Very optimistic but not entirely out of the question. Would be a remarkable achievement for the season

Does anyone know what happened to the car they bought for Osvaldo? Waiting for Matt Targett to be old enough for driving lessons?

We can beat Spurs next week but it took a masterclass from Koscielny and Mertesacker to keep them out today. Lovren and Fonte will have to be on top of their game and we can't afford to concede much of the ball like Arsenal did today. If we leak a goal I'm not sure we have the grit to recover fully and Ward-Prowse could struggle in the middle either way. But Spurs play a very high line and aren't master passers at the minute. Keep the pressure up and we can nick a few breaks. Rodriguez through the middle again for me and Clyne kept in at right back.

No one's going to try to change our name.

His long passes to the wings were worse. ...but not true either way.

To be fair it's been a while since Carroll has played an international so I can't remember how referees treat him, haha. Like I say, Carroll would have to lay the league to waste from now to earn his place. He probably won't. Good point on the Welbeck link-up as well, that was encouraging.
-
And credit to him for that. Can't believe a Saints fan would accuse him of relying on the old guard - he's given first caps to four of our players!
-
To be clear I meant the team effort after the goal rather than Guly's header specifically!
-
Guly was probably sillier for trying a showboating outside-of-the-foot pass when there was a simple sidefoot in front of him.

Should saints break the bank in the summer for a striker ?

Pinch of salt as always, but that does sound like Mourinho. Trading promising youth for established class. Costa would be an exceptional signing for them. If Lukaku goes we'd be in a bidding war. That might work to our advantage if Everton get outpriced, but I could imagine almost every team in the league being interested. Wouldn't be easy! -
If all three players were fit and in form I'd take Carroll. That fourth striker is going to be used as an option off the bench to test tired defenders and change the attacking approach - and they might be thrown on if we're desperate for a goal in the last ten minutes. Carroll has the brute force to make that work. While it's nice that Lambert can link up with the midfield and play the passing game, that's not what he'd be there for. However, Carroll's probably returned to fitness too late to be in contention. Unless he plays out of his skin every week from now til the end of the season, Lambert will go. Rodriguez is competing to go ahead of Townsend, Barkley, Chamberlain et al rather than as one of the strikers. If he does make it into the plane it'll be in addition to one of Lambert and Carroll.

Agreed - everybody stood strong and put their heads in, particularly Lambert and Fonte. Guly made a strong clearance as well. We could easily have conceded a third without that bit of concentration, because Norwich were really fired up all of a sudden.
-
Guly? He didn't do much today and the mistake was horrendous but I was impressed with his willingness to run things down. Looked to have gained a bit of pace.

That's an observation of results from the outside, which is about as good as it gets for fans. I suppose we don't know that Cortese was a good negotiator because we've not been in a room with him, but that was the consensus and the evidence we have does support that. Journalists on the inside give that impression too, and not just his favourites.
-
I can direct you to the prices at which he secured players who were targeted by bigger clubs. Transfer fees, wages and agent's fees (the latter difficult to keep down in these negotiations, I'd imagine) are all relatively low. Not for our club and its history but for what other clubs pay. The Wanyama deal went through a lot of media games and we came out on top. I'd also point to the deal he secured for Oxlade-Chamberlain. It was clear he wanted to leave (this handed Arsenal great leverage) but Cortese still managed to get a huge amount of money. Alex remains the only player who has left against our will since 2009. For a club of rising talents and modest stature that is very impressive indeed.
-
We all know that Cortese was a very shrewd negotiator. It shouldn't matter that alpine is the one who says it. What we don't know is how the new board will do in that regard. We don't have a clue. But they have the business acumen and won't be any more willing than Cortese to pay over the odds. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think Snodgrass is a piece of work myself. One of those players where you can only see their constant lip and attitude when you watch them in the flesh. Anyway, no excuses not to win this game. Norwich can't score to save their lives. The last time they scored more than once in a game was in early December, and the only time before that was on the opening day of the season.

I don't know how it's been accepted that somebody is going to pay £30m for either Luke Shaw or Adam Lallana Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

He might have been okay if he'd come back, but we can do better.

He's been chairman for six hours, get a grip

Looking at our run-ins, we've both got two top 6 aways plus Everton and United at home to come. After that they've got slightly easier fixtures on paper but not by much. Beat them at St Marys and I think we've got a good chance of finishing 8th.

He comes from Canada He won't sell Lallana
