You must find it bizarre that a very small but depressingly persistent bunch of white blokes know more than you about racial abuse. Apparently you shouldn’t worry. The UK is the most tolerant place on the planet. We have laws to deal with racism. There is no point in people making a stand against the almost non existent racism because it will never go away, not that it is a problem. BAME people don’t know what it is like to be white. It is only a very very very small minority of people so not really worth worrying about. The usual suspects are all over anybody who dares to speak out against the problem we have about racism and now they are all over you, a poster who has first hand knowledge of this deeply unpleasant problem. Still, they know better than you (apparently). I am sorry that you and your family have to put up with this crap. I am also sorry that a small bunch of very ignorant posters on here feel that they have the right to lecture you about racism. This place used to be a haven for a lot of far right wing apologists but it is good to see more and more posters getting fed up with them and calling them out. Are Villa “higher”? Judging by the way we played when we were firing on all cylinders in 2020 I’d say that it took a lot of intensive practice. Also given that we were defensively very poor for half a season how so if 50% of the training was spent of defence? Finally how on earth could you keep this so quiet for 3 weeks? I’m not saying it isn’t possible but it seems highly unlikely.

Absolutely right. It’s over in seconds so why make a big deal about it and why does it bother some so much? Those who suffer abuse first hand feel that it is worthwhile and it is certainly better than doing nothing. It’s amazing that people spend so much time out of their life complaining about something they say they say is inconsequential. Why talk about transfers when you can spend time slagging off your own players? I really don’t get the negativity around JWP. Whilst he certainly isn’t the best midfielder we have ever had, he really isn’t that bad. He was our player of the year last year deservedly and has earned the captaincy with consistent performances. It seems almost as if some people get some perverse pleasure from dissing our own players, management and club. No one and nothing is perfect.

Indeed. You would need to be criminally incompetent to allow your main striker to leave on the last day of the window without sorting out a replacement. Ings has behaved like a model professional (unlike certain other players who have fancied a move to a big club) and to infer that his form has dipped because he wants out is utter nonsense. Any professional athlete who aims to perform to the best of their ability is bound to look pissed off if it is not working for them. The PL is a very demanding platform and players need to be in peak condition to perform at their best.

He can reassess Spurs all he likes, but if he wants CL football that certainly ain’t happening next season and is no certainty the season after either.

Stealing a living? Turning up for training and being available to play is stealing a living? I think you’ll find that is called doing your job. As for freezing a 19 year old out of the club. Perhaps it was just that he thought the kid wasn’t ready yet so didn’t play him. 19 years old. Think about that. Certainly his brief appearance against United seem to indicate that Ralph was right not to play him again at the time, but does that really equate to being frozen out? The guy wants to progress and play football and clearly isn’t going to be a starter in the first team for a while so it seems like the club have agreed to let him go. Why make it sound like a drama? My wife was bullied by her boss a couple of years ago and it seriously affected her mental health. What made it worse was that she and her partner were friends of ours and drank in our local. Bullying in the workplace (or anywhere for that matter) has no place in a civilised society.

It is not his fault that he has got a decent contract so why bully him and make his life a misery? I said that I had some people on ignore (not including LD, that was your assumption). You said that I didn’t. I have and the fact that I may have read 5% of the posts on my ignore list for the sake of continuity in a thread it doesn’t alter the fact that I have an ignore list of which the vast majority of posts don’t get read. That, in any reasonable person’s book would be ignore. I am sure that you can grasp this very simple concept but in your rush to try and make yourself look superior you have once again failed. Like Turkish you clearly do not understand how the ignore function works. You can chose to read individual posts if you wish at the press of a button. In answer to your question, one on your list has been on ignore for some time, one went on yesterday and one isn’t on it because it is funny reading his posts as he is clearly still stuck half way through the last century. You also managed to miss some names. So yes, there is a bunch of usual suspects on ignore and your attempt at smart arsery has back fired.

