  1. That’s harsh. Look, many of us oldies will find it difficult to lock ourselves away for weeks or maybe months. We are the most at risk group and less likely to get a hospital bed and a respirated when the **** hits the fan, so cut us some slack please. We are all trying to get our heads around what it means to us and our loved ones. It is entirely possible that some of us won’t be here to slag off Gao, Long, JWP etc next season. I don’t see any of the general public giving a flying gig about others given that they are hoovering up supplies before the oldies can get out. As ever, when there are periods of great stress on society, we see the best and the worst of human behaviour. There will a lot worse than people breaking the isolating advice. Just wait until a black market appears and low life’s look to make money out of the situation.

    Coronavirus

Just heard from my brother who has worked in pharma all his life. Started off with Burroughs & Wellcome back in the 70’s. He now works for a company who audit the ingredients going into meds. He says that they are making progress on a vaccine but that it is probably at least a year away. As for the UK, they reckon we will be in lockdown in the next week. Didn’t have much advice for prevention other than what we know but did suggest taking concentrated garlic every day as garlic has an anti micro activity. Eek.
  3. Sex Education is a must watched. Just started Stranger Things which seems ok so far.

I remember getting stuck for this, but remember, as far as Universal Credit goes, they will cover your rent but they won’t cover your mortgage repayments.

So what are you saying? They can bring home normal cold and flu viruses but not Covid-19? And I am the one needs to sober up? Weren’t you the one who was telling us via your “snap dragon” that this was very serious? Not via school kids then.

When my kids were younger I was always getting bugs they brought back from school. Why is Covid-19 any different?

Who looks after the kids if the parents are self isolating?

Playing Devils Advocate, isn’t Capitalism all about survival of the fittest? The people I feel sorry for are the small businesses. Many of them will go to the wall and there will be no hand outs from the Government to save them.

So Richard Branson wants the Government to bail Virgin Airlines out to the tune of £7.5billion. Remind me again Richard, do you pay any taxes in the UK?
  15. We have a large ranges of ages in our village fortunately and have just set up a WhatsApp group to keep in touch with anyone who needs help. Great too see so many local youngsters offering to help us oldies. Hopefully my fellow oldies on here will get plenty of help from neighbours too.

Not much different Whelk. Unless I get it and then, as an old git, I shall be left to croak, so very quiet thereafter.

Whatever advice is given, I am not sure that The Great British Public will listen to it. Despite being told that there is no need to stockpile there were still no loo rolls, dried pasta, painkillers etc. around in local supermarkets today.
  18. A neighbour of mine is in his 70’s but one of the most active people in the village. He is always walking his dog on in his garage making things. He is in the local most days too. It would drive him crazy being inside the house for weeks.

Are you? You seem to know an awful lot about mortality projections for a cook.

Johnson’s responses to the virus could end up costing thousands more lives, and still the usual suspects on here would be defending him.

Apparently Trump is offering. German pharma company “a great deal of money” for access to their work on a vaccine, but for the US only. Don’t you just love nationalism?

How many would that be exactly? How come the advice they are giving is at odds with many other professionals and the rest of Europe? How many of these people advising the Government get to make the final decisions of had Johnson given them to crack in and just keep him in the picture every now and again?

In matters relating to serious epidemics - as opposed to people who spend their time supporting Tory policies on the Internet no matter that they may cost many lives.

Then we have read different polls. It would also appear that 229 professional experts disagree with our Governments current handling of the situation too.
