Gutted that Martina won't get goal of the season.

Didn't watch MOTD, but I have no problem with them focussing on United. They really were terrible, and with a better performance we wouldn't have needed a last minute set piece goal. This wasn't like last season, where we had to scrap for every touch of the ball. We had to stay solid when they did come at us (and we were very good) but it didn't take a masterclass. We'd all rather watch a big club playing badly than a midtable club playing pretty well and getting a result.

Clasie got a nasty gash in his thigh:

Isn't that Austin moment exactly what we've been missing, though? Someone to take a chance when it looks like we won't capitalise on a good performance.
-
It's confidence in each other. The players trust Forster more than Stekelenburg and Bertrand more than Yoshida. Needs a look as we get towards the summer - cause Bertrand will want to be at left back and keep his England place - but for now it's working wonders.
-
We might just win this relegation battle, you know.

B e a utiful.

Two games ago most people here would have agreed with them.

Think new players have to get up and sing, don't they?

He's got a lot of goodwill to lose - more than a foreign or 'unproven' player would get.

Can you write a sober and measured version for me, please? I don't want to read sensationalist journalism.
-
Enjoyed that and like his attitude. Glad to see he doesn't know how he gets into good positions - if he doesn't know, defenders won't either.
-
It's an impossible question to answer because we don't know what Austin or Rodriguez will be like yet. Ideally it would be one or both of them.
-
Can you name any 'Portsmouth journalists' working for national newspapers? I also wonder why any cunning plot to destabilise our club would involve a rumour of Liverpool looking at Shane Long. Surely you'd go for something a bit worse than that?
-
He'll be with his family in Liverpool.

That's how people work, unfortunately. There have been all sorts of studies showing it's not how much you earn that affects your happiness, it's how much you earn compared to your peers. I think we'd all be disgruntled to have a new employee come in and do our job for double our pay, no matter how happy we are with our wage.
-
The reported £80,000 per week is well above any other reported wages in our squad and, I assume, marks the upper end of the scale once the new TV money comes in. How many of our current stars will ask for a pay rise to match?
-
These were all ace. I remember Oxlade-Chamberlain dropping like a lemming in League One to emulate a FIFA game. Didn't Billy Sharp suck his thumb as well?
-
If Austin becomes our first choice striker, would we fancy starting him out wide again? He's less effective when he's occupying full backs rather than pulling centre halves out of position but he would still be useful. Can't see us sticking to two up top with Long and Austin because it would mean dropping Mane or Davis.

James Ward-Prowse's list of indisputable, unimprovable weaknesses
DuncanRG replied to ScepticalStan's topic in The Saints
People do bang on about their age, actually. They're exceptional talents and performing at a level well beyond what we can expect of most players. -
I couldn't name a single player like Shane Long. There are plenty of strikers I'd rather have but he has a unique combination of skills which I'm glad we have in our squad.
-
Can't say I like chants like that during the game, but the fact I absent mindedly joined in at one point says a lot about the man and how many great times we had singing that song.
-
Long is very hard to drop with the way he's been playing, though I thought the same of Romeu after Wednesday. If this is our shape from now on then let's give it another crack. Will be interesting to see how it works against a team who can dominate the ball. More important than pressure on the manager is the players' confidence. Another dodgy result and they'll be low. But ultimately we want to be in the mix with Liverpool and United by the end of the season so a draw would be best.

Must have looked at the table right as Everton scored and we went 11th - didn't even notice they had!
