actions to a baying media.
  4. I'm rooting for them to win the league, and it would certainly be nice to finish the season as the only team who beat them there. They were out of sorts that day, mind.
  5. TV picks up a remarkable number of errors and (unlike some penalty/card decisions) don't take long to spot. Why not iron them out? One problem that's just occurred to me is offsides which are wrongly given when a player would go clean through, or otherwise have a good chance of scoring. Take Sanogo today as an example. Not sure how you'd fix that...
  6. I mentioned that - if it can be done without interrupting the game, then of course. It's about ensuring as many correct decisions as possible without any interference in play. At the moment it's not possible to cover everything. As I see it, the only problem with covering some decisions but not others is that it might incentivise certain ways of playing. I can't quite imagine how or if that would play out, though.
  7. It's not random or arbitrary, it's when a goal is scored, a penalty is given or a red card is issued. There are two reasons for that: 1. Goals, penalties and red cards matter more than anything else 2. Those situations already involve breaks in play Intervening when a penalty or card is not given would require a break in play that would not otherwise be there, which is the main reason people oppose technology. EDIT: Thinking about it, it would make sense to add red cards, so I have done. Similarly important and also attached to breaks in play. I'd say that, combined with existing goal-line technology, would cover the majority of key decisions.
  8. It's not perfect but it's better. You'd rather have no wrongly given penalties and some wrongly waved away than some of each. It may favour defenders over attackers but it would also significantly reduce diving.
  9. Or rather - 'this ref is prone to human error - let's make sure'. Arbitrary? That's when it matters most and when it will least disturb the flow of play. If the time it takes to work it out is a problem, you could set a limit. Referees only get a couple of seconds in games, so a fourth official with 10 or 20 or more (and ability to pause/replay) will be an improvement at no cost to the game's flow.
  10. Yes and yes. One or two might leave, but most will stay. Some will come in. Nobody knows any of this for sure but that's my belief. We're eighth in the league. Is this not as high as we can go before we reach the 'ceiling'? Has the manager not done well to take us as high as anyone possibly can?
  11. But it's fair to say that you've been really unlucky if you have to field your third choice. The fact that we would struggle to name the third choice at other clubs suggests that two is almost always enough. Gazzaniga is probably the worst keeper who's played in the league this season, but that doesn't make him worse than every keeper in a Premier League squad. Most third choices don't get close to playing because it's so rare for the first two to be injured at the same time. The reason to worry is that Kelvin won't be around for much longer, so Gazzaniga will be second choice unless we bring someone in.
  12. Yes. It's also a statement which you said didn't exist. Football clubs don't have to declare their intention to buy players months ahead of time. They rarely do. What we have been told is encouraging. Nowhere to be seen. I assume this pleases you.
  13. "[W]e are in a position where we do not need to sell any player Mauricio wants to keep." ~ Hans Hofstetter
  14. I suppose it's partly down to the differences between Everton today and that Chelsea team. Perhaps Drogba would have made more play for others had Martinez been his manager. Still, Drogba was a big defensive presence at set pieces etc, and Mourinho demands that from his attackers.
  15. He's not really a Drogba type. People see tall, black and in a Chelsea shirt and assume that. He is less aggressive aerially, more involved in build-up play and far less capable of tracking back and defending. That last part, I think, helps to explain why Mourinho doesn't want him. Same reason he let Mata go.
  16. It would be simple enough to give the fourth official a screen or tablet so they can review penalty decisions or offsides which lead to goals. I don't think there's any need for challenges, because they would only be made in situations which result in goals, i.e. situations where there's already a break in play. It would also stop players mobbing and intimidating officials when they make controversial decisions. Only managers and the odd full back would give the fourth official stick.
  17. Is he better? Totally false to suggest it can't get worse than Gazzaniga. All that would come from going and picking a teenager is we risk shattering two young players' confidence instead of one. Boruc will be back for next week anyway, by the looks of things.
  18. There's no point resting players, but if we're comfortable with time to spare I'd like to see a few more academy boys on the field. Fancy Gallagher to get a goal if they defend as badly as they have recently.
  19. On the plus side it means more opportunities for Ward-Prowse and/or Ramirez.
  20. At various points they have been looking at Morgan, Shaw, Lallana, Reed and Lovren according to the Mirror. I'm sure plenty of clubs have. Why oh why do football fans keep misreading transfer stories as declarations that moves will go through?
  21. Not a great fan of the club but pleased for Nigel. Hope he holds onto his job if things start looking grim for them next year.
  22. I think we'll look very, very good next season. Hopefully we'll be better able to cope with injuries, if indeed we get problems like we had this year. Interesting table but invalid statistically. For it to tell us what we want to know you'd need some weighting for total number of players and their significance to the team, ie first XI/matchday squad or not. Crystal Palace have the biggest squad in the league and I'd imagine Arsenal aren't far behind. It would also help to add points when injuries put 2 or more starting players out for a game. Where's it from?
  23. Chambers at serious fault for two of the goals - three if you include the offside one, when the whole defence froze.
  24. You have very little faith in our ability to hold onto players. Nobody knows exactly what will happen but chances are it'll look much, much brighter than you're anticipating. I mean, we'd have to lose the entire first XI to build from scratch.
  25. Literally nothing will happen (He did do one with the OS in the summer) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
