  1. What is low is ignoring the bigger issues and just focussing on small ones to further your own agenda. When I first mentioned that she had “air pollution” as cause of death on her certificate that was all that I had heard - that she was the first person to have that as cause of death on her certificate. I didn’t pick up the rest until later. As I said before, the main issue here is that air pollution is killing people and that anything that is done to improve air and saves lives has to be a good thing. If you and your buddies disagree, so be it. But please stop with the stupid nitpicking and focus on what the main issue is here. Thank you. By the way , The words “material contribution” would indicate something important and therefore “major”. If not why go to the effort of adding it to the report if it was significant. In fact I have just gone back and read everything I have posted on this subject and you have managed to distort everything. Ella’s mother is making a big deal of this on her media rounds. Is that low?
  2. Well it’s only a World Cup Final, so no big deal. Let’s be honest, if it was the men the media would be all over it like Turkish and his Circle of Trust. It is brilliant achievement and if they win they deserve all the media attention they will get.
  3. I’m enjoying seeing some of the same people who used to pile on to MLG for his pedantry pick me up on the use of the/a. He would be impressed. The main point is that the words “air pollution” were used for the first time on a UK death certificate. Let’s not try and water down the significance of that. The exact words from the coroner were, “Ella died of asthma contributed to by exposure to excessive air pollution.” If the air pollution wasn’t a major factor, why mention it? No one is going to die by breathing polluted air alone. It causes all sorts of respiratory and cardio vascular problems, especially in children. Sadiq Khan says that air pollution is responsible for the deaths of 4,000 people in London a year. The Daily Mail says that it is responsible for 40,000 deaths in the UK annually. The Lancet puts the annual death toll due to air pollution at 6.5 million. Whinge about ULEZ all you like, but poor air quality is causing illness and killing people prematurely on a daily basis.
  4. I wasn’t going to bother to reply to these two silly posts, but the dog and I are waiting for it to stop raining for her walk, so buckle up folks. If you go and look at my initial post you will see that I referred to certain programmes as “classic” and not “highlights”. Things are called “classic” for a variety of reasons. That particular programme is a classic not for the reason you state, but because it demonstrates very clearly the blatant sexism at the time and the way at Helen Morren put Parkinson in his place. As you say, he himself accepts in hindsight that his line of questioning was sexist and included a clip of the interview in his own programme showing his retrospective career. Yes, it was a low point, but as he said, it was of it’s time, 1975, and serves as a historical record of culture and sexism in the 20th century. He wasn’t afraid to admit his own shortcomings and it is part and parcel of who he was then and now. If I wanted to perv over Helen Mirren I would go and watch Age of Reason, Savage Messiah or Caligula, not a chat show on the BBC. Regarding you comment about Peter Sellers, Freddie Starr constantly dressed up as a NAZI for laughs. John Cleese still gets laughs today for mimicking a goose stepping Hitler in Fawlty Towers. Are you going to pretend that you didn’t laugh at either out of deference to the suffering of the Jews caused by the butt of their ridicule? Comedians used to get easy laughs by taking the piss out of the NAZIs all the time and it had nothing to do whatsoever with denigrating the plight and feelings of the Jewish people. We laugh at things like this as a way of dealing with our feelings over horrific deeds. It was aimed at ridiculing the perpetrators in solidarity with the victims. Understand? Probably not as you are cut from the same cloth as people like Nigel Farage. You do have previous in ruining these RIP threads. I remember very well your deeply disrespectful comments in the “Butch” Wilkins thread when he passed away. Anyway, moving on. There is an interesting back story about the Peter Sellers interview. Apparently he was a deeply insecure man and rarely gave interviews, preferring to appear in public as a character rather than himself. He finally agreed to appear on the Parkinson Show but had an anxiety attack before he was due to appear and told Parkinson that he couldn’t do it. Parky was less than pleased, told him that they were ready to go and that he had no choice in the matter. Sellers said he would appear as another character and Parky said do whatever but just do it. Sellers raided the costume department, finding a German helmet and long leather coat. After his introduction on stage he goose-stepped onto the set, got lots of laughs which helped to calm his anxiety and went on to give a great interview. I don’t recall any complaints about him disrespecting Jewish people at the time. On this subject, do you think that “The Producers” should be cancelled? Surely, by your warped logic, it is anti-sematic and offends the sensibilities of Jewish people because it pokes fun at NAZI Germany? As a man who is still so rooted in the language and culture of the 1970’s it is surprising that you seem to have so little understanding of what is going on here and what was happening at the time. You are either not very bright or are being deliberately obtuse. I am leaning towards the former. The sun is out now so time to walk the dog. One final word. If you are going to try and have a dig at me, think about what you post before you hit send because you tend to make yourself look stupid instead of your intended target.
