  1. In my seat (Row 5) under the East Stand at The Dell when some donkey whacked the ball into touch which hit me square on the nose resulting in a copious nosebleed.
  2. The estimated cost of the Royal Wedding to industry was about £5bn whereas today could cost £0.5bn. But at least the government is on the right track with rising growth (oh, it's not), borrowing less (oh, they're increasing it) and falling unemployment (oops, it rising). So less tax revenues, more spent on benefits.
  3. I was going to Paris on Eurostar with wife and son. Got to Waterloo and realised I didn't have the tickets. Cost me £45.00 in total for replacement tickets (but my son did see Eric Cantona lurking in the booking hall and got his autograph).
  4. I would say 2 pages. The first page is all important, it will decide if the person reading it will bother to go any further. Be concise, put all important information on the first page ie. recent employment history, main qualifications etc. Don't waffle, don't lie but accentuate the positive.
  5. Saw him at Wembley Stadium in '88. Came on at 6pm finished at 10.30. An experience not to be missed.
  6. The bloke behind me was singing "we can see you mincing out" as the Brightons fans started to leave after the 3rd goal.
  7. Agreed. As the state is paying them, they should work for the benefit of the community, doing work that would otherwise not be done. They should not be effectively subsidising a private company. I'm sure that small shopkeepers will be delighted that the government is giving their competitors free labour.
  8. Didn't they do a cover of the Beatles' "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" ?
  9. Many years ago myself and a colleague had to give a demonstration of some technical equipment to Terry Duffy who was then leader of the Engineering Union and was visiting the company. He was a very affable bloke and when we finished we said jokingly "Don't we get a tip then?" He said "I'll give you a tip. Stay away from women, they're nothing but trouble".
  10. Breach of the Peace is a very wooly law. You can be arrested if, in the opinion of a police officer, you remaining where you are is likely to cause a breach of the peace. It's not a criminal offence, more a preventative measure.
  11. Jolly decent of them to show their respect on Armistice Day. Near the Cenotaph as well.
  12. Presumably this was the infamous Portswood Link - a motorway standard road into the centre of town. It was eventually modified and downgraded and became Thomas Lewis Way but for many years in the 70s a lot of properties in Portswood and St Denys were virtually unsaleable as it was planned that the road would pass nearby.
  13. I think it's late 80s. The chocolate boxes had gone and the Milton was one big terrace. Also the other picture I posted from the same time shows the Lower East Stand when it was divided between bench seats at the Milton end and terraces at the Archers.
  14. He can't be in the EDL because his neck isn't wider than his head..
  15. What's your wife like then?
  16. Bit of a revolution when they first opened at Eastleigh in the mid 70s. No other retailer had such a range at such competitive prices. Unfortunately, when they got absorbed into Currys, PC World etc they became box shifters and they dropped the high-quality brands.
  17. When in opposition, Theresa May said: "Ministers must stop blaming officials when something goes wrong in their department"
  18. Back in the Dell days there was usually a reserve game on Saturday afternoon when the first team were away. Free to season-ticket holders. If you had small kids, it was a good way of seeing if they would be interested before taking them to a first-team game.
  19. 32 wins, 27 by knockout. Only lost to Ali and Foreman. One of the greats.
  20. If you get that wound up over a TV news programme, I think that you should seek medical help.
  21. And another one...
  22. Nostalgia is not what it used to be
  23. I too have a weakness for Sugar Puffs but as a token gesture to healthy eating, I mix them with Special K or muesli.
  24. You certainly went the long way round.
  25. Back in the 90's when my nipper was small we used to go to the display at Wordsworth School in Shirley. They had a huge bonfire and a really good display along with hotdogs, burgers etc. Only a couple of quid, always very well attended and raised a useful amount for the school. The the 'elf'n'safety lot got involved, the bonfire was banned and they had to take out very expensive insurance. It was therefore no longer viable and so they gave up.
