The United Kingdom and the Death of Boris Johnson as we know it.
sadoldgit replied to CB Fry's topic in The Lounge
The problem we have now is that it isn’t just the odd individual who is isn’t that bright and is incompetent (and nasty) it is the current sitting PM and pretty much all of his cabinet. As for the Henry V111 question, I don’t know many people who could answer that and hazarding a guess at Henry V11 is perfectly reasonable if you don’t know the answer. Fortunately a light hearted quiz show has nothing to do with running the country and understanding your brief, which few cabinet misters seem to do. People like Lammy and Abbott have been getting dogs abuse for years, not just recently like Nad and her chums, and we all know why. I think that poor old Duckie is rattled. For years it was the preserve of the Right to make fun of those whose politics are left of centre, fuelled by the Right wing media. Now the shoe is on the other foot and we have a bunch of useless, and quite often clueless individuals in a Tory government who get away with the hammering they would get from the mainstream media only because they are Tories. Fortunately there are now plenty of normal, decent people who can see what is going on and hopefully many of these MPs will be looking for a new job in a couple of years time. -
Perhaps they should have chosen something really cool, like the Lady Duckhunters?

If Ronaldo had scored that everyone would be talking about how audacious it was. Ok, it went through the keepers legs but who was expecting Russo to do that?
-
What a performance. Not always at our best but after a slow start we found a couple of extra gears and put 4 past a very good Swedish side. A very well deserved place in the final. Now bring on Germany!

What a goal by Russo!!

Fixed it for you 😉

Given the amount of hours you spend everyday trawling the internet for things of this topic, perhaps you would be kind enough to provide the evidence that using the word “brown” when describing someone’s ethnicity is a racial slur yet using the words “black” and “white” are not? Getting back to the football, apart from one dodgy early NI game, for me it has been very entertaining. It is pointless comparing it to men’s football but by its own standards women’s football is progressing in leaps and bounds. The goalkeeping, generally, has improved enormously and the quality of crossing has been excellent. It makes a refreshing change to see teams going for it and every one of the quarter finals have been worth watching. If taken on it’s own merits, there is plenty to enjoy but as others keep saying, if you don’t like it don’t watch it and don’t bother boring others with your negativity. There are plenty of Saints threads where you can dump that stuff if you feel the need.

Upset, Batman, that The Guardian have used the word “brown” when describing someone with a different coloured skin? I guess that you will be lodging a complaint against them given the way you kicked off when I used the word recently?

You do know that the UK is part of Europe and just because we have left the EU it doesn’t mean to say we are part of a completely different meteorological system to the rest of the continent now? Keep on stalking and making your fatuous comments Turkish. You are managing to make Liz Truss look like a decent prospect for our next PM. Where is this hot weather coming from? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-62166766

Nothing to worry about, a fuss about nothing… https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2022/jul/17/forest-fires-rage-across-europe-as-heatwave-sends-temperatures-soaring

Not strictly true Whelk but I did upset them when calling out Robinson and Hopkins for the far right wing bigots they are. It seems if you speak up against Islamophobia, racism, homophobia, sexism etc you end up attracting a bunch of stalkers. I think most of them have got nothing better to do other than be WUMs on social media and there is something very odd about grown men stalking others for their own amusement. Still, it keeps them off the streets I guess 😉

The car parks were full. If you know Camber you will know that there is no where else to park your car legally once they are full and people usually leave their cars parked on double yellow lines as well so there is no where to park. When you go on holiday do you think it is fun to spend two weeks sitting in a traffic jam? Perhaps I missed something but if that is the case why not just sit in the car on the drive rather than sitting in a jam between your house on the beach?

I wasn’t “wondering the streets of Paris.” I was there with friends doing what all tourists do. Funnily enough there were thousands of other tourists there too. Who would have thought it? I wasn’t working for the CPS at that time, I was working for The Spectator. I was not a lawyer when working at the CPS and never, myself, prosecuted anyone for rape or any other crime. Apart from that you are spot on. So unlike you to make things up to try and get a bite but well done because it has worked this time thanks to your mate Batman quoting more of your usual bol locks. Even on a day like this you feel the need to stalk and to troll. Sad really.

