Funnily enough, one of the best schools in the country is in Shirley Warren. They may not be top of the league tables but their Ofsted results put them in the top 10%. Ofsted mark a school on a number of criteria and award marks between 1 and 4. Most schools are delighted to get a 2. Shirley Warren got 1's in every category due to outstanding work with their intake, many of which come into the school with little english.

Just got Agincourt from the library and enjoyed what I've read so far. Also reserved the new Stephen King. 11.23.63 about the JFK assassination.

Depends what you're after ie. a flat or a house with a garden. Any kids (schools to consider). I live in Upper Shirley near the Common and Sports Centre. Good range of local shops and takeaways. Quick access to the motorways or into town. Reasonable bus service if you don't want to take the car. My nipper went to Hollybrook Infants and Juniors which were fine. Upper Shirley High (ex Bellemoor) has a good reputation after a short dodgy period. We like it here. Never had any problems. Only thing I don't like are the number of good family houses being bought up to be demolished and blocks of apartments taking their place.

You certainly have a way with words. if you continue to express your views with such scintillating logic and well-reasoned argument, you could get a job on the Daily Mail.

Toxteth and Brixton in '81, Poll Tax in '90 and now Tottenham. You only get decent riots under the Tories.

There's a free labour market in the EU. The Eastern Europeans have got off their arses and come to a foreign country to work. They get the jobs because they turn up on time and work hard. Channel 4 did a programme last year from Lincolnshire where there is a large population of migrant workers on the farms. While some of the locals moaned about them "taking our jobs", when they took a local farmer down to the Job Centre he couldn't find one person to work on his farm. They didn't want to start work at 6.00 or be outside when it was cold and wet (the poor things).

Usual garbage from the Mail. The jobs patently aren't out there. ONS figures show unemployment at approx 2.45m and vacancies at 420k, so if all vacancies were filled there'd still be 2m out of work. Still, the Mail never lets the facts get in the way of good rant. He refers the the rioters as "they" as though they were one amorphous group all from the same background. It's clear from the procession going through the courts that they come from a wide variety of backgrounds, ages and ethnic groups.

Jensen received a large amount of funding from the Pioneer Group, which that lefty rag -The Sunday Telegraph - described as "a neo-Nazi organisation closely integrated with the far right of American politics. So it could be argued that he has an incentive to give them what they want.

Schrodinger's Kittens : And the Search For Reality Mind-stretching stuff about quantum physics. Does a reasonable job in putting it in terms that a thicko like me can understand.

But we've just seen Dave's Big Society in action. Bands of citizens joining together to better themselves. They don't rely on Government to fulfill their needs, They use their initiative and help themselves (to flatscreen TVs and anything else from a broken shop window).

What, a senile 85-year old woman? You don't think much of Cameron, then?

I met her once. She's a lot shorter than you think.

I still have my old seat and a piece of the Dell pitch is growing happily in my lawn.

Interesting copper's view on the situation. http://inspectorgadget.wordpress.com/ He points out that officers asked for assurance that they would not be "served up like PC Harwood" if they charged the rioters and a rioter was injured. Senior officers would not give that assurance.

Just after the game started, probably about 5:20 ish. He did look as if he'd been hurrying.

Saw him at the Rose Bowl on Sunday. He got a round of applause as he made his way to his seat.

I used to be involved with marine trials work on fast craft on the Solent and some of the yachties are a menace. They still believe in "sail before steam" regardless of the fact that a tanker can take miles to stop and many minutes to change course.

Times have changed since the days of the "gentleman" directors such as Alan Woodford, Basil Bowyer and George Reader. You need a hard-nosed businessman at the helm and that's what we've got. He doesn't need to be popular - he's judged by results and he's doing OK so far.

City of Liverpool cruise terminal: Turnaround operations consultation

As someone commented on the Echo website, any liner calling at Liverpool will be found up on bricks with the propellers missing. -
Has he been seen in Sainsburys yet? Or would he be a Waitrose type?
