Raven on the wing Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 Sad reality of being in this outpost of football in L1 that we see little other than the goals from our games. From Saturdays coverage, it looked that both pens hit raised arms in the box, with the Stockport guy waving presumably to his missus in the stand ! It certainly seemed that Saga's goal definitely was not offside.

I was thinking at the time that it was a pity that we couldn't get a proper view of it ! Still p1ssed off that we blew it though !

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 I think the way the BBC are scheduling their League coverage is appalling - for many of us 'early risers' the programme starts wayyyyy too late at night - I know many viewers have the equipment to record it or watch on-line but to be frank I can't be bothered . Personally I preferred ITV's Sunday AM programme .

Legod Third Coming Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 One thing: can the beeb stop reading out texts and emails from people who clearly know feck all about football. There are enough of us on here, without our boll0x opinions being given prime time! Just show the football and if you have to, let Claridge talk about it, but make it quick. benjii Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 Just watched the highlights. Firstly, Saga's goal didn't look offside (although granted, the angle was not ideal). Secondly, both penalties looked like fair decisions. Thirdly, the ref was ****ting himself at the end of the match. Shame they didn't show the one-on-one which the ref pulled back. benjii Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 How is it appaling scheduling? They have to cover about 30 matches, most of which only a few thousand people give a flying **** about. It is a programme which absolutely cannot be shown "prime time". The material parts are all available online without having to sit through Barnsley v Blackpool or some other such ****e. That's pretty shocking really. One thing I don't like which someone else mentioned is that stupid bird reading out mundane and half-witted comments. Maniche is a bland and unengaging host. Steve Claridge is decent on the radio but looks like a plum on the telly. By the way, I only watched the first one and haven't bothered since so it might be better now. How many digital channels do the BBC have now - 4 is it ? most showing endless repeats . I don't accept the current BBC Football League broadcast arrangements are all they could be or even acceptable . If they don't want to broadcast a proper programme at a reasonable time then they shouldn't have bidded for the rights in the first place . A lot of the younger people on here have to realise that as you get older your ability to 'burn the midnight oil' will inevitably decrease - believe it or not it'll happen to you one day too . So watch it on Iplayer or pick and choose your highlights on the website (which are often more comprehensive anyway?) I appreciate that if you really want to watch the entire programme as a composite work then the timing is not great but I doubt there are many people in the country who do want to watch the whole thing. CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 1) Iplayer shows the show whenever you want for 7 days after the Saturday night show.. But after Saturday night is by definition not on Saturday night is it ? that's the point . I prefer whenever possible to watch a football match without knowing the outcome - the further removed from the action the broadcast becomes the harder this gets . The simple truth that not everyone in British society can afford a broadband connection or even a computer should hardly need repeating . 2) You can record it. Yes I could but I used to watch the 'Championship' programme on Sunday mornings anyway so how have the BBC improved anything exactly ? 3) BBC website keeps all the goals on it from Monday onwards. We've been able to watch Saturdays Goals on Mondays local news since the 1970's at least , excuse me if I'm not that impressed . 4) Sky Sports News on a Freeview box shows all the goals every hour. Good for them but that's not even close to being a proper highlights programme is it ? What more do you want? I'll tell you exactly what I want so that you and I are absolutely clear on the subject . I would like to watch a proper highlights programme broadcast at a reasonable time on a Saturday night - as I'm paying for my share of BBC's Football League coverage via the licence fee I don't see why I should not be entitled to an opinion on the subject nor do I see why you Sir should take umbrage at such a relatively simple (and easily accommodated) request . It remains my opinion that the current arrangements are certainly no better than ITV's coverage and quite possibly worse . You may well be satisfied with the BBC's coverage - good for you - I was hoping for something better .

Now people are throwing them away because they have something better. You could switch yours on and record the programme too, and then watch it Sunday morning. Or you could watch it on iPlayer. On the contrary I find this post quite pointless . The point in question is not that the appalling scheduled BBC programme is worse than its ITV predecessor (although it may well be) nor is it that I can't employ a TV recorder (I can thanks) - the issue is that today's coverage is no advance over what went before . The poor Football League coverage in the past at least had the considerable advantage of coming at no cost to its audience , the same consolation cannot be said of a licence fee funded BBC service . Like Oliver in 'Oliver Twist' I want more Sir .

Yes, it all goes to the BBC, but you won't get ITV either, if you don't pay. As far as the general public are concerned, they come together as a package, or not at all. At least the whole 1 hr and 15 mins are the programme itself, and not adverts included. Why not just go to the BBC sport website for Southampton and play back the sugment of the programme that pertains to Saints..? That way you don't record, but you watch. And only Saints too. Saint Bones Posted 1 September, 2009 Share Posted 1 September, 2009 It sure is a blow of us OS supporters. Must renew my Saints Tv - or Player ( whatever it's called ) With the premier we'd get the hour long highlights show and he occasional live game. CCC we got a highlights package and the very occassional game on TV. Nowadays.... very little coverage. The league show covers CCC and thne a quick 10-15 minutes of the weeks League 1. So keep those match reports coming guys and girls....
