I think another relegation scrap.....

At the end of the season would be enough to finish quite a few fans off

why do we have to be generally shyt at what ever level we are at. For the last 20 years or so we have been turd bar a few blips. For once, why can't we take a league by the scruff of te neck.

Today wad so depressing. A team so slow and narrow it was painfull.

Brentford were awful, the ref was awful, saints were awful.

Footall is supposed to be entertainment an I fear a relegation fight at the end of this season will ne enough for a lot of fans

we are so shocking it was quite funny...

I still can't decide what was worse...

Brentford or the fact we could not beat them at home

Charlton are doing well ATM. With a lot going on behind te scenes and no money what so ever.

Why are we imcapable to even remotely look like having a decent start?

Ever?

Because we keep chopping and changing

It is not surprising in the last seventy os so matches the team has had

Burley

Gorman/Dodd

Pearson

JP

Wotte

Pardew in charge plus other coaches

We dont seem to be in a better situation than would have been the case if Wotte had been in charge

Tbh I have only been entertained a couple of times since we were relegated from the prem.

I don't subscribe to the sh1te about changing managers, there are only a handful of clubs that have in place long term managers, the rest of the league are just like us,always chopping and changing.

Spurs have had numerous managers in the last few years and they seem to be doing ok,they are still in the prem and attracting decent players something which we failed to do.

Our downfall was a reluctance to spend money on decent players largely because of a rigid pay structure,IMO we were over cautious with the pennies.

How did we end up in Administration?

Did Charlton bring in the coaching Dutch revolution method that practically destroyed the confidence and ability of its players?

If you want proof look at yesterday who were the worst performers?

Funny that all the good players yesterday were players that AP has bought in...he has had how many weeks to sort out this mess?

Charlton had Parkinson in charge for half of last season plus a full pre-season.

Judge AP and this team in 2 months.

Good god the manic depressive harbingers of doom are out in force.

Yesterday we were the better team and we basically made one mistake at the back all match from which they scored. This in itself is a positive.

There's work to be done yet and we will improve.

Stop ****ing moaning.:)

I'm talking about our premiership days when the rot started, the reluctance to spend to compete and ignore signing players that came with high wages.......the problem with this is that if you want the best players you have to pay good money.

To this day Rory delap remains our costliest player at £4m.....says it all really.

I said at the start there was no chance of promotion this season, not only because of the -10 but because we've got to build a team from scratch.

Last season we were relegated easily, it wasn't even close. Since then we've lost our top scorer, best midfielder and best defender. Pardew still needs 3 or 4 players AND time to get the team playing how he wants - Pinnacle robbed us of that.

Even without the -10 we would be in the relegation zone,2 points from 12 is rubbish in anybodys book.

Ok I thought the millwall game was a fair result,Swindon could have been avoided and I would of expected at least 1 point if not 3 and I was expecting 3 points yesterday but as it turned out we were lucky to get the draw, the only player yesterday who had any fight in him was saga, and he's probably off,Harding did well and was my motm but the rest.....not good enough.

This is not unrealistic expectation,it might be a bit of a moan :-) but I think it's a fair assesment.

The players we have are all capable of winning games, but most are reluctant to get hurt.....we will be seen as pushovers by the rest of the league, easily bullied into submission.

The -10 is a big stumbling block but the biggest stumbling block to overcome is the players, they have to learn how to beat themselves before they can beat the opposition .

I was talking with a mate the other day abuot us being fairly rubbish whatever division we're in.

Does anyone have some sort of super league table of the past 20 years or so of all the teams who have played in the football league. I'd hedge my bets that we have gained less points than anybody else (probably by some distance).

But I don't think pure points is a fair way to judge how "rubbish" we are, after all it's pretty tough playing against United, Liverpool, Arsenal et al in the top flight.

I did an analysis of Leauge position over the last 10, 20, 30 & 40 years a while back as someone had descrbed us as cannon fodder.

Here's the results:

Starting from the 2004 season (i.e. the one before we got relegated) and going backwards our average league position has been:

10 years to 1995 = 13th

20 years to 1985 = 13th

30 years to 1975 = 14th

40 years to 1965 = 15th

I don't think anyone has ever claimed us to be up there with the big boys regularly fighting for trophies, but over the last 40 years to be 15th out of 92 in the footballing pyramid is a pretty good record.

Going back 40 years to 1965 would probably cover the vast majority of those who come on this board, but even going back to late 1950's, we're probably still in the top 20.

A fair summary, IMHO.

Whilst I thought that yesterday was grim 'entertainment', it was no more than I expected prior to the game. We need to give AP time to kick ass (and there is some on there yesterday that needed kicking)

Mid table this year and then up next.

Agreed.

We will probably bring in 2 or 3 new players this week - whether loans or transfers.

By September, we will be an almost totally different team to last season. New CB, RB and LB (plus Thomas who didn't figure last year), two new midfielders (and probably one or two more to come), new striker (and one more to come).

Our starting XI will be unrecognisable.

If this were to be true, results would improve and the negativity amongst the fans would soon fade, but what is the likelihood? Last week, AP talked about bringing in 2 or 3 players, and kept his word by signing Hammond plus the 2 loans. This week he is saying nothing about any more new faces. Instead he is talking about getting some of the current players to play better. I hope I'm wrong, but we may have had all the new faces we are getting this side of the window.