Of course you are Duckie. You are so used to being lied to by the people you vote for that you assume that everyone lies. It is true though. Why would anyone lie about something like that? Perhaps you think that these people just collapsed and passed out or died conveniently in hospitals? If you are that desperate to discredit it go look at the news reports from Paris that summer. Perhaps this will help, especially the bit that’s says “morgues overflowing with bodies.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2019/06/25/heat-wave-killed-france-temperatures-soar-again-officials-are-taking-no-chances/

We were in Paris during the heatwave of 2003 and saw many people collapsed on the pavement being treated by paramedics. I think they estimated that it was responsible for another 2500 deaths. It can be dangerous for those with cardiovascular issue as the heat thickens the blood. My Dad died of a massive coronary on a day of excessive heat here. I know it seems funny to hear people telling us to drink more water and to stay in the shade but whenever we have heatwaves there are always those who don’t take proper care, many of whom pay the ultimate price. There have been a number of drownings in rivers already. A few years ago there were multiple drownings just down the road from us in Camber which seemed especially odd as you have to walk for miles to be able to swim at low tide because it is so shallow there. It might be a laugh to people like Batman, but hopefully the warnings will help save lives.

By “normal people” I was referring to people who Turkish would define as not, by the look of them, abusing fast food outlets on a daily basis. Of course fat people are normal people. I’m not the one calling out people’s lifestyle choices here but if you want to hitch your wagon to his ideology go ahead and enjoy the ride.

I spoke to a guy today who knows a senior manager in the NHS in the south east. He says that staff are leaving in droves putting more pressure on those remaining. He also said that their are two more different strains of Covid about to land which they think will cause major problems for the Service in the autumn/winter. The ambulance service seems to be on its knees already. Grim. Still, at least our current PM can leave office with his head held high. As for people taking responsibility for themselves, I have spent a lot of time in my local doctors surgery and hospital over the last few years and have seen plenty of people in waiting rooms. I don’t know if they smoke, drink excessively and/or eat poorly but the vast majority of them are not what you would call obese, they just look normal. The human body relies on millions of things working properly all of the time to work efficiently. The graveyard is full of people who had healthy lifestyles but had died well before their three score years and ten just as there are people who smoke, drink and eat poorly who live to a ripe old age and have rarely have need of the NHS. A&E units are full of people who have accidents playing football, doing DIY etc. Should we point the finger at them for putting themselves in harms way too? We live in an imperfect world and the NHS has to have the resources to deal with it.
-
But he doesn’t, ever, which is the point 🙄
-
Yes I know that. I was making a different point. This thread is about “things that are racist” and I was referring to a poster who only posts about sex crimes when they are committed by “foreigners.”
-
No Whelk, I haven’t missed the point. My point is that, as we know, there is a huge problem around the sexual exploitation of women and girls but you will only see Batman post about it when the perpetrators have a different coloured skin or are foreign. It is admirable that Batman should be concerned about the plight of women and girls in the UK but perhaps his concern should extend beyond the particular race or religion of those causing the sexual abuse?

Apparently she is very popular amongst the party members, although not many could pick her out from her picture. If they don’t stitch her up she will give Sunak a run for his money. She managed to slip in a Thatcher and Falklands reference too which will give Duckie a stiffie. Had to laugh at Johnson saying any of the 8 will “wipe the floor” with Starmer having had his arse handed to him on a plate at every PMQs. Leaving with his head held high too 😂
-
There, there Batman. It’s okay. They have no need to. There are always plenty of people like you to be outraged for the rest of us. But while you are at it, perhaps be outaged by the white males who also rape and sexually assault women and young girls? Haven’t you got better things to do, like arranging a petition to have Sir Mo Farah stripped of his knighthood? This will upset you but I suggest you read it… https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/2020/dec/15/child-sexual-abuse-gangs-white-men-home-office-report

The Mail has long been the most odious newspaper in the UK which is going some to beat The Sun into second place. Funny to see them turning their guns onto Sunak now and stoking up a civil war in the Rory ranks. They even got a front page dig in at Javid but in using Patel it kind of backfired as she didn’t stand as it would appear she had less support than him. As you say, it will be good if Sunak wins as they will need to divide their front pages up between attacking Sunak and Starmer. Leaves them in a bit of a quandary at the next election!

How long before Batman comes on and questions whether Mo Farah should be relocated to Rwanda? 🤔
