spyinthesky Posted 24 September, 2009 Share Posted 24 September, 2009 Just watched a programme on Stadium disasters and it featured the new stadium being built in Valencia 73,000 capacity. Central city location How are they financing this? What about congestion? Any one have any info. Separately notice the Nou Camp is increasing capacity to 110,000!! oxfordshire_saint Posted 24 September, 2009 Share Posted 24 September, 2009 Valencia are buggered. They started construction on the Nuevo Mestalla without having sold the land where the current Mestalla is situated, then the arse fell out of the property market. The last I heard, the workers on the new stadium had downed tools and Valencia were doing anything for cash, including making their players available to hire for private functions! Seem to have started the season ok though, I don't know how the hell they managed to keep Villa, Silva and Mata.

oxfordshire_saint Posted 24 September, 2009 Share Posted 24 September, 2009 Simples: by prostituting all the other players But their debt was around 900M euros I think, I'm pretty sure if they managed to get David Villa to appear at 100 weddings over the summer it wouldn't come close to paying it off! Scudamore Posted 25 September, 2009 Share Posted 25 September, 2009 Racist.... Singling out the Spanish like that Don't be a gimp Delldays. I reserve the right to mock other nationalities based on their national stereotypes and can take it on the chin back. As i did when called a "girre" when visiting my girlfriend's Spanish father last month. Leaning on stereotypes and having a laugh at them does most certainly not make me a racist and to suggest so is a little dumb. But then i'm sure you knew that anyway. You're just being argumentative as per usual. You'll also not be surprised to hear that i have and will use again the expression "cheese eating surrender monkeys" when refering to the French. Once again this does not mean that i harbour a grudge against the French for any conflicts we may have had with them over the last thousand years or indeed that i inherently hate all french people for no other reason than being french. In fact i take the french like i take all people...on merit. Some are d:cks. Some are not. On the subject of Spanish builders however i would just like to say that they started building La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona in 1882... God knows why i just bothered typing that out

fish fingers Posted 25 September, 2009 Share Posted 25 September, 2009 They we're financing it from the sale of the old ground but becuase that fell through and they had started building the new one they ended up with one and a half stadiums and a massive debt. The club has been a shambles for a few years with various owners and were very close to folding at the end of last summer. Giving Ronald Koeman the managers job cost them millions last season as he bought in some absolute dross to the squad and dropped the likes of Albelda (which ended with him taking the club to court). Sacking Koeman cost millions and they were stuck with the rubbish he bought.
