Smirking_Saint Posted 15 August, 2009 Share Posted 15 August, 2009 Ok, number one, Lambert and Rasiak, they are one and the same, the boys are both there, lazy players that score goals if provided, nothing more, same as beattie, they need a player that works hard around them, Lambert will not benefit from somone like rasiak, he needs an Ormarod, my suggestion would be a match fit lallana, if he chases down and hounds defenders, Lambert is a goalscorer, but make no mistake, he is lazy. Spiderman, quality player, one i would keep in the first team, but needs someone mobile backing him up, Wotton is, as everyone is aware of, Sh*te, slow and cannot pick a pass, either pick Gillet or replace him. James is ok, defensively he is solid but is not quick enough nor creative enough, i would like to see a quick winger here, or lallana if a quick striker is forthcoming. LM, Lallana is not the man, Mills or Holmes if fit, will give width and pace, wide men should not suck in as it restricts room for the CM's, this is what happens with adam. Perry i feel as old as he is, will still be a class act in this division, unfortunataly, as solid and as much of a big c*nt thomas is i feel he does not use it to be immposing enough, he does not win enough headers, nor dominate play, and is very suspect on the floor. This of course IMO, i just wished to put it in black and white to see who agreed. Feel free to comment

Don't get me wrong, he is a box striker and of course watching his youtube vids a man that scores many chances, i just believe he needs a player next to him that works hard creating chances for rickie. Gorgiesaint Posted 16 August, 2009 Share Posted 16 August, 2009 As for saying Beattie was also lazy well sorry that's wrong. He might have had a poor first touch but lazy - never! er yes Beattie. There were two sides to Beattie - pre his England call up, he did work hard & put his shift in (after all thats what got him the call up). Post the England call up - he was incrediably lazy - I can remember one game where he came out in the 2nd half and whilst waiting to kick off a burger box blew across in front of him. I think he must have been a bit peckish cos that going after that was the fastest he moved all afternoon!!!
Professor Posted 16 August, 2009 Share Posted 16 August, 2009 Of the 11 playing against Huddersfield, IMHO Perry and Wotton are no longer first choice standard, but James and Thompson, who covered one midfield slot between them are both still reserve standard. For me, the minimum need is the CB that Pardew is looking for, plus TWO quality players in midfield. Assuming either or both Rasiak and Saga go, then at least one more striker needed. Its a lot for the club to do in two weeks, but Pardew must already be looking at Charlton on plus 6 points and feeling just a bit concerned. Charlie Wayman Posted 16 August, 2009 Share Posted 16 August, 2009 The reality is that 4 of the back 5 are way past their sell-by date and are embarrassingly slow and inflexible and dull witted even for this league and as for Harding... (expletives deleted!). Why do you all think he was free and nobody else wanted him? Bargain? Give me a break, he's just a journeyman and a poor one for that. Smirking_Saint Posted 16 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 16 August, 2009 It was a "beer goggles" OP and he hasn't seen your replies because that hangover is a humdinger! :smt107:drinkers::vom: TBH, reading through what i wrote, i disagree with myself a little i used the wrong wording really, Lazy was not right to describe Lambert, Beattie ?? Yes, i feel at times he was a little lazy, and Rasiak, definately lazy. My point being is that they are all players that will get goals if provided, and need a player that will work hard chasing players down, and bring a more technical side of the game. Rasiak and Lambert is really a like for like partnership, i would imagine more often then not they would get in each others ways. I for one would much rather have seen Lallana or paterson playing around them. I don't think anyone can argue that Beat's would not have got anywhere near as many goals if it was not for Ormarod's obvious graft. The rest of my OP i do agree with, Thomas is just not dominant enough for a man of his size, although at this level i feel he is ok. Lallana drifting in from the left can be a handful but packs the midfield too much, restricting room for morgan, Wotton is just not at the race's, i think it is time for Gillett to get another chance, and James shows a lot of graft however is not quick enough, or creative enough for me on the flanks. Could james dajfu in the middle ?? Don't know, we will see how it all pans out anyways. This is only my opinion, and at the time i agree it was a slightly blinkered one :smt047

Saint 76er Posted 16 August, 2009 Share Posted 16 August, 2009 One important change to team structure could be staring us in the face. By general agreement Wotton should be trashed and Perry is a bit too small and aging for CB in this league. However, once the long promised new commanding CB arrives, why not play Perry as the holding MF sitting in front of the back four? He would be the ideal size and experience for this role and could surely protect the B4 better than anyone else we've got. After all he's only lasted this long at CB because he reads the play so well and can launch into saving tackles when his legs can't keep up... Yes yes,but he surely calls the tactics and we ARE TOO NARROW and I'm pretty sure I've never seen a Saints team play so many long balls to no one. This strategy has been employed by his new boys as well the ones that were already here so we must assume it's the managers instructions and not just the fault of suspect players already in place. Team selection does however have a bearing and that is suspect too. Yes we need new players but hell the manager needs to be very sharp with his strategies or we're knackered anyway!! Well said, football management is not an easy job, and ultimately there is only so much to be gained from trying to improve the players you have, so all that hard work doesn't even guarantee success. Bringing in new people isn't easy either, and we all know of past experiences here and elsewhere, where a signing has proved to be a disapointment, if not a disaster. AP is definitely earning his money.

I would go as far to say as he great at defending from the front, which helped out defence out so much... he was a great player for us who reached his best in a great era.. He was a very good player for us, in times however he could be a bit lazy, not an aweful lot but was susceptable to it. As i said earlier, the use of the word lazy was more of a drunken blinkered moment TBH, and as i said, he got so much credance as BO did alot of hard work in the background contributing to Beatties output as a whole. He has not been so prolific since, and i know Everton played him the wrong way but that is that. It shows how much of a goalscorer only player he was when playing on his own up front for Everton, he just has not got alot to his game. The same as Lambert and Rasiak, both good proven goalscorers however they do not contribute each other. That is my opinion anyways. Lambert is always going to score, and looks a legend in the making, but i feel we will get more out of the team if he was paired with a smaller, faster hounding striker. Completely agree with this much. (Although Lambert is not lazy, just a bit slow...) I want Pato up front with Lambert until we can buy a pacy striker to compliment him better. A new centre back, but to be fair to AP he knows we need one and is on the case so all will be good shortly. and a right-sided wide player to get some good service in for Lambert, also freeing up James for centre midfield (his natural position btw) and Lallana to play off the two strikers (also his natural position) I honestly think Joseph Mills can definately do a job for us on the left. Anyone that watched him play in pre-season will agree that not only did he look great going forward, delivering some brilliant crosses, but also got back well to defend. I don't think there is any need to worry though, Alan Pardew has everything under control. For the first time in ages, we have a right back playing right back and a left back playing left back. That at least is progress
Bridge Posted 16 August, 2009 Share Posted 16 August, 2009 I haven't seen Wotton put in a good game for the saints at all. He can not pass a ball for toffee. He needs to be farmed out to another club. ASAP I agree and like the idea of Perry as a holding MF sitting in front of the back four. His timing and reading of the game is good. I would keep Thomas as a spare CB and get in two new CB's big, strong, fast and young. I am sure AP knows who he wants for CB position and I have and lot of faith in him to get things right. The guy clearly is doing the right things so far. Football supports are so impatient and want things to happen over night it was only a few weeks ago that the club could have folded. It takes time to build a team. One's that win anyway..........
