  1. I remember flying to Seattle out of Heathrow when the Gulf War had just kicked off. There were tanks and armoured cars around the airport and rumours that there were plans to bring down a plane flying out of London with a surface to air missile. I was more than concerned when we took off and was a very happy bunny when the plane landed in Seattle in one piece. I am always happy when I get to my destination in one piece. Given what had just happened you'd think these fekkers would show a bit more class. As the old saying goes, better late here than early in the hereafter!

  3. I think that you will find that the early leavers start the debate every 5 months.
  4. If we can sign Stek permanently, move Gazza on for a decent up n coming keeper and give Kelvin a job doing something else I would be a happy bunny.
  5. Does it really matter if other teams are interested in any of our players? Take it as a compliment and move on. Ron has said, barring unforeseen circumstances, that he isn't looking to sign anyone in January. He would hardly let Pelle go without signing a replacement but not only that, he clearly sees Pelle, Tadic and Mane as our attack. Given that Pelle is pivotal in that role why sell just because a club is allegedly interested?
  6. Hardly surprising given the way he is being portrayed in the media. Perhaps he needs to start putting his old chap in a dead pigs mouth or lying over tax credits. Funny that the Sun hasn't made such a huge fuss about those issues but gets itself into a lather about an antiquated dirge and the angle of a bow. I am no Labour supporter but I am fed up with the way that we are being manipulated by the media. Lets deal with the proper issues that face the country and stop playing the man as happened with Milliband too. It is all just a big diversion and Murdoch especially needs to keep the Tories in power to maintain his own power base.
  7. My FaceBook pages have been full of the "angle of the bow" outrage (which apparently was the same as the Queen's bow). Funny how Corbin's other activities on the day didn't get as much media coverage. Not a Labour supporter but I think the way he is treated by the Tory press is rubbish.
  8. Ronaldo has nothing to worry about, he is the biggest knob on the planet!
  9. I have never left early so no, but have missed several goals whilst nipping off for a p*ss though!
  10. Lets face it, even if we have dodged a bullet (or a bomb) us Brits still love to moan about travel chaos.
  11. For info, on BBC Radio 4 this evening on the Analysis programme they looked at the issue of whether using psychology could help in solving long running conflicts. To quote the blurb - "Conflicts can involve different nations and religions, different races and classes. Some of them seem intractable: the tensions and hatred seem depressingly permanent. But there are a number of social psychologists who have been studying how prejudice and distrust between groups can be overcome." Well, well, an alternative to mass killings and destruction. Who knew? It was on at 8:30 tonight and is available on podcast.

  13. Welcome to the world of SKY football dominance and the rise of The Global Plastics!
  14. tongue in cheek? In an ideal world any gay person should be able to feel that they can live their lives in a normal way without having to make some big public pronouncement about their sexuality. Unfortunately the world is far from ideal and although the vast majority of people will probably work out that, by law of averages, a number of professional footballers will be gay, it still seems to be "an issue." It will continue to be "an issue" until someone famous comes out. It will be made a huge fuss of for a while until someone decides what the next big issue will be and then we will all be talking about that.
  15. I guess that some people have a difficult journey and want to head off earlier but I wouldn't leave a play or a movie before the end and it is the same with football. Why wouldn't you want to see the full production? Especially nowadays when so many goals are scored after 90 mins.
  16. Anyone can show class when winning, it is how people act in adversity that shows their true measure IMHO. JM is behaving like a true narcissist now that things are not going so well for him. They love being on the pedestal, being "the special one," but once they are no longer worshipped they loose the plot big time and him will eventually go somewhere else where he will be on a pedestal again for a while. He has no humility and because he has to believe that he is perfect he will not take any responsibility for his actions. Any normal decent human being makes mistakes and loses it now and again. But they realise that they have been an ar5e, aplologise and move on. JM will never apologise because he believes that he is always right. Personally I hope that he doesnt get sacked and that Chelsea finish in the bottom half of the table and win nothing. That will hurt his pride more than being sacked. If he gets sacked he will play the martyr and find a way of making it not his fault.
  17. Or Leeds! Unless you have an endless pot of money this is one of football's great poison chalices. Once a huge club yes, but getting them back there is not such an easy job.
  18. It is good to see him improve with each game. Ron is clearly a big fan of his and if he does go on to be a better player than Morgan was for us then that is a bonus and will go to prove that no one is irreplaceable.
  19. I cant look at Garth Crooks without thinking of Yoda.
  20. Indeed. Also I feel that SFC has gone back to being a nice friendly family club again which is one of the reasons I started supporting the club (back in 1966 when I lived in London) in the first place. If I wanted some Corporate Project there are plenty to chose from elsewhere. Cortese and Leeds are a perfect match. I hope it happens and will be very interested to see how it plays out if it does.
  21. At the risk of incurring The Wrath of Hypo I though I would pop back and see how this debate is going. No progress then! I agree UJ that in todays society it shouldn't be a big thing. Trouble is it clearly is a big thing in professional football. Several pros have said that they know of a number of gay footballers who haven't come out because they are worried about the reaction they will get. I assume that The Mirror has done what they have done to prepare the ground for two players to come out - otherwise why not just print their names now and be done? It is a shame this didn't happen when some of the rugby guys came out but hey ho. There will be a big media fuss for a while then we will all start worrying about The Next Big Thing in the media. The more professional people in all fields come out the better though. At some point the homophobes will realise that a number of policemen, doctors, footballers, bank managers. refuse collectors, borough councillors, politicians, shop assistants, garage mechanics, paramedics, firemen etc are gay and the only thing different about them is their choice of partner.
  22. My kids step father is a Chelsea supporter and bought them all Chelsea shirts when they were younger (they are all girls by the way). When I showed them the red and white stripes they said they preferred those shirts and promptly dumped the blue shirts! Class will always out!
  23. Spot on. Korea and Vietnam spring immediately to mind. If you want a perfect example of what you get when you give our dear friends the Yankees some firepower you need look no further than the My Lai massacre. Not only do you have a good example of poking their noses in but also a perfect example of how some Americans think you should deal with unarmed civilians in a stressful situation. No doubt getting their own back on the "dinks" "gooks" and "slopes" for the kicking they took at the Little Big Horn by the "redskins."
  24. Weren't we supposed to be in for Butland a couple of years ago? He was a hot prospect then went off the boil for a bit but certainly looking good at the moment.
