1:24 [Comment From Nicko]

What do you make of Rickie Lambert signing for one of our league one rivals? Lack of ambition on Rickie's part?

1:25 Gary Jacob: Seems expensive, and Southampton have a couple of big signings next week by all account

----------------------------------------------------------------

1:33 [Comment From Turner]

Are Southampton interested in Lutons Tom Craddock?

1:33 Gary Jacob: Yes and Leicetser City too

----------------------------------------------------------------

1:51 [Comment From David-high wycombe]

1:51 Gary Jacob:

Old news, he obviously read my post on old Skates thread the day he was announced....

Wouldn't get too carried away. Anyone who reads Mediawatch on Football365 will know how often this guy is wrong.

Cannot agree more. He is regularly abused on there for having absolutely no knowledge or insight on transfers!

A quick 'Forum Search' shows that Gary Jacobs name has only ever been quoted on 3 threads - and two of those are current .

Mediawatch isn't on the forum, it's a page on the main site which is updated daily, Mon-Fri.

That's two occasions in a little over a week. I would say that is fairly regular.

I wouldn't say two mentions counts as 'regular' to be fair . The sporting jurno who's never been wrong or received any criticism is a very rare beast indeed .

This summer Mediawatch has been pretty much all about how far off the mark the Times journo's have been. As a regular contributor to F365 and a common reader, trust me when I say they are rarely of the mark.

Looks like he's ignoring my question, but:

Hi Gary- do you have any more information on the takeover front with Portsmouth?

It looks very unlikely to happen... and there were talks with intermediaries last week in an attempt to find a new buyer...

The web chat is on now

I've asked Gary Jacobs for an update on the "two big signings next (this) week" but nor response yet. Looks like he can filter through the questions before posting and answering them on the live chat.

Yeah he or the mod chooses which questions to answer - to filter out rubbish and offensive stuff - I have asked a couple of times two - avoiding or doesn't have an update?

Wow, insightful...

To be fair, he's said he has signed, rather than is in talks, which is still new news, and that there are more to come, which is confirmation. What more do you want in two short sentences from a web chat? I suppose you want him to go on about how players like him 'MAKE' the team play football. That's real insight.

I just directly quoted from the webchat, he was no more specific then that. I read it as being Hammond has signed and more players will follow.

Not a direct quote exactly - actual quote is

"Gary Jacob: Dean Hammond has signed .. the club's advisors claim more to come"

Which I agree suggests he has heard from people at SFC that more players are to come. Transfer window has been extended hasn't it?

Confirmation, or guessing. This time last week he was quite specific that there were two big signings to come.

He's only going on what AP has said on record ie that he hopes to have one or maybe two more in for the Brentford game. Hardly insightful journalism!

Given that the OS had already announced we were in advanced talks, I would put money on him not actually knowing any more than we already knew, hence my comment, and me personally not thinking there was any 'new' news in what he said.

I'll assume the last two sentances are sarcasm given my posts elsewere, but just in case... no, obviously I didn't expect him to talk about that, because it was a transfer webchat, not a 'how do you think this signing will affect the team, and how they'll play' webchat.

I am not claiming this guy knows everything but he is in constant talks with football agents and reps at clubs so I think he may be a little more ITK than many of the people on here.

No, he really isn't.

Just a few for you to peruse. There have been similar to that about 20 odd times these holidays, he is seen as a joke by anyone who knows anything about football.

Sorry but that just isn't true - he is respected and got great contacts - I know various football journos who would disagree with you.

Anyway I didn't post what he said as gospel, neither does he say those things as gospel but simply reporting what he is hearing from the football agents he knows personally - yes it is mainly mere gossip and will undoubtedly be at times unfounded etc. but I would stake it is fairly more educated gossip than most of the gossip that appears here.

Maybe, but to be honest we get some cracking gossip on here, and Shaun Custis, Darren Lewis etc are just chancers to me.

Fair dos - dont think the stuff on here is bad just think that a fairly well-respected journalist with great contacts who lets be honest is pretty prolific in transfer predictions hasn't got a bad % rate and should prob be listened too and not totally disregarded.

Anyways dont need him to say we clearly need to sign some defenders sharpish!!