  5. Why exactly? It is one of his most referred to and now notorious interviews and he himself mentioned it in the programme on his life shown tonight on the BBC. I actually sanitised it. In a subsequent interview with her she recalls him talking about her “tits” and asking if they got in the way of her trying to be a serious actor. He himself says it was of it’s time but appreciated that looking back through today’s lens it was a sexist question. It is no less appropriate than referring to Peter Sellers dressed as a member of the Gestapo on his show and it is sad that you feel the need to try and point score on a thread about his passing.
  6. Sad news today about the passing of another major name from my earlier years. His chat show on Saturday nights was a must watch. Those were the days when he just had interesting people on who just talked about their lives and experiences. No plugging of their latest record, book, film etc. So many classics. Peter Sellers coming on wearing a German helmet, Ali, Helen Mirren and her boobs. Most will remember Rod Hull attacking him with Emu, made even funnier because Parky was clearly very unhappy about it. LBC had his good friend Dickie Bird on the phone to talk about him this afternoon but he could barely speak for the tears. A TV and journalistic legend. RIP Parky.
  7. As pointed out, fascist governments have been democratically elected before and will be again, but, with respect Whelk, you are missing my point. As with Gary Lineker’s Twitter pile on when he posted that the language being used is similar to that used in 1930’s Germany. He was accused of calling people NAZIs or fascists when he did nothing of the sort. It served its purpose in deflecting from his original point though. I have not called anyone either of those things. If you look at the definition of fascist/fascism and do a tick box exercise though you can see quite clearly that certain people are much closer to that side of the spectrum than centre right. Much closer. Yes you can be a Tory bastard without being a facist. My point is that although they might not be fully paid up members of a fascist group, they are not that far away in their agendas in terms of how we define a fascist mentality. I don’t see the far right everywhere. I see it where it is. GB News. The Daily Mail, Express and Telegraph. Social commentators such as Katie Hopkins. In politics the likes of Braverman, Patel, Anderson. You have been reading Lord Duckhunter’s posts as long as I have. Surly given the number of boxes his opinions tick you can see that he is planted firmly in far right politics? Batman too. There is nothing centrist or remotely liberal about their opinions and attitudes. If you listen to people from minority groups on radio phone in programmes the number that say that abuse against them has risen since the referendum is notable. There view is that the vote has emboldened people with these views and more and more are voicing their opinions when they wouldn’t have done so much before. There are a couple of posters here who like to believe that it is just me and I make this stuff up. I wish it was just fantasy, but it isn’t if you listen to the people directly affected by these kinds of attitudes. I see the far right in the USA because you see the news reports on a regular basis where Trump supporters quite happily repeat his far right rhetoric. A far right party was elected in Italy. The far right are growing in popularity in France and other European countries. They might not be fascists, but they are far closer to that ideology than they are to centre right politics. Why is it a concern? Because we have senior politician here now openly saying to migrants “fuck of back to France” and likening their arrival on these shores to an “invasion”. As Lineker quite rightly said, similar to the language used in Germany in the 1930’s. And it is being used here now with impunity by democratically elected politicians. If someone posts something that ticks a box in the far right agenda or they post something supporting those with far right views and far right agendas, what is wrong with saying something about it? God knows Corbyn and his supporters took enough flak for their left wing views. Why should the far right be free from scrutiny? Especially since their xenophobia and nationalism drove us to the disaster that was Brexit.
  8. It is interesting to note how some people try and play down extremes in politics or agendas. Pretending that the current government and many of the senior members of the cabinet is a prime example. Label something as Far Right or even Fascist in nature is often triggering to these people. I guess it is in the same way that Racists hate to be called racists. Granted, the term Fascist is used in a pejorative way these days so no surprise those labelled as one get upset. However, having looked for a decent example of what constitutes a Fascist, and it is easier to find a post from Duckhunter without several expletives in it than a description of Fascism that doesn’t go on about Hitler, Mussolini and Jack Boots, I have found the following that do the trick. ”Fascism is an ultranationalist, authoritarian, political philosophy. It combines elements of nationalism, militarism, economic self sufficiency and totalitarianism. It opposes communism, socialism, pluralism, individual rights and equality and democratic government.” ”Fascists are sexist, anti-liberal, anti socialist and anti-communist. They believe in extreme authoritarianism, the supremacy of one race or nation over others, the persecution of minorities and dissidents.” 14 Defining Characteristics of Fascism 1. Powerful and continuing nationalism 2.Disregard for Human Rights 3.Identification of enemies as a unifying cause 4.Supremacy of the military 5.Widespread sexism 6.Controlled mass media 7.Obsession with national security 8.Religion and government intertwined 9.Corporate power is protected 10.Labour power is suppressed 11.Disrespect for intellectuals and The Arts 12.Obsession with crime and punishment 13.Rampant cronyism and corruption 14.Fraudulent elections Given the number of boxes ticked here I would say there was a fag paper between the current Tory government and fascism (and less than that between fag paper and some of the posters here).
