Spending £1m on Morgan was a blunder???
-
Unfortunately it wasnt just Lowe. When he left the first time we were left with people with good intentions who sadly didn't not have a clue about what SFC needed to keep going. Money was wasted and the club went into free fall. But the blame culture fraternity will always blame Lowe for everything - just as they are trying to blame Ralph and Les now.

Woodward was employed for his skills in sport psychology. He was in the forefront of this thinking at the time, now many sports use those techniques. I disagree that he wanted to do things on the cheap. At the time the TV money wasn't as great as it is now. For many years we were stuck with crowds of 15K. Duncan says there was a time when he said he didn't know where the next £1 was coming from and did well to keep us up as long as he did on a shoestring. He didn't have the backing of a foreign multi millionaire but still managed to bring in many quality players (and managers). To keep the club afloat in the top flight for so long on a small revenue stream took some doing. In that time we got to a cup final, had European football yet some still like to harp on about the negatives. It wasn't all bad and it did pave the way for a brighter future.

Do you believe only Cortese could have got us out of the lower divisons? Of course not be he was the one that did it so he got the credit. Lowe and his team deserve credit for moving us into a decent stadium.

And playing hockey didn't help! I remember Souness having a pop and saying how many people in football were called Rupert! And how many were called Nicola? I got all sorts of grief for fighting his corner but I still maintain that he did a decent job for us up until it was probably too late to do anything about the downward trajectory. To keep us in the Prem on crowds on 15k took some doing. Whilst Duncan wasn't a big fan of Lowe's even he accepted that Lowe had the club at heart and was doing his best. Given the grief that Reed got over Toby it is a sad fact of life that there are some who need to find someone to blame whenever things aren't going their way. Lowe was a perfect scapegoat as. from day 1, he was seen as an outsider. Still, that is all in the past and without him we would not be where we are now, so it all worked out well.

Good as he is he is not a regular for his country and none of the major foreign teams have been in for him. Every player is replaceable. -

I agree with you. I remember the grief that Lowe got for signing him for £1m but you could see what a decent player he was and was destined for better things. I'll still hope that Manure get hammered every week but wish him well for the future. -
And you are a Saints supporter?

cant so no to MoPo and Levy? You do know that A Madrid sold Toby to Spurs and not us don't you? Who else have we sold to Spurs? As for no ambition - You are going to look very silly when Ron sees out his contract. -

I don't think they will. One or the other. -

I bet you £5 he wont go to Spurs. -
Interesting to read that Toby wanted to go to Spuds regardless of the salary.
-
Thanks for this. Very interesting read and puts to shame all those who want to believe that the club is incompetent. Or will it? I suspect the Usual Suspects will be waiting to pour scorn on the next signing as they did with our recent acquisition of a "pub player."
-
I am sure any agent worth their salt would tell the player to hold off to see what other clubs might be interested. Why tie yourself to a medium sized club when one of the big four might be waiting in the wings?
-
Alps, print this out, stick it on your fridge. Read it every day before you log on here.
-
Les Reed says he did all he could to get Toby in. AM accepted our offer but the player chose his "dream move" to Spuds. How is that Reed's fault? I despair. We are supposed to be supporting the club not picking holes in something that we had no control over. As the OP says, was nothing leant last summer?
-
Phew, just as well he didn't post the full text then!

Good call Batman, getting your bed wetting in early!
-
Last summer many bed clothes were soiled at this point and those of us with more bladder control were saying wait until the transfer window closes before you bring out the plastic sheets. Just a thought. Why not try that this summer too? There is absolutely no point in bursting a blood vessel until we know what our squad comprises of.
-
Did they though? Toby says that Tottenham is his dream move and that he always followed their results. Do you think we could match Clyne's wages at Liverpool. You know better than most how bad things were when Lowe said he didn't know where the next £ was coming from. We don't want to go down that road again do we?
-
Les, if Alpine Saint was offered a lot more money by a bigger company, do you think he would take the offer or would he stay where he was out of a sense of loyalty?
-
I have the same right to judge as you mate. And isn't sharing opinions what this forum is about? I think I have made it clear that I don't have a problem with the current Board. I do have a problem with people who seem to think that running a club the size of SFC is a piece of p*ss and that they could do better.
-
Here is a question for you Alpine. Given that Toby clearly wanted to sign for Spurs and Clyne was clearly not going to sign a new contract, what you do suggest that Les should have done differently to make them change their minds?
-
Les, there are a number of people on an internet forum who think you are crap at your job and that they can do better. Would you consider job sharing with them so that they can pass on the benefit of their wisdom to you? Can you start with Alpine Saint please?
-
Then perhaps people should ask the genuine questions and not behave like babies who have lost their dummies.