Back to the Euros. There was an interesting feature in The Guardian the other day about using penalties to decide the final. Given that it is a team game it is a bit harsh that it falls to an individual to fail to decide the competition but what other way is there to break the deadlock? Readers were asked for their suggestions. One said if it is still level pegging after extra time share the cup with both sides designated winners. Can’t see that happening as we like a definite outcome. Another suggested that it should be awarded to the best team. As we know, the best team doesn’t always win which makes the sport more appealing but it might encourage both sides to go for it. There would be some kind of scoring system involving possession, shots on goal, fouls etc. Of all of the suggestions this one looked the most logical to me as it rewards the team who put in the most effort to win the game within the laws of the game. I can’t see it changing though. The penalty competition provides plenty of drama at the end and at least it finishes on a high (for some). In my preferred option you would have to wait while the statos checked their figures before announcing the winner over the tannoy. Not so exciting! I don’t know what the answer is, but people shouldn’t have to live with the shame of missing one for the rest of their lives. I know they could make a mistake during the game which affects the outcome but at least they have 90 or 120 minutes in which to have a positive impact on the game. Just one misplaced kick and the likes of Southgate, Waddle, Pearce and now Rashford, Sancho and Saka have that on their CV’s for the rest of their days.

I understand perfectly well how incongruous it is for white people to tell people on the end of racial abuse how they should or should not react to it and how bizarre it is for people who swear blind that they are not racist to boo people demonstrating about racism. As for shutting “people like me” up, you are entitled to make your point every day, why can’t I? Why does it upset you so much that someone posts against racism? I am sorry to hear about your experiences Red but you seem to take all of this crap with a fair amount of good grace and pragmatism. I am not sure if I could do the same so fair play! Sadly you don’t have to dig very deep to find these stories of abuse and intolerance on a regular basis. The abuse after the final and the fuss about players taking the knee have helped raise awareness of this problem within our society, yet it is stories like these that really strike at the heart of the matter. You can dismiss what happened at the Euros as the actions of a few mindless idiots, but Red’s experiences show that it is so much more than that and more deeply ingrained in every day life. It has been over 20 years since the Macpherson report yet we are still talking about institutionalised racism within the police. Racism reared it ugly head in football in the 70’s yet half a century on we are still talking about what needs to be done to combat it. The amount of hate crime reported has climbed sharply since Brexit, with many British born citizens being told to “go back to your own country”. You come on the social media platforms to call out racism and support those taking a stance against it and immediately become a target for the WUMs who seem to have nothing better to do with their time than help muddy the waters and indirectly support those who are spreading ignorance, intolerance and hate. What these forums need is more people like you who can come on and talk about your experiences first hand. It quickly shuts up those who try and pretend that we don’t have a significant problem with racism and intolerance here. Anything that raises awareness helps fight the widespread ignorance of how this cancer in our society affects everyday people. It will never be eradicated completely but the more we do as a society, being it footballers showing solidarity before matches to people calling out ignorance and intolerance or just sharing their experiences on social media platforms, the more this behaviour will become unacceptable and we will spend more time talking about sport, not what happened to people because of their skin tone. Of all of the threads here about racial and religious intolerance including this part of the Euro thread, I would say that your one post is the only one that puts everything perfectly into perspective and sums up where we are in the UK in 2021. You mentioned being worried about the WUMs and it isn’t pleasant being on the receiving end of their attacks. There are also those who seem to have completely missed the point of what you were saying as evidenced by the responses, but the vast majority of those who use this forum will be pleased that you posted, I’m sure.

What is impressive is the speed in which they jump on anything that remotely speaks out against racism. It’s as though they are a tag team. If one isn’t available another is ready to step in to fight the good fight against anyone having the temerity to speak out against racism. They have got this down to a fine art. As I have said before though, the upside is that these people have outed themselves and their agenda is there for all to see. Here’s a good game for those bored on a hot afternoon. Post something in support of anything anti racist and within minutes I can guarantee that one of 5 people will respond with a counter post.