  9. Wow! Cracking goal! Or crap goal keeping (according to Batman)? 😂
  10. Starmer is doing what he needs to do to get Labour elected i.e. not frightening the horses (Middle England). He can’t change anything, and a great deal needs changing, without getting elected, so he has one job and this is the way to get it done. I don’t agree that there is little difference between the parties. The Tories have run out of ideas and are either pinching Labour policies or are just fudging decisions but they are still looking to appeal to populist policies that will limit damage at the next election. Labour’s intent is to govern for the majority rather than the privileged few. They won’t be able to change things overnight but there are clear differences in what they are looking to achieve and it is going to take longer than 5 years to turn this mess around. Of course this current Tory Party is the most right focussed for decades. The only ones who can’t see that are the ones who want it to go further right. Whatever One Nation Conservatism was, this is a long way from that. The Culture Wars, stirring up hate towards foreigners, “Lefty” lawyers, High Court Judges (enemies of the people), blobs, civil servants, using mainstream media outlets to spread their warped propaganda, outright lies repeated ad infinitum until they become “true”, outright cronism are all things out of the fascist playbook agenda of yesteryear. Even Theresa May, as PM, warned that they were in danger of becoming the “Nasty Party” (Churchill used to refer to Nazis as Nasties). They are well and truly nasty now. It’s although they have been reading Orwell for tips in how to govern. In Sunak we now have a PM who implores us to trust him and likes to pretend that he is a decent, caring human being, yet he is happy to let his attack dogs off the leash at every opportunity (Braverman, Anderson, Jenrick etc etc etc) to do his dirty work for him. It stinks and it has to end.
  11. The lady who spoke on an LBC show was Rosamund Addo-Kissi-Debrah. Her 9 year old daughter, Ella, is the first person to have air pollution as cause of death on her death certificate and her mother is doing the media rounds after the fuss about ULEZ. The phone in topic was about ULEZ. She has been campaigning for ULEZ and for cleaner air. Her being on the show had absolutely nothing to do with my opinion. Funny that. You really are not very clever are you? Still if it amuses you to pretend that I make things up, carry on. Simple things and all that 😚
  12. Last October I received a social media message from a general music site saying that Peter Gabriel was launching a new album and tour in 2023 after 20 years since the last album. I posted a comment “What’s the rush Peter?” Today, nearly 11 months later, I received a notification that my post had just received a ❤️ response from……….Peter Gabriel. 😂
  13. Does it really matter what we call them? Fascists? The Far Right? Alt-Right? Gammons? If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck(hunter)…get the picture? Hypo gets himself all worked up about this stuff, bless him. We have crossed swords many times on the subject over the years. Despite the evidence to the contrary, he would have us believe that the far right agenda is not a big issue in this country. Strange that as since Brexit more and more of these people have been sticking their heads above the parapet. We even have a new, polished version of the National Front/UKIP (take a bow Mr Fox) and a would be rival to Fox News in GB News. It was exactly the same with the issue of racism in football. A while back he was trying to tell us that it wasn’t a big issue now as it wasn’t as bad as the 70’s. I think most people now, especially those on the end of racist behaviour, know that to be rubbish and accept that racism in football is still a major issue. You may not recall dear Hypo getting all worked up when I called out the behaviour of the likes of Katie Hopkins and Tommy Robinson*. Despite claiming to not know who they were, he spent an awful lot of time defending them and attacking my posts. Not the type of behaviour you would expect from a liberal (according to one of his more bizarre posts he referred to himself as such on one occasion I believe). There are elements of the current Tory Party who are far right and are not afraid to use far right rhetoric, which, if he bothered to check a wide range of social media outlets, clearly appeals to a small but significant number of people. They already have Sunak in their pocket and when he is finally get kicked out, it will be interesting to see if they rally behind someone like Braverman. That certainly seems to be the direction they are heading in and the few moderates in the party look to be sidelined by the obnoxious Anderson and pals. Far right politics and support is growing across Europe and we have already seen the support that is still there in the US for Trump. This shit ain’t going away and it needs to be challenged. Hypo once told us that socialism was “dangerous” whilst completely ignoring the fact that it is nationalism in this form that is the real danger. And it all proliferates when people like him try and pretend that it is not a big deal. * I’ve done it now. You can guarantee that having mentioned either Hopkins and/or Robinson the Usual Suspects will kick off again. They might even throw a mention of belt buckles in Nazi Germany in for good measure as it is one of their favourites when this stuff kicks off!
