  1. Great performance this, better than Watford against tougher opposition. Made up for JWP. And just like that we're within touching distance of the top half!
  2. Great price which goes some way to allaying the injury concerns. Hope he has a stormer.
  3. Koeman said it's more of a punishment as money is no object to footballers.
  4. I've been wary of Austin because of injury record but getting a striker is always exciting.
  5. That's a bit tinfoil hat. It's a shame they didn't show it but it will have been time restraints, given we were one of the last games on.
  6. Good performance and great to see the formation finally work as it's meant to. We didn't half ride our luck with all the chances we missed though. Watford were awful so it wasn't much bother but a better side could have punished us.
  7. Van Dijk has been our only consistently strong performer across the season. Others have had great spells (Pelle, Mané, Fonte, Davis) but not maintained them. That said, we're holding them to a high standard. Few in the first team have really been poor for more than a couple of games. The problems are team problems.
  8. Picks itself, really. If we can insist on every player being on top of their game I'd have Pelle over Lambert but that's it. Maybe use Mane as an impact sub with Davis starting.
  9. A penny for Harrison Reed's thoughts
  10. Please don't compare Schneiderlin with Jonjo Shelvey again! (Plus what others said about his temperament)
  11. How good would our shirts look without sponsors? If you're taking that line with the club, you need to think about why Koeman said what he said.
  12. He'd be a very good appointment.
  13. Not sure that's fair - when Koeman joined we didn't have a team at all because we were in the middle of selling it. So Koeman takes credit for rebuilding the team with remarkable success, and blame for not sustaining that success so far this season.
  14. We've gone forwards (to Europe) under Koeman and look to be going backwards from that now. What's the net direction of travel? Too early to tell.
  15. I hope so. We finished 7th and qualified for Europe last season, so any suggestion we've gone backwards under Koeman is rather premature.
  16. 'The Southampton Way' is as much internal marketing as external - a way of motivating staff and ensuring they're working together with the same goals in mind. But only a little more, in the context of five years!
  17. No we don't. We kept Wanyama, for example.
  18. If it were as bad as you say I couldn't see the club standing for it.
  19. That's not how coaching and development works. You have to nurture young players, give them opportunities to improve and help them reach their potential and hopefully the first team. No one is 'good enough' to start with. One way to help them reach that goal is encouragement, rather than public criticism.
  20. I've said it for years and will say it again - we should try to sign Gylfi Sigurdsson*. While Swansea are in a weaker position now than they have been in the past, the TV money coming in will embolden them to keep players. *Probably not in this window
  21. I'll always remember Paul Lambert's subs when Villa were losing to Bradford in the league cup a few years ago. He piled about six strikers onto their back line but forgot that he'd need someone to pass to them.
  22. Giving teenagers public criticism like that is pretty poor. Koeman's entitled to believe they're not good enough but shouldn't say so publicly to support what appears to be his goal: a larger transfer kitty.
  23. Three things for me: crossing, a cool head and some protection from counter attacks. Mostly crossing. He almost scored and almost set up a goal in 15 minutes. That's okay by me! Didn't he also take the corner which VVD hit the woodwork from?
  24. Just because it's not in quotes doesn't mean he isn't the source!
  25. I can see why he wants to wait, five years is a huge commitment. Especially for someone who sees out their contracts! More plausible than a quote from Koeman himself?
