Badly selected as boufal was leaving for African nations cup after the Everton game, where he was a sub! Should of been rested against WBA. If Bertrand was ill, why was he on the bench! His selections are poor management.

Awful 2nd half, same old slow dirge...even worse against 10 men. No positives to take from this game. Puel can go on about scoring from all areas but our central midfield contribute nothing in terms of goals and the attacking midfielders do not score enough regularly. Our strikers are hopeless!

Heading for a 0-0 or 1-0 to stoke, we still look nowhere near scoring even more now against 10 men. We are just too slow in the build, need to be far more quicker and decisive.

Good win for the kids, more good experience in a competitive competition against league opposition.

Hesketh did not play!

1-0 half time. Spuds should be down to 10 men. Opine if there players got booked then moments later made a worse cynical challenge and no second yellow. Just before that saints player gets booked for a similar challenge. Decent first half, they are dangerous going forward but sims causing them real problems.

Weaker strike force, underwhelmingly disappointed

It's the lack of goals that concerns me, jrod & Austin have a lot to prove due to there injury record and long needs a good follow up season. Plenty of us were writing him off before last season, needs to get in the goals Stan but can't see it imho. Redmond is not a striker but is a good winger at best.

Once we had signed boufal so late, I didn't think we would sign anyone else. This will be a transitional season, as I expect it to be a while before our players get use to Puel's system. He is obviously happy with the strikers we have (I'm not, if the club want to continue to qualify for Europe on a regular basis via the league position. We do have good players but others have a lot to prove whether they can step up or get back form after injury.

Just hope the medical goes well....