  14. Having just seen this post initially in Buctootim’s response (I appreciate your boredom with this Tim, but this one is down to you!) I thought I would do you the courtesy of responding directly this time. To quote Duckie, for the avoidance of doubt, you are on my ignore list and have been for some time. I have never claimed to have never read your posts. I have patiently explained to you a number of times that your posts pop up when quoted by other people ( as with this occasion) so are unavoidable and there have been occasions when I have chosen to read the odd post (again as I have tried to tell you the ignored post gives an option to read it if you wish)- but yes, I don’t read the majority of your posts. I do not and never have responded to every one of your posts and do not post about you non stop as anyone reading here regularly will know. Yes, I have mentioned you recently because of your tiresome, childish behaviour over the Circle of Trust nonsense. Other people have called out your behaviour on it to by the way, not just me. I know that your monumental, narcissist ego will find it hard to deal with, but I don’t follow you around all the time unlike your odd stalking of me. For avoidance of doubt just look at the times you immediately respond to one of my posts against the lack of response from me when you post. I probably respond to Batman and Lord Duckhunter’s posts more frequently than yours. I know, I know, it won’t compute in your narcissist world in which it is all about you. Here’s a shock. It isn’t 😲 Let’s face it mate, you are all over this forum like syphilis at a Roman orgy and it is almost impossible to ignore you completely (sadly). I’m sorry if this has annoyed you again Tim. I appreciate how boring these spats are to others, but I don’t believe that attention seeking, narcissistic cretins should get a free ride and, frankly, his behaviour doesn’t get called out enough. This place is headed towards to becoming Turkishweb. God help us.
  15. I haven’t flown for the last few years and I recently got rid of my 15 year old car. We only have one car now between us which is obviously better for the environment and we have never been on and don’t plan to go on a cruise. Do I pass your test? Sadly if you are relying on individuals to “do the right thing” it will take forever which is why we need things like ULEZ and government action to speed up change and conformity.
  16. We can argue the toss over this for days but I don’t think the lady who lost her daughter to “air pollution” (this was on the death certificate) would agree with you - of the thousands of others who suffer from the effects of air pollution every year. If, as you say, it is just a money making scheme and if that money is ploughed back into public transport and helps remove more pollutants from the roads, is that such a bad thing? I have no problem with people who cause the most pollution having to stump up for it. There was a very good phone in today in which a number of health experts talked about the many effects of air pollution on the human body. Frankly I am more likely to listen to them than the selfish people who just want to do what they want despite the damage it may do to others.
  17. Really Whitey? https://www.intelligenttransport.com/transport-news/143807/ulez-expansion-london-dramatically-reduces-air-pollution-says-new-report/#:~:text=According to the report%2C the, have been without the scheme. https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2023/03/london-low-emissions-zone-pollution/
  18. For avoidance of doubt the people calling the barge a “fire trap” are the experts who know about these things. I assume that the problem has been exacerbated by the fact that it was previously used for 250 people and now is supposed to house 500 people. For avoidance of doubt I have never said I wax happy or unhappy about the barge being used. If you read my posts properly instead of jumping to half backed. Inclusion like you usually due (too much weed again?). Fot the avoidance of doubt. at least 6 migrants won’t be using the barge or even going back to France. For the avoidance of doubt, the likes of you, Lee Anderson and Suella Braverman wouldn’t have been out of place in Germany in the 1930s. Scum the lot if you.
  19. Labour have made it quite clear that it will take a long time to sort out the mess left by the (hopefully) outgoing government. They have also made it clear what they would do in respect of the migrant issue, which amount to a lot more than the current bunch. They expect the barge to be fully operational when they take over so what sense does it make to instantly non commission it?Try engaging your brain and listening to what they do before making pointless posts eh? I don’t think you have once criticised the Home Office for the mess they have made of this but constantly have a go at those not in power and who, currently, can do nothing about it.
