Reading Pilchards thread which without a doubt has been the best and most encouraging football thread I have seen on here since forever, I think there is one other person that our new owners should be trying to get back to help the "real football club revolution"

I know he left for health reasons, and have no idea on how he is these days, but I did hear he was still working back home and with the right encouragement may be available to at least come back and advise or even pray return in a full time capacity.

Georges Prost at the Academy.

He presided over it's "golden years" there seems to have been a drop in standards over the past few years across the club's coaching structure, and he (if he is well enough) would be the only real candidate to come back and apply the necessary surgery.

Can he play Right Midfield?

Hell, even I could play right midfield compared to some of late...

(but would a week off the beer be worth it?)

I'm sure I crossed at least once in my career onto the CF's head, and I do remember more than one corner beating the first defender

Meanwhile I think that getting the "production line" working again is the best way to ensure that Markus saves his cash for when we need it to "push on" in the PL in 4 years time

Geirges Prost is tied up at the moment, so how about tempting Malcolm Elias back (as he's been recently bumped out by Liverpool)??

Georges Prost was one of the best things to happen to our club, but we need to start looking forwards not backwards.

He's an old man now and deserves to enjoy life at his own pace back home in France.

We should be looking for someone from the new generation of coaches to come in and refresh the academy.

OK, how about Bob Higgins???:D

Or failing that, Simon Clifford???;)

Oh dear, had been really happy all day what with the cricket and then you go and whoosh us straight back to darkest days.

Alright so Georges can be a temporary appointment as we all know the REAL DEAL will be available at the start of the 2011 season after he finishes work at the Olympics.....

Federer of course, who'd you think I meant!

Yep, me too, and although I'm naturally right-footed I can cross with my left too...

Wasnt Prost a luvvie? ;)

Being serious though, Prost was one (probably only) Lowe's success' and I think once Lowe was gone Prost maybe lost some of the will to stay. Probably only due to Lowe putting so much emphasis on the acadamy rather than the 1st team but generally I thought Prost liked the way Lowe looked at things and didnt think it would be as good for him when he was gone.

Huw Jennings is another one we miss from the acadamy I think though. Out of the 2 I think Prost is missed more. Id be happy to see either back and building the acadamy to what it once was.

If today is anything to go by we could be calling for Andy Flower to make the jump.

Prost was not the main one reponsible for the academy golden years. That was Malcolm Elias and Huw Jennings.

My guess would be that Pards will have his own man in mind for this position !

He has no doubt worked with a number of them and is connected with others. He will build his own backroom team in the next few months and (quite rightly) will be judged on this !

  • 2 months later...

Now the Acadamy Director at Lyon. Seems quite the coup that we ever had him.

Not sure if anyone else caught it but he is interviewed briefly in the BBC Football Focus report on Prem clubs poaching French youngsters

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/football_focus/8288512.stm

Prost's bit is at 4:38.

Interesting to hear his judgment re. selling Benzema to Madrid: 'It was a lot of money...'

Interesting bringing this back up, reading AP's comments in the past days about rebuilding the Academy again.... (he must have read this thread!)

Reading between the lines I think he was implying that we were producing pretty and technical PL quality players and not focusing on teaching football intelligence.

Sure it gave us the Walcott's & Bale's, but perhaps a stready stream of capable CCC players for the next 2/3 years as well as the gems might help our development as a club.

Boy do we miss old Navyred giving us updates on the latest crop, seemed like noone had ever heard of our sub yesterday, very sad we let this forum go like that

Agreed getting George back in any capacity with the academy would be great and send out the message we are back and serious! He produced the best crop of youngsters since the Wallace/Shearer/Le Tiss days.

In the past our success was always achieved by selling on successful players and replacing them with even better younger ones such as replacing chivers with channon!

True, I always enjoyed Navyred's contributions: never quite read enough here to understand why he quit the forum, even if I got the general idea..

Mind you, he never did explain why we always recruited dwarves!

He walked away because as Lowe drove more and more youth players into the first team, they were getting slaughtered on here. Sad, really.

Georges Prost is running the formation centre at the Olympique Lyonnais,

working with real real talent like Benzema and Ben Arfa in the recent past.

Why we're talking about bringing him back when he's doing a great job at a CL club sort of baffles me.

I thought because we had no money we had to play home grown players.

I dont recall too many young players playing regularly in the side last season although some had a few games like White and Thompson who went on Loan.
