It has many plusses in a symbolic nature and as you rightly say fans could not then ay about putting money in his pocket etc. Personally I believe all the normal complimentary tickets should be withdrawn except for the bank and people who actually sponsor parts of the club ie Ford McDonalds ,Orchard homes.

If only you were exaggerating,he was poor, but his goal was crucial and many fans didnt rate Bobby Stokes and his goal was priceless.
-
I see where you are coming from but it would only be criticised if he did. There would be posts of 'well he can afford it' etc etc it wouldnt gain much for the club.Although if it meant more fans turning up it would be a brilliant idea, and constructive. i wonder if the club have sold any advertising in the corners like I suggested to them?

I remember the Eric Martin incident now you mention it. The Rosenberg game was our first in Europe Ithink. Typical Saints not knowing the rules about the kits.Nowadays they just go to the store and get a set of away kit but in those days we were not so privilaged to have them to hand so easily. That is why there ar no Saints shirts signed by the players about as they were rarely given away.

The result I must have mixed up in my head with the Newcastle game as I mentioned going out on away goals. The rain I remember vividly.I was only 10 or 11 and so time blurs some of these things. Was the Newcastle 0-0 away and 1-1 home? I know it something like that. Europe to me at that time didnt seem to have the importance that the FA cup did, but as I was only a kid I wouldnt have understood if it meant much then

I only ever saw Curran look any good on two occoasions.Leeds when he scored to put us in the final and then against us when he played for Everton in that cruel game as he nullified Mark Dennis's attacking threat.

Just reminiscing, others on here would have been at the game and they may also recall that very wet night.

OSM you have been away a few days and I really do believe you have a problem.Your posts are so bizarre.

Seeing that the Skates have got them in the cup, it takes me back to when we played them (I assume it is the team we played in the late 60's early 70's) All I recall from the night is walking to the game from school in pouring rain, the rain getting worse us losing on away goals (?) and then getting a boll#### for staying there and getting absolutely soaked during the game and on the walk home with my brother..My mum put rolled up paper in my shoes hoping to get a lot of the damp out as I had school the next day.Boy was it uncomfortable wearing those damp shoes the next day. Only one pair of schoolshoes in those days, they were Clarks bought in St Marys Street.

I cant see why he would value Pompey at £300m. I suggest he said that to get his figures up to make him feel better. You have to take your hats off to Pompey one of their fans must have found a lamp and gave it a rub and a genie came out. When you look at all the clubs in the country that could be bought and they were purchased. If I was in the authorities Id be mightily suspicious why, perhaps its easy to launder money through it. Even the most rose tinted glassed Skate would see if they had the money why buy them when they could have bought one of the big clubs that already had the structure and fanbase, Spurs, Arsenal spring to mind. Its dirty money in a dirty world.
-
Are Pompey going to keep getting crowds of 19k or 20+ if so the average will surely come down. Stu has the trump card last day of the season in the relelgation dog fight he will have a 32k gate to lift his averages

I dont understand all this love in with NP, he was OK not great but OK.

As I put earlier I dont know who was chairman when Rasiak was signed, I will accept it was lowe if you say so. We had many discussions about RL and his lack of backing the team, and you questioned his 'war chest' by your post you must now accept RL did have money put aside to invest in the squad. The first full season we did get to the playoffs and after that it was obvious that the parachute payments were coming to an end, to me nothing was done to make contingency plans to start cutting costs. The whole Wilde bunch are culpable including LC (I respect himas he was the only one of them to put his hand in his own pocket] but he still did not act quickly and decisivily to cut costs.Yes he went and got Theo's fee paid up at a much reduced rate quickly and may have done some others as well for the short term, it seems RL has done the same. This 4 year period has been one of the saddest episodes in the clubs history,no one comes out with any real credit and unfortunately we have a sack of snakes and who dares to put their hand in to pull one of them out. (I include all the hangers on in the background who take the perksand give little back)
-
I can see what you are getting at regarding other Wottons, especially if we could get some c/bs in that mould. It all bolis down to how much each would cost us, but to have a couple more would be good.I myself was surprised that Euell was not mixed into the squad especially as he got stuck in.
-
well its 1 more than I thought.
-
it is sad times for the city.IMO the council was too worried debating where to put the next set of traffic lights instead of doing what Portsmouth did which was to woo business away from us and made the economy strong before worrying about the more social issues.
-
RL obviously was in part at fault, but only part it is a complex arguement and there are so many others factors. The disaster of relegation came and we knew as a club that the parachute payments would stop. If your bank told you that the loan only was to last 2 years would you wait until the eve of its recall to make the plans to get ready to py it back? I doubt it as you probably are more responsible than that.
-
Perhaps the real culprits were the buffoons who think they are very streetwise who ran into the arms of the Wilde bunch when they were warned to sit back and really examine what was really on the table. Its easy to criticise fans like U&P and have a higher than mighty attitude but yours like all of of us are opinions and none of us have the full facts. As for LC who you hold in great esteem, he was in the chair for a short period but crucial period and he was also in the boardroom making votes while the parachute payments were coming to an end.He would also have santioned quite a few of the expensive contracts that we are having trouble unloading. Planning ahead does not seem to have been on the agenda as the costs spiralled and losses mounted but cuts and measures were not made to try and soften some of the pain now. The whole sorry tale has lots of villains but the innocents in all this the everyday fan has to pick up the pieces, very much like in the world now where the bankers had a merry time and now expect the taxpayer to bail them out. Its ok for financial people to think they know it all , they might know how to lend money but that doesnt mean they are any good competent in any other facet of life/business.

Are you saying that we didnt punch above our weight when we were stuck in a ground reduced in capacity by the Taylor report Or when we signed KK ? We punched above our weight period, and great credit goes to the club for doing so. As for Rochdale comment, why is that wrong I could have put Exeter or any other team that has never had any success and not been privilaged like we have. I cant see any problem with that I hardly am comparing them with us or saying our away fans are foolish unlike some have.

It was on the radio news, but of course I might have heard it wrong but it was on Radio 1....oh I should have realised

You are the bravest of the brave behind the keyboard. You cant afford a fiver to pay to be a full member so go and play somewhere else. Funny how you disappeared when things were not looking great at FP you only slink back when you think you can crow.It says a lot about what a complete tool you are. Yellowstreak.

So 32000k turned up because of NP's team playing exhillerating football or to watch a potential train crash? Yes I have seen NP's recent result, like us it was a defeat, except it was home to Millwall. You went and watched Lowe disunited when we were in the PL but all of a sudden get all principalled when we got relegated. I live too much in the past but am not naive enough to think we were some kind of club with super morals. We punched above our weight, had the fortune to unearth MLT who helped keep us from this fate earlier and in a perverse way it has cost us all as had he not kept us up the stadium would not be a burden around our neck. Before some go off on one Iam not blaming MLT for the mess. I am delighted to stand with the 12000 as the dont give in as easily as some, stupid we may be but honest loyal decent people who realise that every dog has its day, that we have been privilaged to see our club in cup finals europe etc when clubs like Rochdale have never tasted even that little bit of success. Im pragmatic enough to see why RL is doing what he is doing, do you not think he'd rather be popular and have money to splash to appease us? We are in the mire and have to the best with what we have. I knew it was going to be tough but the players are giving their best shot and are not being paid obscene amounts for doing so. I hope soon you change you opinion and come back to games, the club is dying and it is when bad health comes around you find out who your real friends are, at the moment the club has only 12k friends.