  20. Back in 1976 I was fortunate enough to be given a cup final ticket. Giving no thought to what strip we would be wearing or where I would be sitting I set off for Wembley wearing a yellow jumper and blue jeans. Upon arrival I was concerned to find that, not only were we going to play in yellow and blue, but that I was also sat amongst several hundred United supporters! All went well until Bobby Stokes hit the back of the net and I jumped out of my seat yelling “goal” in the midst of a bunch of very unimpressed opposition fans. Sat back down in my seat and aware of a number of hostile stares aimed in my direction, I managed to mutter something about being a neutral and just wanting to see a goal. Fortunately I have a London accent which probably saved me from a bit of a hiding at the final whistle.
  21. Given the latest news from the farce that is this government’s attempt to deal with the migrants, how long before Lee Anderson issues this quote - “If you don’t want to get Legionnaire’s Disease, f*** back to France?” In another farce, is Lord Duckhunter actually suggesting that the Fire Brigade’s Union has nothing to do with the Fire Brigade and isn’t qualified to comment on what constitutes a fire trap? 😂 Interesting take on the accommodation from someone who stayed on the barge before the bunk beds were installed. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/bibby-stockholm-barge-conditions-resident-experience-b2390135.html ps Apparently the Home Office arranged to have the water tested but moved people onto the barge before they got the results back. 😜
  22. It is not my job to put them anywhere but as I have said, they could start by trying to deal with the traffickers properly. I have never complained about trying to reduce the numbers coming over. I have complained about the lack of proper, legal avenues which is a completely different thing. if we are getting into the “people like you” area then perhaps people like you should not just jump to assumptions and read things properly. It serves their purpose not to do much about stopping the crossings as they are making a big deal about the accommodation issues along with the “invasion” of migrants (as I am sure you know, we deal with far less than other European countries. As I have already said, they need to do more to stop the traffickers (if TV reporters can find them why can’t the authorities?). They need to sort of the ridiculous current back log of claimants and they need to actually provide proper legal avenues for people to apply for asylum without risking their lives crossing the channel. How many times do I need to say it? By the way, I was not complaining about the barge (although I did point out that our fire brigade call it a fire trap). I was complaining about Lee Anderson’s terminology. Again, he is Deputy Chairman of the Tory Party yet he comes across as Lord Duckhunter from a football forum. Classy.
  23. This started some time ago on here. From memory some Islamophobes took exception when it was pointed out to them that Christianity could hardly take the moral high ground over Islam when it came to coming atrocities. The burning of heretics (be they Catholic or Protestant) was one example. The atrocities committed by Germany in the 1930s and 1940s another. They wouldn’t have it that Germany wax predominately a Christian country. One of the many counters to this was the Germany army belt buckles which they found then, and apparently still find now, hilarious. I have no idea why, but there you go! The point was not what did Hitler believe or not believe. He and his higher command used religion to their own ends and many members of the Nazi Party were active Christians, which is what the argument was about. They lost the argument but try and deflect by making a joke about military belt buckles. Clearly they are as mutton headed as Lee Anderson. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_Nazi_Germany
  24. So it being a fire trap is no big deal then? You have proved my point though. Lee Anderson has done his job and has you focussed on a few “ungrateful” asylum seekers and away from the almighty mess that his party have made of immigration. If you are interested in why, read this. https://amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/aug/09/britain-conservatives-government-bibby-stockholm
  25. No one said it is but I expect those sort of comments from Gammons on a football forum, not the Deputy Chairman of the Government! And if the fire brigade told you that accommodation provided for you was a potential fire trap I am sure you would be more than happy to stay there. I don’t know what other reasons they have for not wanting to go there and I suspect that you don’t either but rather than assume they are being ungrateful, I am happy to wait and hear the reasons why. The Tories are doing what the Tories do. They are throwing red meat to those of a far right persuasion and trying to whip up a media frenzy to deflect from the total mess they have made of this. Perhaps, instead of throwing profanities around and trying to create an “enemy” for the media to pile in on, they should put their efforts into finding an effective way to deal with the people traffickers in France, to deal with the massive backlog of asylum applications that they have let pile up and bring in safe and legal routes for people to apply for asylum here so that they don’t have to risk their lives crossing the channel in small boats. We have been fed more governments lies recently. For example, it is not a legal requirement to seek a skull in the first safe country you come to. If that was the case places like Poland would be overrun with Ukrainians. The government insist on calling them illegal immigrants. It is perfectly legal for them to apply for asylum once they arrive here so the only illegal ones are those who do not. Judging by the huge numbers in the processing queue it looks like the majority are not illegal.
