Yes losing to Burnley (or did we draw?) meant we were relegated and points were deducted the following season. Angry pitch invasion followed I think?

They are great when we win and terrible when we lose. Saying that, the FA Cup game in 2010 when we were in L1 wasn't as bad as the scoreline suggests, we did alright, especially in the first half when David James kept them in it with some great saves and then in the week that they'd been handed a transfer ban they got round it with that loan player who came on as sub and caught us on the break as we were trying to get level.

That is the exact problem that the "other side" have as well though. I am not saying I agree with everything our club legend Matt Le Tissier is saying but I don't see everything as black and white, there are grey areas, I am up for healthy debate and listening to two sides of an argument. In a supposedly tolerant society it would seem that a lot of people really aren't all that tolerant.

Good points. Is he really talking more nonsense than the people who shut down parts of the economy, made people walk in a one way direction around shopping centres, restricted how many times we were allowed to go outside to exercise, couldn't meet on a public bench, were only allowed to buy a pint if we were having a meal, the list goes on and on? I don't think people's minds are going to be changed about restrictions, some people loved being paid not to go to work and lounge around in the garden all summer but I think it's important to have debate and that means considering both sides of the argument. Matt Le Tissier has been the best footballer I've ever seen play for Southampton and he remained loyal to the club throughout his whole playing career, his status as a football pundit is so low now that he'll be unlikely to get another decent job doing that so fair play to him for standing by his convictions on this whether people believe him or not.

Good day out and obviously great to see us win but I would absolutely love to witness us win the FA Cup there in my lifetime (not being alive in 1976), having seen us lose the ZDS and 2003 finals I wonder if I will live to see it.

It says Championship clubs here but I wonder if we'll be back in for a previous target Brandon Williams?

Picked up an injury - I read somewhere (possibly shoulder)

I think we'll be able to find clubs to take our players but doubtful at a good price or favourable terms for us. With Bednarek, obviously Villa took him on loan but West Ham were also in the market for him so there were offers but also likely to be late in the window leaving us little/no time to replace. The three players I'd want to keep would be JWP, KWP and Lavia but they will be most likely to leave and have the most suitors.

Given how much improved we were returning after the 2020 lockdown this would have been a much better bet - giving Ralph the equivalent time to work with the squad - than hiring the Luton Town manager. We returned after the World Cup break playing worse than before, I struggle to believe that would have happened if we'd kept the same manager. Alternatively, we could have aimed our sights a bit higher or employed someone who fits the model of the club, the most confusing part for me is not necessarily why we sacked Ralph but why we appointed Nathan Jones.

The trouble with "on another day" is that we haven't got that many more. We need to be picking up points, especially at home in winnable games, if there is to be a realistic chance of survival.

I'm not sure that a 4ft left back was what we needed on the last deadline to help us in the fight for relegation - but he used to be in the Man City youth team so he must be good (presumably that trumps anything else in our scouting department).

That's a hilarious article, thanks for sharing.

Ralph's first four games in charge: Cardiff 1 - 0 Southampton Southampton 3 - 2 Arsenal Huddersfield 1 - 3 Southampton Southampton 1 - 2 West Ham 50% win record in league games and definitely noticed an improved performance. Jones has been a disaster and I just can't see it improving.

This is the part I'm most confused about. We sign Man City kids, various staff from City and then we employ Nathan Jones in the most important job for the first team - the figurehead for the club doing interviews before and after each match, the most direct influence on tactics, training, formation and substitutions, etc. - someone that they wouldn't even trust to hand out the bibs 😕
-
Forest have played 8 away games this season, scored 1 goal and drawn twice. Unfortunately, we always seem to be willing hosts for teams to break these bad records, a player on a goalless streak etc. we all know what's going to happen.

Do you want Nathan Jones to Manage Southampton Football Club?
Green replied to Rivers's topic in The Saints
As noted the club do not care about what the fans think so it doesn’t really matter but for me it’s a definite no. I just can’t see what would make anyone think that Nathan Jones has what it takes to be a top flight manager and appointing him would be a huge mistake. It’s sad to look at the quality of manager going to clubs such as Brighton and Wolves while we scratch around in the reduced prices section keeping our fingers crossed that he might be a bargain buy. -
Everton on 1st October will be the last 3pm Saturday kick off at home for 2022.

Links to defenders - does this mean we haven't seen the end of the 3 at the back experiment?
-
Can anyone send a link to telegram please?

Yes in his book he says his agent told him Southampton were interested and he said: “What the f***! Southampton! Is that my level? Southampton!”
-
To be fair to Gunn, I remember him having a really good game away at Chelsea where he kept a clean sheet. I'm not sure Davis ever had a game as good as that in the PL. For me Forster at his best was our best PL keeper and then Boruc, not really sure there's much between the others.
-
We really were useless in 2017/18.
-
Remember him blasting in a free kick against Cardiff (?) at home. Went on to have a decent career after he left us as well.

Interesting analysis, probably better than what's been in the athletic this season.
