unionhotel Posted 24 July, 2009 Share Posted 24 July, 2009 I know that since the Taylor report into Hillsborough it's been a requirement that all stadia in the Prem and CCC have to be all seats but is it the case in this division. Wouldn't it be great to have a standing section again? That could raise the atmosphere - bring down the prices too! "Knees up mother Brown" anyone? unionhotel Posted 24 July, 2009 Author Share Posted 24 July, 2009 It was a whimsical if not entirely rhetorical question for those old enough to remember the thrill of standing and singing with thousands of like-minded supporters in the days before we became a 'Nanny State'. A ground could still look reasonably full with a low crowd as there would just be a slightly larger space between people.
saintfully Posted 24 July, 2009 Share Posted 24 July, 2009 I loved the terraces and would definately want them back. (It can't be that difficult to organise a standing area that isn't a death trap). Remember the atmosphere in the Dell when we scored and getting carried 10ft down the terrace by the weight of the crowd. Top!

I cannot see SFC installing a standing area only to have restate it as seating as soon as we get promoted. Good to dream though.
RonManager Posted 24 July, 2009 Share Posted 24 July, 2009 Happy days stood on The Milton under the Toomers:) Me too. when I started going, we would either go down behind the wall (I was quite short) or at the front of the chocolate boxes (you had to get there early). As I got taller I moved back up the terracing, mostly under the Toomers. The waves were brilliant.
Saint_Jonny Posted 24 July, 2009 Share Posted 24 July, 2009 Closest I come to standing is in the Northam, cant sit down at a football match its just ****. Ive done terracing at Ninian park (which will be missed), fantastic fun!

German teams have safe standing areas that can be converted to seats for Euro ties. It can be done so teams can switch between competitions or leagues. They have liked 10K allocated for standing where all the diehard fans go and the remaining 70K (or whatever is) for seating. I think it’s great personally. EDIT: I may have underestimated it being 10K… Lol. But how great does that look.
saintdownunder Posted 24 July, 2009 Share Posted 24 July, 2009 In Melbourne there building a 30,000+ football/rugby stadium that has a standing terrace at one end so everyone has the option.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 Can't sit down at football, it just doesn't seem right... That's why I got my season ticket in the Northam. I think it should be an allocated standing area. I know Exeter's ground, St. James', has one end which is terracing, is there any others in this league? ericofarabia Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 Happy days stood on The Milton under the Toomers:) Until we scored, then a quick relocation to the next available crash barrier We all live at the back of Milton Road, the back of Milton Road etc etc I hear some of the grounds in L1 are so primitive that it is standing only even in the ladies toilets

mcjwills Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 We will probably have a standing area after the first game of the season when the Millwall YOOF have ripped up all our seats and thrown them at our supporters :)
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 I'm pretty sure the majority of grounds in this division will be standing as they are pretty much as old as the game itself some of them!
paulwantsapint Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 Will the stewards still persist in attempting to get the northam to sit? Or will give us some peace?
The9 Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 To answer the OP's question, there's no all seated requirement in League One or League Two (or lower) but obviously some of the grounds in this League are for teams who've been in the CCC and Prem and they'll already be all seater. bungle Posted 26 July, 2009 Share Posted 26 July, 2009 Unfortunely, neither of the two major political parties will allow a return to any kind of standing section. The current third party, however, would allow standing to be brought back (although of course clubs would have to consider the costs of doing this, as seen in other countries it is feasible).
