I missed it BTF but thanks for the link. My daughter is in Devon with her mother at the moment but is coming to stay for a few days over the weekend so I am looking forward to catching up with her and finding out how she is doing. Thanks again. Should add that my mother had an eating disorder when younger and so did my daughter's mother - so could well be a genetic link!

Long may now be playing in a team that can give him more and better chances - thought of that? Why not wait and see what he can do for us? After all, Osvaldo came with a rep for scoring goals and look how that turned out!
-
I agree with this. I also doubt that he is a "panic buy" or that Les is feeling uncomfortable. We hear that Long has been a target back when Cortese and Pochettino were here so clearly on the radar. We are working our way down a list and I dont see a problem with that at all. The fact that we have gone for Hernandez and Rojo (and Forster) show we have ambition which many were doubting. The reason we are losing out to other clubs is because the other clubs are Manchester United and Inter Milan. We will end up with a solid if unspectacular squad but, if Koeman does see out his full contract, I would hope that we will build on what we have and get even stronger over the next few years.

Thank you. I received a lot of really helpful support when I mentioned that my daughter is anorexic so am more than happy to give support back if anyone needs it re depression. people need to speak up. There are so many out there and we need to get rid of the stigma.
-
Sorry to hear things arent going so well but hope you are getting support? And you are spot on, it can, and does happen to any of us.

I think every team can look at games where they could have done better but also there could be games where we should have lost but nicked it. I am sure Spuds are kicking themselves over not getting 4th spot. If we had bought another striker instead of Osvaldo who knows. If Boruc hadnt got injured. If Puncheon had stayed. Ifs and buts and all down to hindsight.

Perhaps it has a different connotation in Romania?

Sorry, havent meant to hijack this thread, it is just I have had some experience in this area and hope it helps a bit.

It is a very difficult area SO16. If you havent experienced it or had someone very close to you experience it it is difficult to get your head around. The people who have to deal with the aftermath (as per your Dad, relatives, friends etc) are also left with someawful stuff to deal with which, as you say, is why many consider it a selfish act. The thing is, if people were thinking rationally they would do it (well you'd hop not). In my case I had three little girls under 5 years old. In my head I "rationalised" that, as they were so young, they wouldn't miss me so much. My ex was pretty good at picking up men so I also "rationalised" that they would soon have another, maybe better, Dad. Breaks my heart to think back to those days but that gives you some kind of idea about what goes on in the head of someone who has lost the plot. I know is sounds like an easy way out but believe me, to get to that point in your life it is not easy at all. To get to that point you have to be really desparate.

Does he have a fit sister?

Thanks for adding this KRG. Good article. In The Priory they used to make a point of telling us that we were stonger than we thought we were. This on the basis that we had gone beyond the point where most people would just give up to the point where the wheels we well an truly off of the wagon and our systems could take no more. I was lucky enough to have insurance as The Priory doesnt come cheap and I received excellent support. A cousin of mine wasnt so lucky and, a number of years before I was ill, took her own life. We knew she had issues but didnt realise how bad things were. Spike Milligan suffered from depression and did Tony Hancock. A number of comedians seem to fall foul of this disease which makes it even stranger as you'd think they were having fun! Given the numbers you can be sure that many people on here are depressed (and I am not having a cheap pop at the so called bedwetters). This is an area that needs greater understanding (clearly Mr Brazil could do with some enlightenment) and it is good to see articles such as this being published.

I am Gardos and so is my wife.

Should add that having lots of possession makes people feel good because their team sees a lot more of the ball. If you dont put it in the net though it all counts for nothing - and that is something that Pochettino needs to sort out.
-
Sometimes you end up at the right place at the right time. Lawrie Mac did very well here but tried the same at Sunderland and came unstuck. Perhaps if they had given him more time it would have worked, we shall never know. We shall aso never know if he (Poch) could have taken us further but we will find out what he can do with Spuds. There is no doubt that he managed to get the best of of a number of players (not all though) and he did well in his one full season here. The fact remains though that he has yet to win anything. Talk to Fergie about potential and realising potential - Pochettino now has to deliver and he wont do that by playing weakened teams in FA cup matches

A few photos of the Dell and one or two faces you might know.

The Dell was a dump but you couldnt beat the atmosphere! -
Hoddle seems to be saying he cant do it full time as he has other jobs so I expect that Bond and Jordan will sort the cones and the training bibs out for him.

What is the point of sport? It is something for us to do or watch to help pass the time in a hopefully pleasurable way until we shuffle off this mortal coil. If we stop getting pleasure from it for whatever reason (like people we have never met leaving and going somewhere else) then perhaps we should consider looking for pleasure elsewhere? -
Is he though? He did seem to be a bit of a one trick pony and I did wonder how he would deal with more and more teams working out how to counter the high pressing game. His tactics worked well away from home but all too often we came unstuck at home against weaker opposition. Perhaps with better players in depth he will show us what he is made of. He did luck out when he came to us as the basis was already there. He without doubt built on that. Different situation at Spuds so will be very interested to see how he gets on there!

Indeed Minty. RWs death is no less tragic than any other person taking their own life - it is just that he is well known so it becomes a taking point. The issue here is about depression and how it doesnt seem to be recognised as a serious illness.
-
In which case it will be interesting to see Spuds win everything this year and Poch goes on to maange Argentina and win the world cup. We finished mid table and got dumped out of the cups yet the man is a footballing genious? Remind me again JRod about how much Poch has won in the game please.

Mates with Alan Brazil by any chance?
-
Some good stuff there. Perhaps some good will come out of Brazil's rant. People need to understand what an nasty, insidious illness depression is.
-
Just Googled Brazil and it seem he has previous for ranting on about depression on his show back in 2011. he clearly has no understanding of what it is. Strange as apparently he was "fiddled with" whilst at Celtic in the 70s so you'd think he would have some understanding how things can affect you.

That seems to imply that the players wouldnt have gone if Cortses and Pochettino had stayed and that is something we will never know. What we do now is that the money wasnt there for a challenge for the top four so it is hard to see those like Lallana and Lovren staying in a mid table set up.
