Terrorist Attacks - WARNING: CONTAINS DISTRESSING IMAGES
sadoldgit replied to sadoldgit's topic in The Lounge
Be careful, Batman gets very touchy around the subject of racism. As we speak he is probably looking for stories to post about how migrants are dying or being mistreated. There must be dozens of them in the Daily Mail. -

What colour would that be Jamie? -
I don't think you have to be of any political persuasion to see that the media (certainly the press) is mainly right wing.
-
If news is reported in a factual way I don't think that bias applies. Of course, as soon as someone ventures an opinion then you can say that opinion is open to bias. Columnists are paid to be biased in the most part are they not?
-
To be fair to the Beeb, other news organisations also reported that including Reuters.
-
Not at all clever, especially following the other recent sending off. Goodness knows what goes through the guys head but he has let the team and the club down again. You don't want to lose decent players but if he goes in the summer will it be a great loss?
-
I would agree with this. The press is very biased in the main whereas I think the reporting on TV and the radio is more balanced. The BBC gets stick for being run by a load of lefties but I think it is fairly balanced in its news reporting.

Advertising is a multi million pound industry because advertising works. There is an element of the population that is swayed by what it reads or what it hears. I don't know what percentage of the population are floating voters but imagine that the figure is fairly high. The Sun put a lot of editorial space into portraying Ed Milliband as a complete idiot. They wouldn't have done that if they were not trying to influence people to vote certain way. In 1992 The Sun produced their famous (or infamous) headline "It Was The Sun Wot Won It." Their election day headline was "If Kinnock wins today will the last person to leave Britain please turn out the lights." Newspapers were originally owned by Press Barons who, by nature, were Tory supporters. The only true Labour newspaper is The Mirror. The Guardian is owned by the Scott Trust and is not aligned to any political party although liberal in nature and does attract a Left readership. The Independent gets its money from the City but doesn't seem to be aligned to any party. Interestingly they took 100k readers from The Guardian upon launch. The Mail, Express, Telegraph, Times and Sun are all firmly Tory although The Times and Sun came out for Blair in 2005. Do people read papers according to their political allegiance? Many clearly do although many people say they read The Sun just for its sport coverage for example. Some buy a particular paper for its crossword. Some buy a paper out of habit. By law of averages there will be an element who read papers that do not reflect their political allegiance. In an ideal world the media would present things in a balanced and fair way but we do not live in an ideal world and most of the media works to an agenda, especially the media owned by Murdoch who displays a unstinting desire to mould the world his way.

There will never be equality in the Press regarding political alignment but no matter which way you vote, it should be a concern that the Left has so little Press support in this country. It is also a nonsense that Murdoch has so much media ownership. He has enormous editorial power and again, no matter which way you vote, the fact that one man holds so much sway should be a worry to us all.

Oh, so other games means something else?

A white Chicago police officer who fatally shot a black teenager last December is suing his family for $10m claiming emotional distress (he also killed the boys neighbour in the process). Unbelievable.

If find you use of the word irony very ironic Hypo. The original post had nothing to do with you either but you chose to have a pop at Always again. I joined in because you treat me the same way as you do him. If you are feeling ganged up on perhaps you will get some idea of how it feels when you and your buddies pick on people. The question about OCD was not a jibe, it was a genuine question. I was just trying to work out why you post the way you do. It is ok for you to call me a pathological liar and a bit thick but I cant suggest you have a personality disorder? Hmmm, ok. I notice too that you are now starting to call you a hypocrite, right after I was saying that you were a hypocrite (by the way, have you found where I said that Maidstone was like Cologne - yep something you made up Hypo. Something you accuse me of remember?). You say that you have answered a "multitude" of bone headed questions from me. No you haven't. You completely avoid the questions about posting on Sotonians. Why is that? You go into one when I don't answer your questions yet feel happy to ignore mine, yet I am the one running away? Come on Hypo, given the way you have had a dig about the commie Sotonians forum why not tell us all why you seem to post there with a different persona now and again and then vanish for a while. Not a difficult question is it? If it is your ex girlfriend just say so. It would certainly make sense.
-
Yes, but then I would miss him if he wasn't there. He has become like a security blanket. It is sweet how Hypo is always there for Batman. I don't know if they are friends but there is clearly a bond between them. What I find interesting about Hypo is that he gets very wound up about things he does himself. He accuses me of not answering questions but goes very quiet whenever I mention his posts on Sotonians. Personally I don't think it is him posting on the other forum because the Hypo over there seems like a decent person. Rumour has it it is his ex girlfriend posting as him! LOL. He also refused to answer me when I asked if he had OCD. There is no shame in that. David Beckham has admitted he has OCD. My wife has mild OCD. Plenty of people have it. It would certainly explain his behaviour though.

And you my friend have not evolved beyond that playground. By the way, after your brief return to Sotonians you seem to have given up again. Why is that?
