That was my meaning.

Would you guys take a press officer who's only worked in rugby? Can a fella who's just left London Irish sell meat and ale pies at SMS? All too often senior officials at clubs meddle in sporting matters - from his words we have an indication that he understands that and will respect the coach's judgement. That's as good as we can hope for. I'd certainly rather have someone from another sport with the skills and experience to do his job than a 'football man' without.

I'm wary of starting Gallagher. It seems a lot of people want to put Joe NotRickie in the starting XI and young Sam's all we've got. We have no idea how well he'll perform. This will be a very difficult game. They'll be in much, much better shape than when we played them at Anfield and when they came to St Mary's last season. I'd keep Ramirez on the bench and use him fairly early in the second half if something different is needed.

I'd like to know this too, I was quite excited by the idea.

"I’ve had experience in major league sport and the principles are transferable. I will come in at the level of a well-informed fan and, as far as the team is concerned, I will stay in my place. No one has more information about what’s happening with the team than the head coach. I know that. I’ve been a head coach. I’ve been confronted with political situations, people without all the information trying to influence decisions. "Everything needs to happen naturally. There need be no rush on either side. Pochettino needs to focus on all the important games coming up and I need to make space for him to do his work. He’s a very honest, strong personality with strong values. He should feel comfortable." Good quotes.

I'd be devastated. He's an excellent manager.

Where's Wanyama?

Did we? That's interesting.

Attendance at Sunderland: 859 Flooding will have affected many, as well as the early kick off, but cup attendances have been poor this season. It's partly because of the weaker sides that get put out, but I think it's fair to say everyone expected a strong team out on Saturday. And even if we knew the team in advance - who wouldn't travel to support Southampton as they tried to progress in this vital tournament? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Don't cry, mate.

Hahaha, knew this would come up. Win 5-0 and this thread doesn't get made.

Our greatest shame came from the fans who shouted and swore at Jos Hooiveld as he came over to applaud us. Terrible performance but that is not acceptable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Interesting idea, but I don't know enough about youth development and league structure to pass judgement myself.

Plus Targett and (I think) Stephens

I think we can do it.

Does Clyne deserve a call-up if he can't get a game for us? People would go nuts if he were on the Man Utd bench and made the squad.

It was just that chant though, bit odd. They stopped after we scored, at least...

Anyone know why the Hull fans booed furiously whenever we started OWTS? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The most nervous I've been about a game since the relegation fight last season. Strongest possible team and strongest possible performance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Great win - not at our best but Hull did test us in the middle of the park. Still, we always looked comfortable. Should have scored more Yoshida MOTM Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The time is at the end of the season.

Well, we did. He headbutted Fonte with more than a week left of the window.
